Opportunity in Research Assistantship and Graduate Assistantship in Climate Research (UKM).
The global temperature has warmed significantly over the past few decades. The changing may have accelerated global hydro-cycle and promoted more climate and weather extremes over various parts of the world. These changes can have serious and damaging effect to the human society and infrastructure as well as on ecosystems and wildlife. Today, the climate related sciences have become the priority of the nation’s scientific agenda. In UKM, climate science has been identified as one of the six most important research niches. Research group headed by Prof. Fredolin Tangang from Climate and Ocean Analysis Laboratory (COAL) is taking the lead in promoting fundamental researches related to the science of climate change.
COAL is currently providing opportunities to young and energetic individuals to be part of our research troop in solving various unanswered scientific puzzles related to our multifaceted climate system. These include but not least:
• Future climate projections for Malaysia regions
• Behavior of climate and weather extremes
• Weather predictions
• Ocean-Atmosphere interaction and modeling
• Climate and weather data processing
We are providing RA/GRA-ship to qualified candidates. The RA/GRA-ship will cover fully, your monthly allowances (RM1200 – RM1600) and your MSc./PhD semester fees.
Preferably, the candidates should have following qualifications:-
• A team worker and a fast learner.
• Good knowledge in mathematic and statistic.
• Knowledge in UNIX and computing programming is an added advantage.
• Keen interests in climate and weather phenomenon.

Opportunity in Air Pollution Research (UKM).
The haze episode in Malaysia has become a routine phenomenon. The degradation of our air quality is not only seriously affecting human’s health but also significantly damaging our ecosystem and wildlife. Give that the pollution transport is greatly influent by the turbulence of the atmospheric flow, predicting the air quality remains as one of the most challenging scientific problem.
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates to pursue their MSc/PhD working on building useful statistical forecasting models for the air quality in Malaysia. Successful candidates are eligible to full coverage of semester fees as well as monthly allowances of RM1200-RM1600. (depending on the qualification).
Requirement:
• Good knowledge in statistical modeling
• Knowledge in computer programming is an added advantage.
• BSc. qualified from recognized IPT.
• Independent, self-learner and dedicated.
