SMG will be having the Forest Tradition meditation retreat on Jun 4 ~ 8. There will indoor meditation for beginner and outdoor (nature) meditation for intermediate yogi.

Dear Bro. & Sis. of the Dhamma,
This is an invitation to join a Buddhist tour of Lembah Bujang (Bujang Valley) in Kedah. Lembah Bujang is about 20 minutes drive from the town of Sg Petani, Kedah. Bujang Valley is the oldest recorded civilization and Kingdom of Peninsula Malaya. Historical datas showed that it started in the 2 A.D. which means about 1900 years ago. It began when merchants from India travelled to China to trade. Gunung Jerai (Bujang Valley) being the first sight of land after crossing the India Ocean was a stopover for food and water before continuing their journey. Soon the place prospered and a Kingdom emerged. A King ruled with the title of Maharaja. Hinduism and Buddhism were spread to this region at that time. Many grand and beautiful temples were built. These places of worship were called “Candi”.
The building technology was rather primitive at that time. The upper part of the constructions which used wood as building material were destroyed by fire when the 9th Maharaja converted to Islam in the 12 A.D. Most of the remains of the “Candi” are the foundation and the base of the temples. For those that have visited Bali you will be able to imagine how this “Candi” will look although Candis in Bali were built at a much later period. They were built from 9 A.D. to 12 A.D. but the upper portion of the temple used stone and granite as building material.
During the tour of Lembah Bujang we will have the opportunity to visit Sammaditthi Meditation Grove (SMG) which is of Thai Theravadian temple Forest Tradition but with “Malaysian flavour”. There are two Malaysian duttanga monks residing at SMG, so we will be able learn more about the Forest Tradition and also perform dana at the temple. On the 7th of June, this tour group will be sponsoring the lunch dana for the monks and all eight preceptors at the temple practising meditation and self cultivation at SMG.
Do take this opportunity to visit Bujang Valley and SMG to understand better about Buddhism and Buddhism practices in Malaysia.

The estimated cost of this tour is RM250~RM300 (Hotel + Food), still waiting for the quotation from the Hotel. While in Sungai Petani transportation will be by Car Pooling.

The Samanera Programme is open to all male adults who are keen to learn and live in accordance with the Sutta-Vinaya (Dhamma-Vinaya). All Samaneras are expected to observe the Ten Precepts and all rules applicable to other residents of the Vihara.

Abbot of Wat Pah Sai Ngam(Forest monastery of the beautiful bayan trees), Tambon Mueang Det, Ampher Det Udom, Ubon Rachathani province.

Born:

March 6th 2489(1946) as Anek Yoosukh, as child of Mr. Kehb Yoosukh and Mrs. See Yosukh in Bahn Vieng Gasehm, Tambon Mueng Det, Ampher Det Udom, Ubon Rachathani province

Education:

In 1958 finished fourth grade of elementary school in Rongrien bahn Chaemcharoen, Tambon Mueang Det, Ampher Det Udom, Ubon Rachathani.

Oridnation as novice and monk on June 9th, 2510(1967) in Wat Saeng Gasehm, tambon Mueang Det, Ampher Det udom, Ubon Rachathani.

Upajjhaya: Phra Wiboon Dhammathada (Gaoh Dhammadinno)

Kammavacacariya: Phra mahasohm Vatthano & Phra Samukhen Chainnalayo



Monastic Residences:

In 2511(1968) living under Ajahn Chah Subhaddo(Phra Bodhinanathera) at Wat nong Pah pong, tambon Nong pueng Warin Chamrab, Udon Rachathani province.
