CHELSEA CAPTAIN JOHN TERRY FACES NEW UEFA BAN

CHELSEA skipper John Terry has been given an extra two-match ban for his Champions League semi- final foul on Alexis Sanchez.

Terry missed the final against Bayern Munich after being sent off in the second leg in Barcelona.

UEFA’s disciplinary panel yesterday found him guilty of violent conduct for the knee on Sanchez.

They added two matches to the automatic one-match ban the centre-back has already served.

Terry, 31, will miss the Super Cup game against Atletico Madrid and the opening group game in the Champions League.

Daniel Sturridge: I don't know if I’ll be at Chelsea next season
Striker uncertain over Chelsea future as club hope to build team around Torres after Drogba’s exit

Daniel Sturridge is not sure whether he will still be a Chelsea player at the start of next season. The striker, who signed from Manchester City for £6.5million in 2009, has enjoyed his best campaign at Stamford Bridge after establishing himself in the first team.
Even though Sturridge was played out of position on the right wing, he scored 13 goals for the club and ended up with an FA Cup and Champions League winners’ medal, despite being an unused substitute in both finals.
The 22-year-old, who won his first England cap when selected to face Sweden in November, has two years remaining on his contract but there has been speculation linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Sturridge has made no secret of his desire to play as a centre-forward and although Didier Drogba has confirmed his departure after eight years at Stamford Bridge, there are no guarantees he will get his wish next term either as the club hope to build the team around £50m forward Fernando Torres.
It has been suggested that Chelsea may be prepared to listen to offers for him and while Sturridge is not looking for a transfer away from the club, he cannot guarantee that he will be at Stamford Bridge next term either.
When asked if he could silence the whispers about his future by saying categorically he will be at Chelsea come August, he told Standard Sport: “You never know what is going to happen in the future.
“Everyone is going to evaluate the season that they’ve had, the club will certainly evaluate players and I will certainly evaluate my situation.
“I have achieved so much with Chelsea this season and I have a great feeling inside. I hope to be able to achieve more things next season.”
When pressed if he would really want to leave the European champions, he added: “Regardless of what happens it has been a great season and I hope it continues for another year and we can win some more trophies.
“I have played my part this season, I probably played in half the Champions League games. It is a season that will live in the memory of everyone and we thoroughly deserved everything we got.
“Obviously I see myself as a centre-forward and hopefully next season I will be able to achieve that feat because I don’t see myself playing on the wing.
“I’m delighted with my first full season at Chelsea. The first two years were very difficult for me but this season I have had to play out of position and it has been a real learning curve for me to play as a winger.
“I hope things work out well for me and Chelsea will be working hard to make sure that we emulate what we did this season and that would be great.”
Standard Sport revealed earlier in the campaign that Chelsea were thinking about extending his deal but they appear to be in no rush to secure his long-term future.
When asked if he was aware if any contract talks were scheduled to take place, Sturridge said: “No. I am happy to have won the Champions League and FA Cup at Chelsea and I will just go from there.”
Whatever happens regarding Chelsea, Sturridge is looking forward to taking part in the Olympics this summer for Great Britain.
At the moment he is only on stand-by to be part of the England squad for Euro 2012 but he is just as excited about playing in the Olympics if selected by his former Manchester City coach Stuart Pearce, who is in charge of the GB side.
He said: “If I get to go to Euro 2012, it will be fantastic. If I don’t, I’m sure the Olympics will be available and I will be able to play in that. I’m on the list and it would be great to be involved. I have just been told that I have made the cut for the next stage and then Stuart Pearce will whittle his squad down to 18 players. I’m just waiting for him to choose his squad, which will be named in mid-July.
“It would definitely compensate for not playing in the Euro Finals with the seniors. On home territory, the first GB football team and to be among great players, legends [David Beckham and Ryan Giggs are in contention], it will be fantastic for me.
“If I’m picked to compete at the Games, produce the goods on home territory and take home the gold medal, it would be amazing.
“I have to keep myself relatively fit throughout the summer. The Olympic Games will start in late July but I will be in good shape. I won’t let myself go during the break. I never do, so I’m going to enjoy it.”
