New J5 Music Coming In November
(6-10-09) Just in time to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Jackson 5, Motown has ventured into their vaults to come up with fresh J5 music.
"That's How Love Is," on sale today exclusively through iTunes, is the first single from 'I Want You Back! Unreleased Masters.' The album is a collection 12 previously unavailable tracks recorded between 1969 and 1974 by the Michael Jackson-led band of brothers. The album, along with the re-issued Jackson 5 'Ultimate Christmas Album,' will hit stores on Nov. 10 and can be pre-ordered at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and Borders.
The songs were unearthed from Motown's vaults to celebrate the anniversary of the group. In addition to the first single (which can be heard free at jackson5.com), other songs include a Stevie Wonder collaboration called "Buttercup;" a studio medley of "I Want You Back/ABC/The Love You Save;" an alternate version of "Never Can Say Goodbye" and an extended version of "Dancing Machine."
Michael Davis, general manager of Motown Universal Music Enterprises, says the spotlight is on young Michael's remarkable voice, which was sometimes overlooked once he became a superstar. Davis says,
I can't think of anyone who at that age had such a command and feeling of voice."
Producer/songwriter Deke Richards, a member of The Corporation which was responsible for most of the early Jackson 5 hits, agrees. Says Richards,
When I first saw them, it was like I was looking at a 30-year-old person inside a 9-year-old body. I hadn't seen the moves on him since James Brown and Jackie Wilson."
According to Richards, there is still a lot of music to be heard. He says the Jackson 5 were so prolific that there is plenty more unreleased material. This is because the band's sound evolved rapidly as the boys grew older, so the songs became dated before they could be released. Richards and original engineer Russ Terrana helped research and mix the new album.
Davis says label executives were surprised when they found so much unheard music. "When the Jackson 5 left Motown in 1975, there was like a five-album equivalent of unissued stuff released." He says that because of that, it was believed that everything worthwhile had been out before.
Of Jackson's death, Richards says,
It makes it sadder when you think that the world could have enjoyed a lot more Michael Jackson. We are going to miss him, but hopefully, we can fill in the blanks, and people can enjoy some great music he made."

Only Two MJ Books Approved By Estate
(07-10-2009) The following message was posted on Michael Jackson's official website today:
Despite the proliferation of Michael Jackson books published or announced since his death, The Official Michael Jackson Opus will remain the only brand new authorized tribute to the King of Pop appearing on the shelves for the holidays, it was announced today. The book joins the reissue of Michael's 1988 autobiography Moonwalk as the only titles authorized by the legendary singer's Estate.
A number of unauthorized books have been published or announced in recent weeks, frequently promoted to mislead fans into believing they were either approved by Michael before his death or sanctioned by his Estate. As authorized works, Moonwalk and The Official Michael Jackson Opus are the only books whose proceeds will go to his Estate for the beneficiaries Michael designated -- his children, his mother and the charitable causes that were important to him.
As Special Administrators of Michael's estate, we have authorized one title that sees Michael through his own eyes and another through the eyes of people he touched. Michael's fans worldwide will appreciate the contribution each book makes to his remarkable legacy."
- John Branca and John McClain, Michael Jackson Estate Co-Special Administrators
We are privileged to have witnessed Michael's creative genius up close and grateful to his Estate for recognizing our dedication to continuing his legacy. His fans will be thrilled, and have something that will remain with them for years to come. We also are grateful that this will benefit Michael's children, his mother and his many charitable causes, as well as providing his children and his mother with a lasting testimonial to his life of accomplishments."
- Jeff Wald, President and COO of Opus Media Group
Available December 7, 2009 from Opus Media Group, The Official Michael Jackson Opus is a leather-bound tribute that provides his fans with more than 400 pages of photographs and remembrances of his amazing life. Fans can preorder now and receive a discount for a limited time by going to Ticketmaster.com.
Moonwalk will be reissued by Harmony Books on October 13, 2009

Michael Jackson to live forever as an island in Dubai
Noless than three entries to Archinect and Bustler’s ‘Live Forever’competition to design a monument to Michael Jackson have been proposedfor Dubai.
Steven Ward of Louisville proposes a 25km long profile of MJ’ssignature moonwalk profile as a new artificial island developmentextending from the tip of the Palm Jumeirah, creating “thousands ofopportunities for Jackson’s legacy to inspire exciting new residential, leisure and entertainment centers in a variety of settings.”

Almost identically, New York’s Eigenvectors have applied the very samepose of MJ to the aerial view of Dubai, opening up huge new areas ofdevelopment that they suggest would “include an airport, amusementparks, and many ranches.”

The Jackson Islands scheme by entrant Zsuzsanna deploys a high-contrastprofile of the legend, creating mountains, residential districts andgreen fields surrounding a large lake spotted with islands in the shapeof Michael’s facial features.

Despite the tenuous connection between Michael Jackson and landreclamation projects in the Gulf, each entry highlights Dubai as aplace of unbounded possibility - perhaps it is the only place thatprojects like this could ever come to fruition?
Live Forever Competition
UPDATE
Thanks to the Crane Country blog over at The National for picking thisup and also drawing our attention to Michael Jackson’s visit to Nakheelback in 2005. Photos from Nakheel - the real estate development companybehind the major land reclamation projects in Dubai - show Michaelinspecting a model of ‘The World’. So much for a tenuous connection, these bizarre proposals are almost starting to look contextual.

MJ’S KIDS GO KUNG-FU FIGHTIN’

MICHAEL JACKSON’S KIDS GO KUNG-FU FIGHTIN’
The Jackson kids were spotted going to a karate class in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon (October 7).
Sporting their karate outfits, Paris Jackson and Blanket Jackson couldbe seen enthusiastically entering the building ready to punch, kick andelbow, but after an hour or so of butt-kicking, young Blanket wasclearly left exhausted as he got a piggyback ride on the way out!
Prince Jackson was also there — though only as an observer, not a participant.
Meanwhile, in the neverending whirlwind of press coming from MichaelJackson siblings, big sis La Toya Jackson says the late pop icon was“like God.”
The 53-year-old star insists MJ had divine qualities because of the wayhe tried to spread peace and love during his life, which was tragicallycut short in June.
Appearing on Britain’s Live From Studio Five, La Toya said: “Michaelwas very, very special and my mother would always say that, because hewas. He was very different. I would always say, ‘He’s not God. But he’sso God-like.’ He really was God-like. He just wanted to spread love andshare love and just do everything that was wonderful.”
