DryShips, Inc. (DRYS) - The baltic dry index continues to move higher but the sector was trashed on Thursday after the market dropped. DRYS is very volatile so if you are holding this stock, you have to be prepared for the violent moves. Every time DRYS appears as though it is strong in the $7's, the sellers quickly move in. One of these days, DRYS will hold steady in the $7's and break $8 causing a spike to $10. I would be a buyer of DRYS below $6.

DryShips, Inc. (DRYS) continues to hold the 200 day moving average on the latest pullback. Intraday support is located at $6 while resistance is $6.40 as well as $6.64. DRYS has basically traded flat since April 2009. Each spike has made a lower high recently with the latest one being $7.30. Use these highs as resistance levels to watch. As soon as one is broken, the chance of a sustainable break out is much greater. I own DRYS for my long term portfolio and I don't plan on adding anymore until the stock closes over $8. I will buy more in my trading portfolio when DRYS breaks $7.30.

DryShips, Inc. (DRYS) - DRYS shows signs of life every now and then. Still waiting for a Drill Ship contract which would send shares flying. If not in the next month, we could see a contract announcement in early 2010. The first level of resistance is located at $6.50.

DryShips, Inc. (DRYS) - Drys received a big upgrade out of Deutsche Bank Thursday morning. The stock is trying to close above $6.50 which would be bullish. After $6.50, the next two levels to watch are $7 & $7.30. The BDI is back over 4000.

Sunesis Pharma's Impressive Gain: Hoping for a Dip

Shares of Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (SNSS) rallied Thursday on an impressive run that saw the stock reach an intra-day high of $1.84, a full 131% price increase from the open.

Earlier in the week, SNSS moved higher on news that the company's lead drug Voreloxin had proved a success in a recently completed Phase II trial that measured its effectiveness in the treatment of Acute Myeloid Leukemia [AML]. However, Thursday's big run has led to speculation that additional news may be pending; maybe partnership news.

That being said, those that have held this stock from or near its 52-week lows should reward themselves for a very successful investment and sell some shares into the spike, because chances are that the stock will retreat somewhat after such an impressive run, assuming that immediate additional news is not pending.

I still like SNSS as a great long term addition to the portfolio, but that is not to say that an investor should ignore the impressive short term gains and flip a few shares as insurance towards the long term investment.

My entry / exit strategy for SNSS revolved around trading the pending Phase II news, so I stuck to my plan and sold half of my position at just over a buck and the other half at just under a buck thirty, meaning I missed out on some additional gains. However, in my opinion, you can't complain about the profits that were to be had with the gains that SNSS realized over the past couple of weeks.

With the trade play over, I'll look for any dip to start a new position with SNSS in my long term portfolio, and I think a dip may be possible after a run like Thursday.

That being said, the market cap of just under 50 million tells me that the stock could still double in short time, so I'll be looking to get back in quick on any dips.

Another factor to consider is that a stock offering is almost a guarantee sometime soon; after all, the company still needs to fund the Phase III trials. The time to buy back in may be after an offering is announced.

For a trade, I'd be a buyer near $1.60 as well as $1.31 using tight stops. A break above today's high of $2.43 would be very bullish and you could possibly see the stock run into the $3's. SNSS has huge volume so it must be respected if you are shorting it.

Cyclacel Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (CYCC) - CYCC had an OK day but volume wasn't anywhere near Friday's volume. CYCC hit $1.69 but if you blinked you would have missed it. There was a large amount of selling in the $1.60's. At this point, I'm waiting until CYCC breaks above $1.70 before I jump in again.
