Selangor consistently records the highest total number of fatal car accidents and road traffic deaths in Malaysia due to its massive population, high vehicle density, and extensive highway networks.
While Selangor leads in absolute numbers, statistical analysis of fatal accident rates per capita highlights a slightly different picture across the country:
Highest Absolute Fatalities: Selangor tops the nationwide figures for the highest raw number of accident fatalities, regularly followed by Johor and Perak.
Highest Fatality Rate Per Capita: When adjusted for population size, smaller or densely populated states like Penang and Perlis frequently record the worst traffic death rates per 100,000 residents.
Deadliest District: At the municipal/district level, the Kuala Muda district in Kedah has been previously singled out by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) as a highly problematic "black spot" for fatal accidents.
Road User Breakdown: Nationally, motorcyclists account for the largest share of road fatalities
