Promenade Hotel Tawau
Masidi was met after he witnessed the signing of a Management Agreement for the Promenade Hotel Tawau, an 18-storey 4-star hotel currently under construction in Tawau, between the developer Sabah Urban Development Corporation Sdn Bhd through its wholly-owned subsidiary Perusahaan Pusaka Timur Sdn Bhd (PPT) and Promenade Hotel Sdn Bhd, held at the Promenade Hotel, here, Thursday.
Also present were Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) Chairman Datuk Mohd Lan Allani, Industrial Ministry Permanent Secretary Ismail Abdullah, Sedco Group General Manager Maisuri Besri, SUDC Managing Director Haji Abu Bakar M Yahya, Promenade Hotel Managing Director Kong Hock Sian and Promenade Hotel General Manager Alex Cham, among others.
The 180-room hotel, the biggest hotel in the district which is already about 65 per cent completed, is part of an integrated development comprising residential, commercial and hotel elements located about 1.5km from the Tawau town centre. The first element of the integrated development is the Kuhara Court condominium project that comprises 182 residential units located adjacent to the shopping complex and completed in December 2004.
The second is the Eastern Plaza shopping centre, which is the first of its kind in Tawau, consisting of a supermarket, departmental store, food court, an 18-lane bowling alley, amusement centre and cineplexes. This complex comes with 572 car parks and the occupation certificate is being expected soon.
The proposed Kuhara hotel development adjoining the Eastern Plaza and sharing eight-floor levels with the shopping mall will be the largest hotel in Tawau, offering from Superior-standard rooms up to Executive and Presidential Suites, as well as a coffee house, a deli corner, a fun pub and a lobby lounge.
Also, there will be a ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,300 persons (banquet style capacity) and 3,000 persons (theatre style capacity) - set to be the biggest ballroom in Sabah with a high ceiling and without pillars - and three meeting rooms.
Other facilities include a business centre, a club floor lounge with a private check-in and check-out counter, plus a business centre, a gymnasium (the biggest in Tawau) and a health centre.
The whole Kuhara Point Development costs RM255 million, with Kuhara Hotel GDV tagged at RM60 million. The hotel is expected to be completed by end of this year.
Commending the contribution made by SUDC and Promenade Hotel in assisting the State Government's effort to reduce the current shortage of hotel rooms in the State, Masidi said the hotel will boost the tourism industry in the East Coast particularly in the district.
"This hotel development augurs well with our aggressive effort to promote the East Coast as a popular tourism destination in the State," he said.
