PAMC  Updates 30.11.2007

Dear Brothers & Sisters in the Dhamma

Following our last briefing on 20 October 2007, we are happy to update you on the recent
developments of Pa-Auk Meditation Centre ("PAMC").

1) Spiritual Patron
We are most honoured that Venerable Pa-Auk Sayadaw has consented to be the
Spiritual Patron of PAMC. With this appointment, we certainly hope to see the
Sayadaw more often in Singapore.

2) Advisor to PAMC
Dr Ang Beng Choo has very graciously accepted our invitation to be the Adviser
to the lay committee of PAMC. She has already given some good advice, thank
you, Dr ABC !

3) Committee
Sis Ng Lay Hoon has been appointed the Assistant Secretary, welcome onboard !
Bro Raymond Chia and Remus Lee have decided to step down from the
Committee because of work commitments; however the indications are that they
would continue to contribute, to the extent they could, in the relevant
subcommittees.

4) Auditor
We welcome the contribution of Bro Chiu Kin Yuen, who has agreed to be the
Honorary Auditor.

5) Background on PAMC
In response to enquiries on the establishment of PAMC, we thought it would be
helpful to set out the purpose of establishing PAMC which is dedicated to the
Sangha, our mission and our aspiration to build a meditation retreat centre
conducive for long term practice by monastics and lay meditators, both male and
female. Kindly refer to attached file on same.

6) Centre Premises
PAMC has moved in to : 65 Lucky Gardens Singapore 467699 on 11 November
2007.

7) Visitors & Recent Events
We moved in just in time to receive our first visitors, Ven U Agganna and Ven U
Pannyananda - the latter would be familiar, as doctor, to those who have been to
Pa-Auk Forest Monastery, Mawlamyine..

Ven U Agganna & Ven U Pannyananda stayed at the Centre for just over a week,
during which time we had 2 days of day-retreat over the weekends 17 & 18
November. Dhamma talks were given by Ven Nyanadassana (the Greek
Mahathera), and by Ven U Agganna. A lunch dana was jointly held with
devotees of VMC on Sat 17 November when Ven Nyanadassana and Ven
Visuddhacara were invited to join Ven U Agganna and Ven U Pannyananda at the
Centre.

The group has returned from a fulfilling, if somewhat tiring, 10-day trip to Sri
Lanka. We were very fortunate to be able to meet with and pay respects to Ven
Pa-Auk Sayadaw on several occasions. The Sayadaw is enjoying good health, and
has slim down noticeably, the result of regular exercise and meditation! He took a
keen interest in the developments and progress of the Singapore Centre, and
offered us invaluable advice and guidance.

We also met and paid respects to the Mahathera, Ven Ariyadhamma, in the
company of Ven Ariyananda, the Abbot of Na Uyana. They were equally keen on
the developments of the Singapore Centre and offered blessings, guidance and
chanted parittas for the smooth progress and realization of our aspiration to build
a meditation retreat centre in Singapore. The group also took part in the Kathina
and make offerings of requisites to the Sangha at Na Uyana. Acknowledgement of
the dana collected and forwarded to Na Uyana will be made separately to the
donors concerned.

We are expecting the arrival of Ven U Ukkansa, Kammatthanacariya and
authorized Assistant Meditation Teacher from Pa-Auk Forest Monastery soon. He
is expected to reside at Lucky Gardens, and will be teaching meditation and
giving Dhamma talks. Details of the programme will be announced soon.


8) 2008 Programme
Ven U Mahinda will be conducting a 10-day Abhidhamma course, to be followed
by a 10-day meditation retreat in February-March 2008.

9) Pa-Auk Dhamma Books
PAMC will undertake the publishing of Dhamma books by the Sayadaw, Pa-Auk
bhikkhus and other Dhamma books approved by Pa-Auk.
On the long awaited publishing of the new book, Workings of Kamma, by Ven
Pa-Auk Sayadaw, we are hopeful that the printing of the book could be finalized
and final approval received from Pa-Auk for its release, before too long. Our
apologies that it took some time, but one would appreciate the tremendous
amount of checking and proofing that has gone into publishing a heavyweight title
such as this.
PAMC will be publishing soon 3 other titles namely, Knowing & Seeing (Rev Ed
II) and a small booklet on Anapanassati, both authored by the Sayadaw, and the
third book - Samanera Training Precepts (in Chinese), by Ven U Mahinda.
If you wish to offer a free-will donation towards the costs of printing of Pa-Auk
Dhamma books, please fill in the attached Donation Slip and remit together with
your donation.

10) Membership Enrolment
If you or your friends would like to be informed of our programmes and
participate in our activities, you may wish to sign up as a member by filling in the
attached Membership Form and submit together with the payment of the entrance
fee.

Should you wish to make a free-will donation in support of PAMC and its
activities, please fill in the attached Donation Slip and submit it together with
your donation.

感恩愿无忧贤友发心翻译，自己正打算以有限公司的英语做翻译呢，谢了贤友 ，Sàdhu!Sàdhu!Sàdhu!

在学已经报名参加马兴德尊者在2月20号的阿毗达摩班，不过由于帕奥禅师与众尊者的前来，新加坡那边缺乏人手，所以因缘具足的话，在学将提早于12号前往新加坡，并在那里住一段日子做kappiya或义工等等护持之类的工作。真的很欢喜能够有机会亲近善知识与德高望重的尊者们 ，能够在这世间无上的福田耕耘以累积菩提资粮与巴拉密。愿在这段时期所累积的功德能与论坛的贤友们分享，请随喜功德吧！愿您们也能够得到这份功德。Sàdhu!Sàdhu!Sàdhu!

吉祥尊者（Ven.U Mangala）是帕奥禅师授权的唯一大马籍禅修业处指导老师，是可遇不可求的好禅修导师，目前正在积极的教导那些真正有心禅修、修心的禅修者。此外，尊者也积极在栽培那些愿意把自己的青春和生命奉献给佛法的新出家众。虽然尊者已经早就完成整个帕奥学程，但尊者依然很想到雪山再继续闭关自修，以让自己更有能力去帮助有缘的众生。不过为了正法久住，为了显扬佛陀教导的佛法，为了报答恩师——帕奥禅师，慈悲的尊者还是要担起教禅和栽培僧伽的重任（不过这应该只是几年的时间，因缘具足的话，尊者一定会再去雪山闭关）。现在尊者在新加坡的双林寺，为帕奥禅修营担任帕奥禅师的教禅助理，禅修营期间也有佛法讲座。以下是吉祥尊者开示佛法的日期：

如果我没有记错，Bhante Mangala在完成整个帕奥学程前，也完成了马哈西的学程。

是的贤友，的确听过尊者亲口说之前是修马哈希禅法。目前很法喜的在尊者身边做净人服务、做禅修报告的旁听，这样不断有机会品尝尊者对禅修者的指导、佛法开示、解惑释疑的甘露法水，滋长心田无数的菩提种子，清凉了慧命。

愿在这里所作的布施、持八戒、禅修、皈依三宝、礼敬三宝、服务僧团、随喜功德、分享功德、分享佛法、听闻佛法、正直己见的功德，与所有的贤友们分享，愿您们都能随喜这些善业的功德而获得长远的利益。

与大家分享一些帕奥禅师与僧团在新加坡的记事。


玛欣德尊者在三月份的阿毗达摩课，反应很良好，来上课的主要以北传学佛背景的学佛者为居多，可见阿毗达摩已经开始受到重视，无论是南北传承也好，无论是佛教徒也好，非佛教徒也好，越来越多学者开始研究阿毗达摩来让自己更了解这世间以及身心的运作。






玛欣德尊者在3月份于Wat Palelai指导禅修，许多热爱正法的人在精进禅修以自己体征指路者所体验过的法。




帕奥禅师时常来新加坡静养，话虽然是这样说，但禅师一到新加坡几乎都很忙，忙于应付许多慕名前来拜访一代大禅师的国内外信众。由于禅师太慈悲了，即使很累，禅师也很少拒绝来者。现在新加坡几乎成为禅师的转去其他国家的主要枢纽，除了到国外教禅或渡雨安居，禅师通常会住在新加坡一些日子以调养身子，很少回去缅甸，现在即使到缅甸帕奥禅林反而不容易见到禅师了。





在2008年的卫塞节时，帕奥禅师正在传授出家女众十戒。由于难得禅师慈悲亲自传授十戒，一些十戒尼依然非常珍惜着她们的十戒尼戒体。





帕奥禅师与僧众们在精进禅修，为禅修者们立下好榜样。




能在禅师的身边禅修，能量应该会更有所不同吧！




这里的禅修者们多少都会沾到从禅师身上散发出来的能量磁场和慈心。





为期三个星期的2008年度帕奥禅修营圆满的在新加坡双林寺举行，许多禅修者都能够获得良好的禅修进展，法喜充满。





信众在热心的供养僧团。禅师一向来是比较习惯吃缅甸菜，许多虔诚的缅甸人更把握难得的机会煮了许多拿手的缅甸菜肴供养禅师。托禅师的福报，我们这些在禅师身边服务的净人们当然也少不了口福。




从帕奥禅林培育出来的“重量级”禅修业处指导老师，差不多要到齐了。能够有这样的机会供养到那么殊胜的福田——以佛陀为首的帕奥僧团，这个功德是难以衡量的，愿大家都能随喜这些善人们的功德。

禅修者在向禅师作禅修报告，禅师充满着耐心与慈心为禅修者传授禅法。即使没有什么好禅修报告、即使禅修没有什么进展，也只是前来向禅师顶一个礼也能够累积很强的善业，这些善业都是未来成就止观禅的助缘。

「How long can you concentrate on your breath?」（你能专注在呼吸有多久？）

这是帕奥禅师出名的招牌，也是所有禅修指示中最好的指示，禅师身边的得力助理老师几乎都是被这道指示栽培出来的。但并不是所有的禅修者都有这种功德承担这道禅修指示，尤其是城市型的禅修者。





禅修营的周末，禅师会为当地的缅甸人开示佛法。禅师能够现身在新加坡，许多离乡背井的缅甸人感到特别的亲切，难得有来自自己故乡的国际大禅师在异乡，他们当然不会错过难得的因缘出席聆听开示。




帕奥禅林的长老们也非常恭敬的听法。




在新加坡居住的缅甸人也不少，他们依然喜欢穿着缅甸传统的服装、沙龙（缅甸语称long-gi）。他们几乎都会讲英语，也有一部分的缅甸人会说华语的。假期时他们时常带着亲切和蔼的笑容，结伴的前来寺院作供养或提供服务。





除了禅师，吉祥尊者也在禅堂为禅修者指导禅修，开示佛法。中文和英文皆流利的吉祥尊者一手包办的双语佛法开示，让任何中英教育背景的学佛者都能沾到殊胜的法益。原本想自己独自在喜马来雅雪山自修的吉祥尊者，也因为想报禅师的恩惠而出来帮禅师指导禅修。不过吉祥尊者教禅的日子已经不多了，许多出家众和禅修者趁着尊者还在教时把握机会亲近尊者学法禅修。





这里不知是全新加坡最好最丰富的“自助餐”呢？





曾经在圣法大长老（Mahathera Nauyane Ariyadhamma ）身边服务过的净人无不对大长老散播的慈悲、亲切和威德所摄受。不愧为斯里兰卡名声盛传、德高望重的大长老。





两位缅甸籍Sayalay很会煮禅师喜欢的缅甸菜，和蔼可亲的她们天还未亮就必须赶来这里为禅师准备早餐，随喜她们的功德。





来自新马的信众们当然把握难得的机会好好供养僧团一番，屋子顿时庭门若市起来。





即使只是透过看着相片，若一个人的心对这僧团生起信心、恭敬、欢喜、随喜之心，就已经能够在他的心流里刻下无数善业的痕迹了，更何况能亲自前来亲近、顶礼、合掌、布施、服务、听法.......






帕奥禅师和来自斯里兰卡龙树林僧院（Na Uyana Aranya Senasanaya ）的圣法大长老（Mahathera Nauyane Ariyadhamma ）和圣喜尊者（Ven.Ariyananda)非常难得的能够一起出现在新加坡，真是人天欢喜的事，也是新加坡人的福气，这种场合真的非常少见的。





虽然不是在路边托钵，但也有许多人很法喜的供养僧团。新加坡是不允许任何人在公共场合乞食的，要托钵必须要先通知警方才可。





袈裟的颜色虽然不同，但尊者们都是僧团的一份子，都是佛陀的儿子，都是法的继承人，他们都是人间无上的福田。但并不是每一个人都有这个福气能够在无上的福田耕耘种福的，虽然看似有很多人曾经在过去或正在供养僧团，但这些人的数目与世界的人口是不成正比的，就像掌中之土与大地之土一样的比喻！他们还必须要有过去的善业能让一个人对三宝起信和有能接受布施供养的好福田。在没有佛陀出世的世间，以及没有僧团的边地，人们要做这种功德，哪怕区区顶礼的机会都没有。即使一个乐善好施的善人，在没有佛法的世间大量的布施凡夫，每天供养的食物有几十几百公里那么长，但其果报还不及供养僧团或供养一位圣者的几千万分之一！

Paṭisaṅkhā yoniso cīvaraṃ paṭisevāmi, yāvadeva sītassa paṭighātāya, uṇhassa paṭighātāya, ḍaṃsa-makasa-vātātapa-siriṃsapa-samphassānaṃ paṭighātāya, yāvadeva hirikopīna-paṭicchādanatthaṃ.
我如理省思所受用之衣，只是为了防御寒冷，为了防御炎热，为了防御虻、蚊、风吹、日晒、爬虫类的触恼，只是为了遮蔽羞处。

Paṭisaṅkhā yoniso piṇḍapātaṃ paṭisevāmi, n'eva davāya na madāya na maṇḍanāya na vibhūsanāya, yāvadeva imassa kāyassa ṭhitiyā yāpanāya vihiṃsuparatiyā brahma-cariyānuggahāya, iti purāṇañca vedanaṃ paṭihaṇkhāmi navañca vedanaṃ na uppādessāmi, yātrā ca me bhavissati anavajjatā ca phāsuvihāro cā'ti.
我如理省思所受用的食物，不为嬉戏，不为骄慢，不为装饰，不为庄严，只是为了此身住立存续，为了停止伤害，为了资助梵行，如此我将消除旧受，并使新受不生，我将维持生命、无过且安住。

我如理省思所受用的坐卧处，只是为了防御寒冷，为了防御炎热，为了防御虻、蚊、风吹、日晒、爬虫类的触恼，只是为了免除季候的危险，而好独处（禅修）之乐。

Paṭisaṅkhā yoniso gilāna-paccaya-bhesajja-parikkhāraṃ paṭisevāmi, yāvadeva uppannānaṃ veyyābādhikānaṃ vedanānaṃ paṭighātāya, abyāpajjha-paramatāyā'ti.
我如理省思所受用的病者所需之医药资具，只是为了防御已生起的病苦之受，为了尽量没有身苦。

Sabbāsīvisajātīnam, 犹如天咒与仙丹，
dibbamantāgadam viya; 此护蕴经
yam nāseti visam ghoram, 否定了毒祸与众危急，
sesañcāpi parissayam. 所有极毒的生物。

Āṇākkhetamhi sabbattha, 在（佛陀）的庇佑下，
sabbadā sabbapāṇinam; 所有处，时时，为众生，
sabbasopi nivāreti, 随机，此经能避免（灾害）
parittam tam bhaṇāma he. 来吧！让我们共同诵念此护卫经。

Virūpakkhehi me mettaṃ, 我散播慈爱给维卢巴卡，
mettaṃ erāpathehi me, 我散播慈爱给伊拉巴他，
chabyāputtehi me mettaṃ, 我散播慈爱给差比阿子，
mettaṃ kaṇhāgotamakehi ca. 我散播慈爱给黑苟答马。

Apādakehi me mettaṃ, 我散播慈爱给无足者，
mettaṃ dipādakehi me, 我散播慈爱给二足者，
catuppadehi me mettaṃ, 我散播慈爱给四足者，
mettaṃ bahuppadehi me. 我散播慈爱给多足者。

Mā maṃ apādako hiṃsi, 愿无足者勿伤害我，
mā maṃ hiṃsi dipādako, 愿二足者勿伤害我，
mā maṃ catuppado hiṃsi, 愿四足者勿伤害我，
mā maṃ hiṃsi bahuppado. 愿多足者勿伤害我。

Sabbe sattā, sabbe pāṇā, 一切有情、一切有息者、
sabbe bhūtā ca kevalā, 一切生类之全部，
sabbe bhadrāni passantu, 愿见到一切祥瑞，
mā kañci pāpam-āgamā. 任何恶事皆不会到来！
Appamāṇo buddho, 佛无量，
appamāṇo dhammo, 法无量，
appamāṇo saṅgho. 僧无量。
Pamāṇavantāni siriṃsapāni: 爬行类却有限量：
ahi, vicchikā, satapadā, 蛇、蝎、蜈蚣、
uṇṇānābhī, sarabhū, mūsikā. 蜘蛛、蜥蜴、老鼠。

Katā me rakkhā, katā me parittā, 我已作保护，我已作护卫，
paṭikkamantu bhūtāni. 愿诸[伤害性]生类皆退避。
So'haṃ namo bhagavato, 我礼敬彼世尊！
namo sattannaṃ sammāsambuddhānan'ti. 礼敬七位全自觉者！
