Suspect Swine Flu in Sarawak

KUCHING: A 31-year-old man who was in the United Statesof America just last week was last night admitted to the isolation wardat the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) specially set up in readiness forthe A(H1N1) pandemic.

It was learnt that the man from Muara Tuang had sought treatment ata private hospital yesterday evening after complaining of a fever, sorethroat, cough, and shortness of breath.
Upon examining the man and learning of his trip to the USA fromApril 24 until Labour Day, the private hospital informed the SGH atabout 8.15pm.
At 9.20pm, an ambulance arrived with two personnel wearing protective equipment from head to toe.

The man was immediately transported to the SGH and admitted to theisolation ward which is off limits to the public. Deputy Chief MinisterDatuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan said the man was admitted at SGHfor test and he was confident that the man had not contracted the virus.
“When people go to the affected countries and develop signs offever, cough, flu, they will be referred to the SGH for further tests.I believe that the results for this case will be negative but thegovernment must be very cautious.

“There is no reason to panic. If there is a real case, I can assureyou that the government will inform the public immediately,” he said,adding that it was not unusual for people to fall sick after visiting aforeign country due to the change of climate.

There is so far no cases of A(HINI) virus in Sarawak or Malaysia as a whole.

The virus regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs and thereis growing concern that a mutated virus is spreading to humans.

The epicentre of the deadly flu is Mexico where there have been 16 confirmed deaths so far.
The flu has spread to the United States with 143 cases confirmed and one fatality recorded as of Sunday.

Other countries which had confirmed infections are Canada, Britain,Spain, Germany, New Zealand, Israel, Costa Rica, France, Austria,Denmark, Hong Kong, Netherlands, South Korea and Switzerland.

這今天已經證實非A型流感了.
