1. tiger airways vs jetstar asia
2. singapore airline vs qantas

2.tiger airways vs jetstar vs virgin blue(singapore airline 拥有49% virgin atlantic)

SIA staff get record bonuses
Bonus of 6.07 months is nearly twice last year's
Lee U-Wen
u-wen@mediacorp.com.sg
They arrived with high expectations, and judging by the cheers that followed, it's safe to say not many left disappointed. .
Singapore Airlines' (SIA) employees will pocket a record 6.07 months' basic bonus this year — nearly twice the 3.1 months they received last year — and the highest in the carrier's 60-year history. .
The good news was announced by the company's chief executive officer Chew Choon Seng on Friday at an annual staff business meeting. .
The record bonus payout came amid a near doubling of net profit for the group to $2.13 billion in the financial year ending March, up from $1.24 billion the previous year. .
The group's significant jump in performance came on the back of a stellar showing by the parent airline company, which recorded an operating profit of $1.027 billion, up 57.8 per cent from the previous year. .
Another record was shattered as SIA served 18.35 million passengers due to "healthy" demand for air travel. This figure is the highest in its history, and nearly 8 per cent more than the 17 million passengers in the previous 12 months. .
But the carrier warned that the ride ahead may be bumpy. .
"The key challenges being faced this year are limited capacity growth arising from delays in the delivery of the Airbus 380, the high price of aviation fuel and uncertainty over the continued strength of the United States economy and its implications globally," said Mr Chew during a results briefing on Friday. .
Capacity for passenger growth is "quite limited" in the coming 12 months because of the delays to the A380, he warned. .
SIA will take delivery of its first A380 super jumbo in October, nearly 19 months behind schedule after delays due to faulty wiring. The carrier will be the first in the world to fly the 555-seater plane commercially when the A380 begins plying the Singapore-Sydney route daily in November. .
Two more A380s, set to arrive here in January and February next year, will ferry passengers from Singapore to London, said Mr Chew. .
Still, Mr Chew said he expects passenger load to exceed 80 per cent in the current financial year, compared to 79 per cent in the previous year. .
Another persistent headache for SIA will be high jet-fuel prices, which cost the company some $4.92 billion last year, up 16 per cent. .
Fuel continues to account for over a third, or 37.3 per cent, of the group's annual expenditure. .
To reward its shareholders, Mr Chew said the company's board has proposed to undergo its first capital reduction exercise by cancelling one share for every 15 held, at $18.46 per cancelled share. .
With some 1.25 billion shares currently in issue, the recommendation, if approved, would mean 83 million shares being cancelled. .
Together with a special dividend of 50 cents per share, the board has recommended a total cash distribution to shareholders of $2.16 billion. Combined with the final dividend of 35 cents per share, the total distribution to shareholders will be $2.08 per share. .
And asked to comment on rumours that SIA received the first A380 for free, Mr Chew paused before quipping: "I never kiss and tell!"

SIA 'to buy China Eastern Airlines stake'
SINGAPORE - Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines said on Tuesday it has reached agreement with Singapore Airlines (SIA) for it to buy a stake in the China carrier.
'We have reached an agreement. Singapore Airlines is buying a stake in China Eastern. But I can't disclose until maybe Friday how much stake Singapore Airlines is buying,' a China Eastern official told XFN-Asia financial news.
The official, who asked not to be named, said talks between the two airlines have been concluded, but he declined to give further details, saying an official announcement will be made on or before Friday.
'The statement has something to do with our talks with Singapore Airlines,' the official said.
Shares of SIA and China Eastern were suspended on Tuesday at the Singapore Exchange and Hong Kong stock exchange. Both firms said they had an announcement to make after the close of trade. But there was still no statement more than one hour after both markets closed.
SIA chief executive Chew Choon Seng said on May 11 the Singapore carrier was in discussions with China Eastern for a possible deal, but that talks 'have not progressed to a stage where we have any announcements to make'.
The Shanghai Securities News reported from Beijing on Monday that talks were going on smoothly.
The newspaper quoted China Eastern chairman Li Fenghua as saying that the airline plans to sell up to a 25 per cent stake to a foreign strategic investor.
SIA has said China is a very important market for the Singapore carrier.
China Eastern Airlines managed to narrow its net loss by 46 per cent in the first quarter of the year to 510.9 million yuan (US$66.3 million). -- AFP

1。"the wingspan can shelter 2800 people"

Boeing

Singapore Airlines signs contract for 20 A350 XWB
22 June 2007

Singapore Airlines has signed a contract for the purchase of 20 A350-900 XWBs to meet its requirements on medium to long-range routes across the Asia-Pacific region from 2013 onwards. This order, which firms up the Letter of Intent placed in July 2006, represents another major commitment to the expansion of the airline’s Airbus fleet, which is already destined to include 19 A380s and 19 A330s.

The A350 XWB (extra wide-body) is Airbus’ response to market demand for a medium capacity long range wide-body family. Available from 2013, it will have an entirely new, uncompromised, 21st Century design with a new and wider fuselage for extra space and passenger comfort. It will also be extra efficient, extra environmentally friendly and quiet, as it will feature all the advanced technologies available in the first part of the 21st Century, bringing the A380 experience to a new level.

The all-new A350 XWB will offer Singapore Airlines unrivalled operating performance and economics, whilst passengers will enjoy outstanding comfort and amenities in a highly advanced and spacious cabin environment.

“We are very proud to have Singapore Airlines as a very early customer for the all new A350 XWB, particularly since it follows the announcement for nine additional A380 orders and 19 A330 leases. As one of the undisputed leaders of the global air transport industry, Singapore Airlines sets the most demanding standards to ensure that its aircraft combine outstanding passenger appeal, unbeatable efficiency and exceptional environmental friendliness. This makes it all the more gratifying for the A350 XWB to have been selected to meet the airline's requirement for future fleet growth and global network expansion,” said Louis Gallois, President and CEO, Airbus.

Conceived from the outset to become a comprehensive airliner Family, the A350 XWB will be available in three basic passenger versions, the A350-800 which can fly 270 passengers in a spacious three-class configuration up to 8,500 nm / 15,750 km, the A350-900 seating 314, and the A350-1000 which is designed for 350, both with ranges of up to 8,300nm / 15,400 km. The exact seating configuration for Singapore Airlines’ A350-900 XWBs will be announced by the airline at a later date.

With a cross section of 232 inches / 5.9 meters, the A350 XWB will benefit from the widest fuselage in its category, offering unprecedented levels of comfort in this market segment. It will also offer the lowest operating costs and lowest seat mile cost of any aircraft in that category. The Family is designed to confront the challenges of high fuel prices, rising passenger expectations, and environmental concerns in that market segment.

Tiger Airways orders up to 50 more A320 aircraft
21 June 2007

Tiger Airways, Singapore's fast growing low-fare carrier, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for an additional 30 Airbus A320s and 20 options. Tiger Airways currently operates a fleet of nine A320s, with 11 more to be delivered by 2010. With the latest order, Tiger Airways' fleet has the ability to grow to 70 Airbus aircraft. The MoU was signed at the 47th International Paris Air Show.

The A320s will be deployed on the airline's regional network in South East Asia that currently extends to 15 cities in seven countries, and will include its new operations within Australia starting later in 2007. Tiger Airways' A320s will be configured in a 180-seat, all-economy configuration. No engine choice has been made.

The latest A320 order by Tiger Airways serves to highlight the outstanding popularity that the A320 Family has enjoyed with both established and start up low-cost carriers in the Asia Pacific region over the past few years. Low-cost carriers in Australia, China, India, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore have ordered more than 300 A320 Family aircraft during the past three years. Almost 560 A320 Family aircraft are already in service with more than 40 airlines across the region.

"Tiger Airways is enjoying impressive growth, and we are expanding our aircraft fleet to meet continued strong demand for affordable air travel across the Asia Pacific region. The new order will take our total fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft to 70, making Tiger Airways one of the region's largest A320 operators," said Tony Davis, Chief Executive Officer of Tiger Airways.

"In just two years, Tiger Airways has developed into a formidable success story, and we are delighted they did it with our aircraft and are continuing to expand with Airbus jetliners. The A320 is undoubtedly the world’s favourite single-aisle aircraft, offering superb economics and high passenger appeal," said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers.

The A320 Family's optimised cabin cross-section - the widest single-aisle fuselage on the market - sets new standards for passenger cabin flexibility in this segment. It allows for top-of-the-range comfort with wider seats and aisles, or an extra-wide aisle for the fast turnarounds that are essential in the low-cost markets. Furthermore, the superior cabin size and shape allow larger overhead stowage to be fitted for faster boarding and deplaning as well as greater convenience.

With around 1,600 sales in the last two years alone, the A320 Family is also the fastest-selling jet airliner of all time. The A320 Family includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321. So far, more than 5,100 have been ordered.

Qatar airways, Emirates, Ethihad,

Could this be the 'mysterious' last order at the Airshow for Airbus? And would SQ also be the Asian customer interested in more A380s, as mentioned earlier this week?

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/busine...s/320830_airshow22.html?source=rss

Airbus announced an air-show record of nearly 700 firm orders and commitments at the Paris Air Show this week, but Airbus sales chief John Leahy may celebrate his best order last.

Singapore Airlines, a blue-chip customer that would instantly give the Airbus A350 XWB a big dose of credibility, may announce as soon as Friday that it has reached an agreement with Airbus for the plane, according to several people familiar with the 11th-hour negotiations.

They cautioned that talks were continuing between Leahy and Chew Choon Seng, chief executive of Singapore Airlines, and an agreement might not be struck before they leave Paris.

Leahy, chief commercial officer for Airbus, confirmed in an interview Thursday with the Seattle P-I that he has had talks during the show with Chew.

Asked if a Singapore A350 announcement was possible Friday, Leahy would only say, "Anything is possible."
