i used to think 'seldom' was quite a common word..

but when i went to new zealand, i've never heard this word.there was once i said it, and i had to repeat a few times before my host sister got me..
according to her, that's the queen's english..

most probably you are right. i know a gramma rule where adverb has to be at certain places... but we malaysian seldom care about it. Since 'won't' and 'be' are consider verb, I think it's proper to have it there!

Ya regarding seldom... I rarely find it in other english forum and many occasions this word is not used. Someone whose mother tongue is english even asked me what does 'seldom' mean ...

yea yea..when i said it to my host sister,she had to ask her friend for the meaning..
so now i'd rather use ‘don usually blah blah’,‘not very often’,‘hardly’ etc.

well 'rarely' is one of my favourite, i think it's suitable too, right?
so is barely i guess =)

i think i am a "limited company" as well.

so, this a a great chance for everyone to share with each other and will not feel hurt when others try to correct our sentences.

i have no problem in conversation but when it comes to writing..i think i'm real sux..

expert out there, how can i improve my writting skill!!?? help........

On the extrinsic way, yes it is. But the root of it is, you must make yourself enjoy what you read, trying to think more when you want to write. If you have the desire to master this language, you have the energy to think more when you write and appreciate the wordings when you read.

I make a lot of mistakes but I enjoy the process =)

yes, i totally agree with you.
Learning will not be an easy process whereby you need to put a lot of efforts into it.

What makes the difference?  Your mind,tell yourself that you are going to have fun with the language especially the vocabulary, which is the toughest.

I think none has been born with great skill in language. Eveyone has to work hard on it.

Ya, we got the same point.

As for myself, how did I master my mandarin? I didn't just labour, I have been pursuing with my heart, having the proper likeness to go after it. In this process, I find joy and fun. I ponder and wonder along the way and without myself realising it, I have sorta mastered my mandarin

It shall be the same for english too, I thought. So, I gradually fall in love with english... But for my Malay Language, it is just another good example of the contrary... I labour hard, I want to  be good in it, for my exam. And it ends up so-so.

Friends,there are a lots of ways to improve your writing skill.

Firstly,You have got to master your grammar.
By having grammatical knowledges,it ensures all of your essays are free from grammatical knowledge.Thus,the reader will feel very pleasure reading your articles.

To be a good writer,besides having grammatical knowledge,your vocabulary must be strong.You have to sprinkle a little bit of elegance in your writing.

The purpose of writing narration is to interest the readers.
The purpose of writing report/expository is to furnish information.
That is why...When you write report,it must be devoid of adverbs and adjective.

When you first start writing,recall what steps had you taken before you wrote your essay?

Nowadays malaysians like to start writing when they have chosen the question without any planning.This kind of writing will certainly curb your confidence in the examination hall because when you know the duration is going to end,you will be shivering there.

Perhaps you may get good result by writing without planning in our so called secondary school,but this kind of skill will not ensure you a pass in the tertiary education.

to write well,we must first do brainstorming process.
Write down all the points that you have gained through intensive thinking.
After you have jotted down your points,remove those points which you think are irrelevant.After you have done that,you will start to sequence your points.Rearragement is very important as it will make the essay more interesting to be read.

I will be sitting for CAE exams on this december.

I read newspaper everyday, and i jot down new vocabularies. But the problem is that, i used to forget what i have just learnt ... help me...

Because you learn hard and with strong determination only, but not learning naturally or with interest. Think, how you master your chinese language.

BTW, the hard way u practice now can be made more perfect by , let say, recall the vocabularies again within the first few hours and then recall it again within 24 hours and lastly the next day. ^^ Hope this helps a lot, but it takes some seemingly easy but hardly practisable(i duno if this word exists, help me with this word) efforts.

(I sense some problems in my writing, correct me and I thank u )

You should use those new words before they are forgotten.
The more words you see,the more intelligent you are.
However,you may forget some of those vocabularies,but the advantage is you have seen them.

You need not to open up your dictionary everytime becuz sometime we can guess the meaning of the word.(prefix and suffix sometimes tell us the meaning of the particular word.)
