Question1: Kindly be informed that t-shirts are subjected to 10% salestax.
The tax/duty is imposed if the item imported falls under ataxable category, this does not take into account the weightmeasurement.
Question 2: In accordance to Item 172Customs Duties (Exemption) Order 1988 and Item 90 Sales Tax (Exemption) Order2008, any person importing goods except cigarettes, tobacco and intoxicatingliquor, using air courier service and the value of the goods not exceedingRM500.00 per consignment (CIF) are exempted from duty/tax. These exemptions aresubject to the value of the goods being accepted by the assessment officer. You can always refer to theassessment officer at the entry point for further information on this matter.

DearUPS,This is my second time writing in regarding my issue (1ZW9V349D902490286).On 23rd May 2011, UPS deliver my package and I’ve been asked to payRM85.96 for disbursement & duty fee. Firstly I was so surprise because I’vebeen using UPS as my shipping method for couple of years with the same sender,same goods, and approximately same amount as well, but I never been charge (TAX) before, not a singletime.
Thus, I called UPS immediately tofind out what happened. UPS customer service (03-77842311) told me that this isthe charges (TAX) from Malaysia Custom, and can’t explain why and what hadbeing charged.
UPS suggested me to waitfor Malaysia Custom call in, and they will explain to me. UPS also said will beinforming the related department. OK, I accepted and decided not to collect mypackage (1ZW9V349D902490286) at that time.
On today 24th May 2011, since I didn’treceived any call from Malaysia Custom, I decided to call them from myside. I called Malaysia Custom callservice (03-78067200) and asked them regarding my issue; I’ve been informedthat the charged was based on what had UPS declare to them.
For example, goods declare below RM500.00 per consignment (CIF) are exempted from duty/tax, but abovethat amount, it will be charge accordingly. Question now, why my goods beencharged but only with total amount included shipping fees (UPS) GBP83.00 equal approximately RM420. Malaysia Custom answered that most probably UPS had declared more thanthat amount when importing my goods, therefore it have to be Tax. MalaysiaCustom now suggested me to call UPS for asking the ‘Custom Form 1’ which isincluded all the items and amount being declared by UPS. They have no idea about the declaration.
I was so frustrated and no choicesbut call UPS again to find out my answer. UPS customer services seem to be perfunctory and having no idea aboutthis (Custom Form 1). Lastly, they just took my Fax no and told me that myissue will be process ASAP. Is this the only answer??
AllI need is only to find out why and what has UPS declare to Malaysia Custom, andmakes Malaysia Custom charged the TAX (Rm85.96) into my package. Is theshipping fees (GBP18.55) that I paid early didn’t include or cover insuranceand all logistic usage??? Or UPS has charged others extra and makes my packagebecame more than RM500 in value??? If so, do I have the right to know???
