'These kids are preparing for the future'
December 29, 2013 is a date that both Jordan Rossiter and Brad Smith will never forget.
The latter, a 19-year-old talent from the Reds' U21 team, was introduced for the final half-hour of Liverpool's Barclays Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Watching on from the substitutes' bench in West London was 16-year-old Rossiter, a tenacious midfielder who is rising rapidly through the age groups at the club's Academy.
Smith travelled to Manchester City last Thursday and was joined on the trip south yesterday by Rossiter as reinforcements for a senior squad heavily hampered by a series of injuries.
Brendan Rodgers is confident of a successful future for both players, who, alongside fellow aspiring youngster Jack Dunn, have trained regularly with the first team at Melwood in recent weeks.
The manager said on Monday: "They are only kids, especially young Jordan. He's a young player that only came into the football club full-time this season.
"He has been playing regularly in the U21 team and doing exceptionally well. He's a tough boy that has got a great mindset. That was as much preparation for him for the future, being around a big game and what it feels like.
"Hopefully over the course of the coming years, he can progress and develop - that game will be a reference for him in terms of where he wants to get to.
"Young Brad is a full-back that has been out for a period of time. What he has, and the reason for putting him on yesterday, is the capacity, physically, to cope at that level.
"In terms of his pace, he's very quick, he's strong and powerful. At that level, that's the type of profile of player that you need.
"For both of them, it has been a great opportunity. They have been up here training with me along with Jack Dunn, who is another talented young player. They are getting experience being in and around the squad."

青训小将adam morgan正式转会 yeovil town
Morgan joins Yeovil on permanent deal
Liverpool Football Club have confirmed that Adam Morgan has joined Yeovil Town on a permanent deal.
The 19-year-old striker made the switch to the Glovers on loan in November, and has now signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club.
Speaking about the move on his official Twitter account, Morgan wrote: "Thank you for all the messages off LFC fans, [it] means a lot to me.
"I spent so much of my life at Liverpool and loved every minute - the ups and the downs.
"Liverpool is always the team I will love and support, and always where my home will be, but it's time for me to show what I can do at my new club.
"I am really looking forward to what I hope to be a huge stage of my career."
Morgan progressed through Liverpool's Academy before being handed his break in the senior side by Brendan Rodgers at the start of the 2012-13 season.
In total, the forward made three first-team appearances for the Reds.
Everyone at Liverpool Football Club would like to wish Adam all the best for the future.

青训小将Craig Roddan转租英乙球会Accrington Stanley 1个月
Academy youngster Craig Roddan has joined Accrington Stanley on a one-month youth loan, Liverpool Football Club confirmed today.
The 20-year-old moves to the League Two side having recently completed a month-long spell with Carlisle United, during which he made one appearance.
Roddan has been based at the Reds' Academy since joining the club from Wigan Athletic in 2007. |

青训队长 Conor Coady 延长租借合约到24/2
Liverpool have confirmed Conor Coady has extended his loan deal with Sheffield United.
The midfielder will remain at Bramall Lane until February 24 - the day before his 21st birthday - as per the terms of his youth loan.
Since joining the Blades in July, Coady has made 23 appearances in all competitions, scoring once, and manager Nigel Clough is delighted to have prolonged his spell.
He said: "We have extended the loan of Conor and will see how things progress. Obviously the lad wants to be playing regularly, so we thought in the first instance it would be wise to sort out the short-term.
"He has started a lot of games since he arrived, he does a lot of good things, but as you would expect from a young player, has areas of his games to work on.
"Conor is such a bright lad, though; he has a real willingness to learn and improve and always has a smile on his face.
"He will certainly have benefited from this loan and he has proved to be a useful performer to have in our squad too."

青训右卫Mclaughlin短期租借到Barnsley
Academy youngster Ryan McLaughlin has joined Barnsley on an initial one-month youth loan, Liverpool Football Club confirmed today.
The 19-year-old, who signed a new contract with the Reds in July 2013, will join Danny Wilson's Championship outfit.
McLaughlin, a talented full-back, arrived at the Academy in the summer of 2011 and has represented Northern Ireland at youth level.
In 2012, he joined the Reds on their pre-season tour of North America and featured in their second fixture against AS Roma. |

In front of the watching Arsene Wenger at their home training ground, the Gunners fielded the likes of England star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Carl Jenkinson and Emmanuel Frimpong.
However, Alex Inglethorpe's charges produced a superb performance in their first outing of 2014 and thoroughly deserved the victory.
Ngoo fired the Reds in front after just four minutes but the Gunners levelled when Jenkinson set up Benik Afobe.
Kristoffer Peterson was in the Liverpool side after his loan spell at Tranmere Rovers and he provided an assist as Ngoo headed home for 2-1.
Brad Smith fired a superb goal just before the break to make it 3-1 before Peterson added goal number four on 64 minutes.
Hayden Isaac pulled a consolation goal back for the Gunners in the final stages.

Samed Yesil's season is over after the Liverpool FC striker ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament for the second time in a year.
The 19-year-old German youth international, who cost the Reds ￡1million from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2012, is awaiting surgery after suffering the devastating setback in training.
“Unfortunately Samed has suffered a reoccurrence of his knee injury,” confirmed Reds under-21s coach Alex Inglethorpe.
“It’s a horrible situation for him. He had only just recovered from the previous injury.
“We will give him all the support he needs. He’s a great character and I am sure he will come back strongly from this.”
Yesil only returned to action in October following eight months out after damaging his cruciate ligament on international duty with Germany.
He has made two first team appearances for the Reds – featuring in last season’s League Cup win over West Brom and the defeat to Swansea. |
