(Petaling Jaya, 30th) In the face of the economic downturn and inflation, some netizens launched an online petition on the joint website "Change.org", asking the Employees Provident Fund (KWSP) to once again The opening of the special withdrawal has received support from more than 30,000 people in less than a day.
Netizen Faiq Naqib from Cyberjaya launched a petition yesterday asking the government to allow the Employees Provident Fund to open the SDR again to address the sharp rise in commodity prices and post-Covid-19 inflation.
"To this day, the government has still not been able to provide comprehensive assistance and solutions, so we are asking for our own money to get through the predicament we are facing."
The petition started yesterday and has attracted more than 30,000 signatures in less than a day; as of 6 o'clock in the evening, a total of 34,450 people have participated, and the number of participants is still increasing.
Faiknatch also listed several proposals for withdrawing EPF deposits in the petition, including allowing housewives and single mothers who do not have regular jobs and inactive contributors to withdraw all their deposits to maintain daily expenses and help the family's economic situation.
He believes that the government should also allow people who have been laid off, voluntarily quit, have no jobs and have difficulty finding work due to age and health factors to withdraw all their CPF savings.
"Members under the age of 54 who are from the B40 and M40 groups (who are still actively contributing) can withdraw 30% of their first account as needed to make ends meet."
He also suggested the government to allow all members of the B40 and M40 groups (who are still actively contributing) with savings of less than RM10,000 (regardless of age) to withdraw their full savings and keep RM100 in their first and second accounts balance.
The petition has also received responses from many netizens. Netizen Fahiza, who has signed it, praised and said, "Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, I have been without a job for nearly 3 years and cannot save the provident fund. I am 47 years old, and also due to health reasons. It’s hard to find a job, and now my wife and I are selling fried bananas and fried shrimp cakes, and we have 4 children to take care of. I strongly support those who cannot continue to contribute to withdrawing all their CPF savings.”
Another netizen, Shansha Lamat, said, "Many people need SDR 2.0 to deal with the price increase of everything, such as daily necessities, children's school expenses, etc., excluding emergency needs, such as me. I myself have to take care of autistic children and buy groceries every two weeks, but I lost my job during the first movement control order, so I hope the government can allow people to withdraw money again.”
In addition to Faiknatch's petition, there are 80 other petitions making the same request, and the number of petitions is expected to continue to grow.
