中國西昌衛星發射中心在1日零時用「長征三號甲」運載火箭,成功將「鑫諾三號」通信衛星送入太空,這是中國長征火箭系列從1970年4月第一次發射後,第100次的成功發射。
這是發射的衛星鑫諾三號通信衛星由中國航天科技集團公司所屬中國空間技術研究院為主研製,衛星是中國東方紅三號衛星平台生產的第10顆衛星,此衛星將提供中國通信、廣播和數據傳輸提供服務。
用於發射任務的長征三號甲運載火箭,則是由中國航天科技集團公司所屬中國運載火箭技術研究院研製,是一枚三級液體火箭,具備對有效載荷進行大姿態調姿的能力,可執行一箭多星的發射任務。而從長江系列的火箭從1970年發射後,今日的發射剛好為第100號。
長江系列的火箭為中國在國際商業衛星發射服務市場上佔有一席之地,長江系列的火箭具備了發射低、中、高不同軌道、不同類型衛星的能力,先後成功地發射了中國第一顆返回式科學技術試驗衛星、第一顆通信衛星、第一艘載人飛船等,成為中國重要的太空發展。 |

Malaysia's Astronaut Candidates Get Green Light To Train At NASA

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's astronaut candidates can train at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States (US) to familiarise themselves with the American compartment at the International Space Station (ISS).
Science, Technology and Innovations Minister Datuk Seri Jamaluddin Jarjis said NASA had granted permission for Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor and Kapt Dr Faiz Khaleed (the two candidates) to undergo the training from July 23 to 27.
"The permission is very important as our astronaut will shift from the Russian module to the NASA compartment at the ISS," he told reporters after attending a design recognition ceremony for local products here Tuesday.
Before going to the US, both men will fly back to Malaysia on June 18, he said.
One of the candidates will make the space journey scheduled for October and in the process make history by becoming Malaysia's first astronaut.
Meanwhile, Jamaluddin said Malaysia would step up research and development (R&D) efforts to improve on its commercial products to further enhance the economy.
He said the time had come for Malaysia to use "knowledge" as its new economic resource.
"Malaysia cannot be complacent anymore as China and Vietnam are now offering cheaper labour for foreign investors. The world has now shifted to China, India and even Vietnam," he said.
A total of 15 products of Malaysian design such as furniture and packaging items were awarded with the "Malaysia Good Design Mark 2006" as recognition by the Malaysia Design Council.
Jamaluddin added that the ministry was ready to allocate RM500 million for R&D, mainly to universities, and that the government had already engaged international consultants such as Boston Capital and Pricewater House Coopers to identify and develop strategies and markets for Malaysian design.

China Delays Moon Mission

China will postpone its first unmanned mission to the Moon by at least 5-6 months, a delay that under current scheduling means Japan will beat China to lunar orbit, with a far more ambitious triple-spacecraft launch in mid summer.
The Asian space race to the Moon is politically important in Asia-Pacific technology circles where China talks a good game, but Japan has produced far more concrete results, especially in space exploration.
The country that prevails with first lunar bragging rights will be noted in the region, where China is perpetually trying to spread influence at the expense of Japan.
China's new oxygen/hydrogen propulsion system development, needed for even more ambitious Chinese lunar missions, is also falling years behind schedule, U. S. intelligence analysts believe.
China had originally planned to launch its 5,000-lb. Chang'e lunar orbiter in April on an existing Long March booster. Beijing officials who had been touting the spring target for a year suddenly are announcing a September or October date at the earliest for their first Moon mission, as if the early spring target had never been on the books.
In contrast, the 6,600-lb. Japanese Selene lunar orbiter has been delivered to the Tanegashima Space Center for launch in early August on an increasingly important Asia-Pacific space mission.
These are not just "planning paper programs" decades from development, but advanced aerospace projects involving thousands of engineers in both countries. By using advanced aerospace technologies, Japan has developed the most ambitious lunar mission since the end of the U. S. Apollo lunar program in 1972 and the final Soviet unmanned sample return flight in 1976.
And Selene is far more complex than the Chinese flight. The Japanese vehicle is a triple-spacecraft mission with a 16-ft.-tall mothership, the largest unmanned spacecraft ever sent to the Moon. Selene is only a few feet shorter than the Grumman Apollo lunar modules that landed astronauts on the surface.

意大利也发射自己的大地观测卫星

ST. LOUIS, June 08, 2007 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA], through its commercial launch business, successfully launched the first of four Italian Constellation of Small Satellites for Mediterranean basin Observation (COSMO) SkyMed spacecraft June 7 aboard a Delta II rocket.
Lift-off occurred at 7:34 p.m. Pacific time from Pad SLC-2W at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. A Delta II 7420-10 configuration launch vehicle deployed the COSMO-SkyMed spacecraft to low-Earth orbit approximately 58 minutes after liftoff.
"We are pleased to provide launch services for Thales Alenia Space Italia, the Italian Space Agency and the Italian Ministry of Defense," said Brewster Shaw, vice president and general manager, Boeing Space Exploration. "Congratulations to the COSMO-SkyMed launch team on a job well done. Boeing is honored by the opportunity to be a part of this exciting mission with the successful lift into space provided by the United Launch Alliance Delta II, a vehicle with a long Boeing history."
The COSMO-SkyMed launch is the first Boeing commercial Delta II launch since Feb. 11, 2002, when Boeing launched five Iridium satellites from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Thales Alenia Space Italia, which provides Delta II tanks to Boeing, developed the COSMO-SkyMed program for the Italian Space Agency and the Italian Ministry of Defence. It is an end-to-end Earth observation dual-use (civil and military) system composed of four medium-sized satellites and supporting ground stations for orbit control systems and data reception and processing. The system will take imagery of the Earth using an X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar instrument capable of operating in all visibility conditions at the request of institutional and commercial users, including members of the civil, scientific and military communities. |

可以用来监视邻国的导弹发射活动。
卫星还配备了以色列制造SAR雷达。
当三颗卫星发射完毕后,

India will launch its first dedicated military satellite in August to give the country the capability to monitor missile launches in its neighbourhood.
The dedicated military reconnaissance satellite, CARTOSAT 2A, will be launched on a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the first week of August, an official said.
CARTOSAT 2A will boast of spatial resolution and will be loaded with cameras that can supply advanced imagery. It will cater to military and intelligence specifications than any existing Indian satellite.
The launch of the satellite will fulfill a long- standing demand from the armed forces for a dedicated reconnaissance spacecraft.
Launch of the first military satellite will be rapidly followed by the launch of two more advanced imaging satellites by next year to give India the capability of keeping an eye round-the-clock on the region surrounding the country.
The first military satellite will have an Israeli synthetic aperture radar that can take pictures of the earth through cloud and rain round the clock.
With three advanced reconnaissance satellites in orbit, Indian military agencies will have the capability to keep an eye on the airspace over Pakistan and China, to study the oceans and monitor changes in winds across the seas.
Network-centric platform
India currently has in orbit three dual-purpose satellites - CARTOSAT-I, CARTOSAT-II and the Technical Experiment Satellite - that are used by the country's space agency and the military.
The launch of CARTOSAT 2A has been timed to coincide with the scheduled delivery of the country's first airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft by Israel to give the armed forces a network-centric platform for carrying out surveillance from the ground to the stratosphere.
However, the supply of the Phalcon AWACS aircraft has been delayed by a few months.
The launch of the military satellite is also being undertaken in tandem with the Indian Air Force's plan to set up an integrated air command, control and communication system.
The plan envisages the linking of the AWACS, Aerostat balloon-borne radars and low-level transportable radars of the IAF with the dedicated military satellite. |

Israel Launches Advanced Spy Satellite
Israel successfully launched an advanced spy satellite into orbit Monday, giving it a sophisticated new tool in its efforts to collect intelligence on archenemy Iran and other regional adversaries.
Israeli space officials said the Ofek-7 satellite can pick up even small objects from space, and that information will be shared with the United States.
Ofek-7 was launched from a beach front air base south of Tel Aviv before dawn, the bright flame from its booster rocket lighting up the beach and ocean on a clear night and the roar of its engines heard more than 10 miles away.
Senior officials from Israel's space program said the satellite will significantly improve Israel's intelligence capabilities, allowing it to view objects as small as an average TV set.
"It's true that this helps the Iranian issue," Haim Eshed, chief of the Defense Ministry's space department, told Army Radio. "And it's clear above all else that this satellite is a very significant addition to the ability to gather intelligence."
Israel considers Iran its main strategic threat, charging that Iran's nuclear program is designed to build atomic weapons. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said repeatedly that Israel should be "wiped off the map." Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
The new satellite is "one of the most sophisticated in the world" and will operate with the existing Ofek-5 to provide different viewing angles, said Yiftah Shapir, a military analyst at the Institute of National Security Studies. "This will enhance Israeli capabilities to monitor any threat from anywhere in the region, whether its Lebanon, Syria or Iran," he said.
Ofek-5 is already past its projected life span, pressed into additional service with the failure two years ago of the launch of Ofek-6. "Ofek" is the Hebrew word for "Horizon."
The satellite weighs 66 pounds and is 7.5 feet long, said the chairman of the Israel Space Agency, Isaac Ben-Israel. It is significantly lighter than the most advanced American satellites, which have similar capabilities but weigh at least three tons, he told Army Radio.
Ofek-7 was launched 310 miles into the sky from an air force base at Palmachim, south of Tel Aviv, Army Radio said.
Though the U.S. has its own spy satellites, Ben-Israel said it was in the interest of both Israel and the U.S. to exchange intelligence. "There is no country in the world, not us and not the Americans, that is able to obtain everything alone," he told Army Radio.
"If you have something that they don't have and if they have something that you don't have, you make an exchange."
The satellite can view objects as small as 28 inches long, Army Radio said. But Ben-Israel said the resolution was even better, saying the objects it can discern are "a few dozen centimeters" long.
The Ofek-7 uses optical technology, meaning its viewing ability is limited by clouds and nonexistent at night, Shapir said. By 2010 Israel is expected to launch another spy satellite with radar technology that will overcome these limitations, he said.
Ofek-5 and Ofek-7 are the only two Israeli spy satellites, Army Radio said. Israel also has two commercial satellites.

Two top secret National Reconnaissance Office/Navy ocean surveillance spacecraft to track terrorist movements at sea are being readied for launch from Cape Canaveral June 14.
The government will discuss the launch and satellite mission only generally, but details gleaned from intelligence sources were reported April 30 in Aviation Week & Space Technology.
Liftoff from Cape Canaveral's Launch Complex 41 is planned between 11:18 a.m. and noon EDT on board a nearly 200-ft.-tall U.S. Air Force Atlas V Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle.
The rocket was scheduled be rolled to the launch pad late June 13. The loading of tons of kerosene and liquid oxygen and hydrogen propellants will begin early June 14.
There is a 70% chance weather for the launch will be favorable, according to the Air Forceýýýs 45th Space Wing, which is managing the launch in connection with Lockheed Martin and United Launch Alliance.
One unusual aspect of this secret U.S. military flight is that the Atlas V is powered by Russian RD-180 engines designed during the Cold War.
The importance of NRO's ocean surveillance role, which it coordinates with the Navy and Coast Guard, has been elevated since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. And it is likely that Air Force fighters will fly patrols near the launch site to guard against any airborne terrorist attacks on the mission itself. Air Force F-22s were used for the first time for protection of the space shuttle prior to its launch June 8.
The need to track thousands of civilian ships worldwide has intensified given the potential for seemingly harmless shipping to be involved in nuclear, chemical or biological terrorist operations. Also, potential adversaries like China and Iran are demonstrating new sea-based tactics and capabilities that must be monitored.
The National Ocean Surveillance System (NOSS) flight, designated NRO L-30 will track such terrorist operations at sea as well as provide data on Chinese and Iranian ship tactics. Although classified top secret, the mission insignia is painted several feet tall on the Atlas V nose shroud. It shows a 19th century clipper ship under full sail viewed from above, as a satellite would see it.
The two satellites on the Atlas V mission have a combined mass of about 6.5 tons and will use primarily electronic intelligence (elint) techniques combined with interferometery. The technique involves comparing the differences in the elint data from each spacecraft to derive accurate position and direction of travel data.
The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., plays a key role in the mission. The spacecraft and launcher combined have a total cost of $600-800 million.
The satellites will fly in formation in an elliptical orbit that is precisely controlled to obtain data at different times as they overfly specific ships, so that the vessels movements can be detected and tracked.
Those data will then be combined with information from about 18 other NRO ocean surveillance satellites spaced in six or seven formations orbiting the globe.
After liftoff, the Atlas V will fly a trajectory northward along the U.S. East Coast. Viewers as far north as the Virginia coast should be able to see the Atlas V rocket plumes if weather conditions are favorable in their areas. |

Russian computers controlling the International Space Station's (ISS) orientation and supply of oxygen and water have failed, Nasa officials say.
The station's three crew and seven visiting shuttle astronauts are not at any immediate risk; the ISS has not lost all vital systems.
But it could force Nasa to extend the current shuttle mission by one day.
Engineers are unsure why the computers stopped working as a failure of this type has not occurred before.
The US space shuttle Atlantis docked with the orbiting outpost at the weekend to begin its latest mission.
Nasa's space station chief said he expected the problem to be fixed within the next few days.
"We have plenty of resources, so we have plenty of time to sort this out," said Mike Suffredini, ISS programme manager for the US space agency.
Without the Russian oxygen machine running, the space station has a 56-day supply of oxygen left. "If we are in that position, we have an option to depart," Mr Suffredini said.
Different scenarios
The station's Russian segment has a network of six computers, but on Wednesday, only two were functioning.
The computers have experienced problems before, but a system-wide re-boot usually solved the problem.
This time, the system has been unable to re-boot.

Under a worst-case scenario, where the computer problem persists beyond the shuttle's stay, and attempts to resolve it come to no avail, the station's three crew members could be forced to return to Earth early, the website Space.com reported.
The ISS is currently relying on its four gyroscopes to maintain its orientation in space, then shifting to using thrusters aboard the shuttle Atlantis when the gyroscopes are overwhelmed.
This dependency on the shuttle has caused Nasa managers to consider an extension of one day to Atlantis' 13-day mission.
If this goes ahead, the crew will have to conserve supplies - the shuttle mission has already been extended by two days in order to carry out repairs on a torn thermal blanket.
The crew of space shuttle Atlantis were originally due to spend 11 days at the ISS.
The mission was extended to 13 days in order to carry out repairs on a 10cm (4in) section of thermal blanket which peeled back as the shuttle blasted off from Cape Canaveral on Friday.
The blanket protects the shuttle from the intense heat of re-entering the atmosphere.

The two cosmonauts on the International Space Station (ISS) shut down the computers on the Russian side of the orbiting facility June 14, deferring by a day work to restore critical command and navigation systems that crashed June 13.
Loss of the Russian-side computers, which actually were built in Western Europe, could force an evacuation of the station, although managers considered that unlikely and certainly undesirable.
"We're always in a better [configuration] if we can keep the crew around to help us out," said Mike Suffredini, NASA's ISS program manager.
The Russian computers control the station's reaction control thrusters, which are needed for attitude control when the station's control moment gyros (CMGs) are saturated or otherwise unable to perform as needed. As long as space shuttle Atlantis is docked to the station, its thrusters can maintain attitude when the CMGs are unavailable, but the orbiter must land late next week when its supply of cryogenic oxygen for its fuel cells gets low.
Mission Control Center-Moscow (MCC-M) managed to restart one "lane" of the three data paths to the Russian Service Module Terminal Computer (TVM) and to the Russian central computer early June 14 while the station was in line with ground stations on Russian territory. With the computers up, controllers reconfigured station circuits to route power from the U.S. arrays into the underpowered Russian Zarya and Zvezda modules, and restarted critical life support units in the modules.
They also were able to put the three-seat Soyuz capsule that serves as the lifeboat for the full-time station crew back on station power, after running it on batteries overnight to conserve Russian-side power.
But after seven minutes the computers crashed again, and subsequent efforts to restart them came to naught. At about 1:15 p.m. EDT June 14, MCC-M ordered Expedition 15 commander Fyodor Yurchikhin and Flight Engineer Oleg Kotov to switch off the computers for the day.
William Gerstenmaier, associate administrator for space operations, said it will take some time to complete troubleshooting and fix the problem, given the complexity of the station and the difficulty of finding a problem that may be due to some unforeseen interaction between U.S. and Russian systems. Possibilities include power quality from the new S4 solar array being activated during the ongoing STS-117 mission, electromagnetic interference from a new local area network cable strung outside the Zarya module during a June 6 spacewalk, or some sort of software anomaly.
In addition to troubleshooting, experts in Houston and Moscow were working on alternate ways to maintain station attitude control once Atlantis leaves. One promising approach would use the CMGs as much as possible, and the thrusters on docked Russian Progress cargo vehicles when they become saturated.
"I would say there is an extremely remote chance that this problem would lead to abandoning the space station," Gerstenmaier said. Still, shuttle mission managers were considering the option of extending Atlantis' stay at the station as long as possible, while the flight crew was cutting off unneeded systems to conserve power and consumables. |

Problems dogging a mission to the International Space Station have been eased following a space walk and a computer reboot.
A third spacewalk by astronauts on the shuttle Atlantis has fixed a tear in its thermal blanket that occurred during lift off.
And Russian cosmonauts have now successfully rebooted vital ISS computer systems that had crashed.
The systems control the station's positioning and its oxygen supply.
While the system was down, the ISS was relying on its four gyroscopes to maintain its orientation.
Lynette Madison, a Nasa spokeswoman in Houston, said the computers were "up and operational and this is good news for all".
Russian Mission Control chief Vladimir Solovyov said engineers had to disconnect the Russian oxygen-generating system, called Elektron, during repairs as it is dependent on the faulty computers. The lives of the crew were not in danger.
Russian space officials had said they were considering sending their cargo vessel Progress to the ISS earlier than scheduled to deliver spare parts for the computers if the problems persisted.

Meanwhile Atlantis crew members Jim Reilly and Danny Olivas embarked on the mission's third spacewalk.

The astronauts used a medical stapler to seal a gap about the size of a human hand between sections of thermal insulation.
The blanket section had peeled back as the shuttle blasted off from Cape Canaveral on Friday.
The blanket protects the shuttle from the intense heat of re-entering the atmosphere.
Damage to the shuttle Columbia in 2003 during its launch led to the vehicle's disintegration as it returned to Earth, killing all seven crew.
The crew of Atlantis were originally due to spend 11 days at the ISS, but the mission has since been extended to 13 to carry out the thermal shield repairs.
This was supposed to be the second shuttle mission of 2007, but a freak storm over the Florida launch site in late February caused hail damage to the shuttle and delayed the mid-March flight.
Despite the delays, managers are confident they will be able to complete the ISS before the shuttles' 2010 retirement date.
Nasa plans to fly 15 more missions to the station to deliver large components, spare parts and other supplies. In addition, one final servicing call to the Hubble Space Telescope is planned for September 2008. |

A spheroid Soviet-era space capsule has been sold for 72,000 euros ($96,000; £48,600) at an auction house in the French capital, Paris.
The Photon capsule spent two weeks on a scientific mission in space. The exact dates it was in flight are not known.
The spacecraft measures 2.7m (8ft, 10in) in height and has a diameter of 1.6m (5ft, 4in).

Perfect' Ofek 7 already almost fully operational

Ofek 7, the new IDF satellite launched on Sunday night, began transmitting images back to Israel on Thursday.
Senior defense officials said the satellite would break a world record and be declared operational by the end of the week.
Israel's most advanced satellite, Ofek 7 orbits the Earth every 90 minutes from altitudes of up to 600 kilometers.
It has a projected four-year life span and joins the Ofek 5, launched in 2002, which is expected to stop working by the end of the year.
Security officials said all of Ofek 7's systems were functioning as planned and that Israel was pleased with the results thus far. The officials would not discuss the quality of the pictures being transmitted because of the secret nature of the contents.
Lt.-Col. Y., commander of the satellite command and control center, said Ofek 7's high-resolution images increased Israel's operational capabilities.
He said that the satellite's systems were working perfectly and that it would be possible to declare it operational by the end of the week. A satellite is usually declared operational after a month of tests.
