LG adopts Tegra 2, dual-core smartphones on the wayLG announced it's preparing a new lineup of smartphones based on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform. Dual core 1GHz processor, low-power NVIDIA graphics and seamless fullHD playback will be the key features of the refreshed Optimus brand.
LG will present NVIDIA Tegra 2 based smartphones within the last quarter of this year. The first devices utilizing Tegra 2 will be from the Optimus brand.
NVIDIA Tegra 2 includes 1GHz dual-core processor and powerful but energy-efficient G-Force GPU. Tegra 2 will guarantee excellent browsing and gaming performance plus 1080p video playback.
There is no word on the OS yet, but we guess both Android and Windows Phone 7 are likely candidates.
Samsung presents Orion - a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU Samsung unveiled the successor of their highly popular Hummingbird processor - Orion. The new platform is based on 1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU, packs a vastly better GPU and allows 1080p video encoding/decoding. Plus there is support for up to three displays.
The mobile scene just got on the next evolutionary step. Samsung Orion is the powerful successor of the popular Hummingbird CPU(used in Galaxy S/Galaxy Tab, Wave, iPhone 4/iPad). It packs a new 1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 architecture, a 5 times more powerful graphic accelerator and HDMI 1.3a interface supporting two on-device and one external displays.
The new chip should allow way better gaming experience, 1080p video playing and recording at 30fps as well as, of course, the multiple display support.
Samsung Orion will become available to manufacturers partners in Q4 this year, while the mass-production cycle will start in the first half of 2011. |
