Julio Cesar (Inter): Followed up his impressive performance for Brazil against Italy with another outstanding showing for Inter in the derby triumph. Made a number of crucial stops at 2-1, particularly from Alexandre Pato and Filippo Inzaghi.
Defence
Daniele Capelli (Atalanta): Has only started a handful of matches this season but will be pushing for a more regular place following his imperious display against Roma. Kept Francesco Totti quiet all game and even had time to break the deadlock down the other end.
Thomas Manfredini (Atalanta): In Team of the Week for the third week in succession after another solid showing. Like partner Capelli, Manfredini limited Roma to scraps in front of goal.
Christian Chivu (Inter): Should have conceded a penalty for a clear foul on Inzaghi but, this aside, Chivu made a number of vital interceptions and tackles in the Inter penalty area. If the Romanian can just keep himself fully fit, he is a real asset.
Midfield
Michele Fini (Cagliari): Despite losing their first five games of the season, the Sardinians have now surged up to seventh in the table. On Sunday afternoon the Rossoblu saw off Lecce 2-0. Fini ran the show in midfield and opened the scoring with a contender for Goal of the Week.
Dejan Stankovic (Inter): Playing like a man on a mission this season, having so nearly left the club last summer. Never stopped running against Milan and, despite earlier missing a sitter, Stankovic got his reward before half time with a vicious volley.
Cristiano Doni (Atalanta): Doni turns 36 on April Fools Day but, despite his age, he certainly is no joke. The attacking midfielder was unplayable in Bergamo yesterday, helping himself to two goals in the 3-0 win over Roma. Talismanic.
Pavel Nedved (Juventus): A fantastic first half during Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Sampdoria, rolling back the years. Desperately unlucky to twice hit the post, the Bianconeri will be hoping that Nedved can replicate this performance against Chelsea next week.
Trequartista
Ronaldinho (Milan): Despite Milan’s defeat, this was the real Ronaldinho. The Brazilian created countless opportunities, providing a spell-binding through ball in the build-up to Pato’s goal. Also showed good dribbling skills and acceleration.
Attack
Adrian Mutu (Fiorentina): The Viola seemed destined to relinquish fourth place to Genoa as they trailed 3-0 with just half-an-hour to go. Enter Mutu, who then scored a penalty, free kick and a last gasp curler to earn the Tuscans an unlikely, yet priceless, point.
Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria): The forward’s silky skills caused the Juventus back line a number of problems, and the through ball for Giampaolo Pazzini’s opener was delightful. Having denied the Bianconeri, could Cassano end up in Turin next season?
