看起来, 地方忙大的。每天经过那里, 也不懂中央的大厦是做什么用途 - 是商业或是办公楼?建筑管理是比较输, 可以看到建筑工友大多数是没有戴安全帽的。

P/S: 我也每天经过那里,那么版主和我可能住同一区。搞不好可能住我隔壁.

座落在中间的那栋大楼是商场+办公室(如没记错),不过它的店屋设计方面有些与众不同咯,其特点就是在走廊上盖有屋顶遮住,使购物者在逛街时不必担心下雨。

p/s:也许我们每天都在碰面,当然只是“擦肩而过” ,但并不知道对面的那个人就是网络上的你。

陈康南:联邦批2亿贷款 供砂推行4大工程

    (本报古晋24日讯)本州副首长兼工业发展部长拿督巴丁宜陈康南医生透露,在第9大马计划下,联邦政府已批准发出1亿9700万令吉贷款予本州来推行4项工程。

    他称,上述4项工程计有三马拉汉科技公园,沙玛再也蓄水塔,三马拉汉工业区(扩展)及打必禄工业区第一期及第二阶段工程,它们各别斥资8000万令吉、1700万令吉、5000万令吉及5000万令吉,总共是1亿9700万令吉。

    他指出,联邦政府已批准发出8000万令吉贷款来实行科技公园建造工程,这个公园是充作生物科技领域研究与发展用途。

第9大马计划进行

    就沙玛再也自由工业区蓄水塔建造工程,他称,目前政府已决定这项工程是直接由古晋水务局推行,工业发展部将会扮演协调者角色。

    “针对三马拉汉工业区及打必禄工业区这2项工程,一旦绘图工作已完成之后,招标行动将会随之进行。”

    此外,本州政府也受到要求,以在加拿凂,马鲁帝及砂拉卓这3个地方设立工业区。“目前,我们正在研究在这些地方设立工业区可行性。若有需要,这些要求将会呈交到中期检讨会,以让政府作出考量及批准。”

研究小镇工业区需求

    他称,目前,该部正在视察小市镇对工业区之需求,并且通过各种管道来探讨让更多私人公司参与某些特定工业区的发展。“我们的政策明朗易懂,我们不会与私人界竞争,而是要辅助它们。”

    他也透露,在2006年,本州政府已发出1400万令吉拨款充作工业区发展用途,已耗用的款额是1397万9000令吉或占了拨款总额的99.8巴仙。

    在2007年,工业发展部获得本州政府拨予104万令吉,联邦政府却批准发出4500万令吉贷款充作相同用途。

8计划已完成

    他也透露,在第八大马计划下实行的8项工程皆已完成,总共斥资3亿1000万令吉。

黄顺舸:借鉴柏斯会议局经验 砂会展中心09年竣工

    (本报古晋24日讯)城市发展与旅游部长兼第二财政部长拿督斯里黄顺舸表示,砂拉越会议局有许多方面需要向柏斯会议局学习,因为该局经已拥有35年的历史,因此是砂会议局取经的好对象。

    拿督斯里黄顺舸是今日出席并见证砂会议局与柏斯会议局进行备忘录签署仪式后,向记者讲话时如是指出。

晋会议局1年前成立

    他说,虽然古晋在1年前刚成立会议局,不过有时后者倒是能够获得更多的机会,因为一旦主办当局在同样地点举行过多次的会议后,往往都会寻求新的会议场地。

    因此,他坚信砂会议局的成立将能够为主办当局提供全新的地点,让该局有机会从中获得发展。

    “砂州会展中心将在2009年才竣工,而在该会展中心隔壁将会建设一所5星级的酒店,目前一切正在施工当中。”

争取重开直飞柏斯航线

    同时,他指出,柏斯是个非常不错的地方,不过非常可惜古晋直飞柏斯的国际航班经已被取消。

    不过,该部门经已向有关航空公司作出要求,希望在重新安排航线方面,可以为古晋提供直飞柏斯、澳洲等地的国际航线,以便促进本州的旅游业。

拥星级酒店条件有利

    另一方面,柏斯会议局执行主席葛拉汉慕依亦表示,古晋将会建设庞大的砂会议与展览中心,相信砂会议局届时将得到很大的成就,而柏斯会议局作为合作伙伴,将会给予一定的协助。

    “古晋拥有许多星级酒店,这都是主办大型或国际会议中非常有利的条件。”

    另外,砂会议局首要执行员玖亨利则声称,柏斯会议局与砂会议局保持的合作关系将能够让双方互相分享相关方面的知识,同时分享彼此的经验。

    她指出,在2007年至2009年之间,砂会议局有可能在砂州举行大约50个会议,不过一切都能视当时的情况而定。

Stutong market comes with a waste treatment plant, and designed to minimise wetness

KUCHING: The new Stutong market in Tabuan Laru here is the first market in Sarawak to have a waste treatment plant built for the convenience of the people and betterment of the environment.


  
CALLING FOR TAKERS: Stutong Market is the first market in Sarawak to have a waste management plant, a facility provided for the convenience of the people and betterment of the environment.

The market has been designed to minimise wetness, a common problem in any market.This is to offer comfort and a conducive environment for both traders and customers.

However, hawkers and petty traders of Gambier Street Market, who have been given priority to apply for a spot there, are not taking up the offer fearing that their businesses will be affected should they move.

As reported in several local dailies they preferred to stay put at the 72-year-old market although the building is run-down, and pale in comparison with Stutong market.

Urusan Lengkap Sdn Bhd built the seven-acre market at a cost of RM13 and 15 million.

A company representative said the project, completed in April, had not been handed over to the Kuching City South Council (MBKS).

“We’re ready to hand over the project to MBKS as soon as the council is willing to accept it. But we’re patient because MBKS has to sort out the transfer of hawkers with Kuching City North Hall (DBKU),” he said.

He said the two-storey Stutong market could accommodate more than 500 stalls, and there had been a lot of enquiry from hawkers elsewhere. The government’s instruction however is to give priority to the Gambier Street market hawkers and petty traders.

Currently, there are some 140 stalls selling a variety of vegetables, fruits and semi-processed food at the Gambier Street Market.

“The market has ample stalls for licensees registered with DBKU and more than enough car parks for both stallholders and customers,” he said.

He said wastes from the market would be collected and grinded to turn them into sludge for further treatment, instead of being flushed down the drains and into the river, which was detrimental to the environment.

There would be minimal wetness on market floor as it was designed to regulate movement between wholesalers and sellers as transfer or circulation of produce often caused wetness in a market.

“We’ve done all we can - a market that the council can be proud of,” he pointed out.

He said the ground floor was divided into dry and wet sections.

“The dry section is for vegetables, while the wet section is for selling meat, poultry and fish. The first floor is to house food stalls and textile stalls from the Ban Hock wharf,” he revealed.

Meanwhile, attempts to obtain comments from MBKS and DBKU failed.

HSL to start RM600m project

KUCHING: Hock Seng Lee Bhd (HSL) will embark on its most ambitious high-end mixed development project – La Promenade.

With an estimated gross development value (GDV) of RM600mil, the project is an exclusive gated community in Sungai Kuap area, near Kuching International Airport.

Wholly-owned subsidiary Hock Seng Lee Construction Sdn Bhd will undertake the project, which will have more 1,000 houses, a commercial centre comprising 200 shophouses and office blocks, an international school and a clubhouse.

Executive director Yii Chee Sing told StarBiz the project was now in the detailed planning stage.

Yii said the company expected to start work early next year on another major mixed development project in Samariang Aman in Bandar Baru Samariang, Kuching where it was now building 642 houses.

“This project will comprise 220 shophouses, a seven-storey office block, a mall, a hypermarket and a food court. It will be implemented in three phases over three years,” he added.

On the multi-phased Samariang Baru residential development, he said the first 90 terrace houses had been delivered to buyers. Construction work is under way for 236 more units, which have been sold.  

Yii said the company’s two other ongoing residential developments were the Highfields (175 units) in Batu Kawa and Lavender Hills (64 units) at the 21.6km stretch of Jalan Kuching-Serian.

The company is set to launch its first housing project outside Kuching – Vista Parade (39 units) in Sibu – later this year. It also plans to expand its property development to Miri and Bintulu.

Yii said HSL, which diversified into property development in 2000, was tapping into the segment of affordable units priced below RM200,000.

“Our signature product is the courtyard terrace which greatly enhances the ambience of single-storey houses by bringing light and ventilation into the centre of the home.”

Yii attributed the strong demand for HSL-built homes to its variety of innovative design choices.

远程旅游11月掀开新一页,古晋将首次迎来俄旅游团

  (古晋13日讯)本州将于今年11月份首次迎来大型俄罗斯旅游团前来古晋,势必为砂州远程旅游掀开新一页。

  这个约80人的俄罗斯旅行团将以包机的方式前来古晋进行长达两个星期的观光旅游。旅行团将入住马来西亚首间具有三温暖(SPA)设备齐全的达迈珊瑚渡假村。

  砂拉越旅游局首席执行员葛雷茜指出,俄罗斯旅游团讲求的是豪华的旅游配套,他们响往沙滩、阳光以及海洋,更重要的是被珊瑚渡假村的三温暖设备及便利所吸引而来。

  这个旅行团也将会在到来古晋之后,进行长屋之旅,同时也会前往新加坡进行数天的购物逗留等。

  这是她今日在一项与本报记者的访谈中所透露的消息。

  她说,达迈珊瑚渡假村目前花费3500万令吉充作改善及增加其渡假村的各项设备,包括增加三温暖(SPA)的设备,让游客具有至高无上的服务及享受空间。

  该渡假村的装修及设备提升工程目前正如火如荼的进行中,预料将于今年8月份完工,之后,就准备迎接宾客,其中一团大客便是11月间的俄罗斯旅行团。

  她说,一旦目前所出现的航班及班机衔接问题获得解决后,必定会迎来大批的国内外游客,所以相关领域,特别是酒店业必须做好准备,必要时提高酒店内的设备与服务。

应付晋汉省2030年食水需求 斥资3亿建文莪水库

    (本报古晋19日讯)政府即将展开耗资3亿1千万令吉的文莪水库工程,以在2030年每日提供2047百万公升的食水量供应,满足晋汉省之食水需求。

    砂第二策划与资源管理部长拿督斯里阿旺登雅表示,此座落在文莪区的工程计划预料将在今年开始动工,耗时40个月,工程中将兴建一座蓄水池及水坝。

    他指出,此项工程占地1560公顷,影响4个村庄即1304名村民及2所学校必须搬迁,而甘榜文莪将进行道路工程计划,影响38名村民。

4村庄2学校须搬迁

    部长今日在颁发文莪水库计划(进出口道路建设)土地赔偿金仪式上致词时称,政府在进行文莪水库工程计划中亦在甘榜文莪设立道路,这项工程耗资49万4000令吉并影响当地38名甘榜居民。

    他希望这项工程能尽快进行及完成,他说,此项计划的进行是势在必行的,以满足晋汉省日益增加的水供需求。他说,政府若不进行水库建设计划,将来晋汉省将面对水供短缺的问题。

    他说,预计到了2010年,晋汉省自砂拉越左手港抽取的水量供应达786百万公升,但届时的水供需求量达635百万公升,两者仅相差19%。

    而到了2030年,晋汉省预计需要2047百万公升的食水供应量,而文莪水库工程计划将有能力应付这项需求,不过,到了2030年后,政府必须另作出安排以满足日后的水供问题。

巴当艾太遥远

    他披露,政府在决定寻找另一地区作为食水供应时曾针对多个地段进行观察,当中包括了巴当艾,然而由于巴当艾路途遥远加上建设大水管方面耗资庞大,故此项建议被取消。

    他表示,较后政府在物色文莪地区,即上述4个村庄位址,发现该地区的地理环境十分适合予设立水库以储存水量满足古晋及三马拉汉拿的食水供应,解决日益增加的水量供应压力。

有望带动文莪发展

    另一方面,曼旺区国会议员占达沃在这之前表示,水供是人民的切身问题,在澳洲,水供成为该国争议的政治课题。他说,由于澳洲面对连续5年的干旱季节,该国的水库储水量仅维持在40%,因此,政府为了节制用水量而采取严厉治水的情况引起当地严重争议。

    对此,他表示,政府为了满足市民的水供需求而决定实行文莪水库计划,这项计划也将为甘榜文莪带来更大发展,同时也刺激当地的经济、设施与商业活动。

    他希望当地居民能把握时机,以通过地方上的发展计划获取更大了利益。

Analysts upbeat on Mudajaya prospects



The involvement of Mudajaya and Zelan in power plants augurs well for their future performance
  
CONSTRUCTION outfit Mudajaya Group Bhd's share price has jumped a whopping 214% since the beginning of this year, propelled mainly by its burgeoning order book and overseas prospects.

As at June, the company had total outstanding projects valued at about RM2.6bil, which should last another three to four years.

It has submitted bids for RM1.7bil worth of projects under the Ninth Malaysia Plan and has said that it is targeting infrastructure projects in the Middle East.  

The company said it had identified several potential overseas jobs involving the construction of power plants, water treatment facilities, roads and industrial complexes.  

At its AGM last month, managing director Ng Ying Loong said the company expected this year's financial performance to be driven mainly by local projects while overseas projects would contribute substantially starting next year.  

Currently, Mudajaya's overseas activities are concentrated in India, where it has established a joint venture with a local firm to build, operate and own a 1,400 MW power plant. The entire deal is worth some RM1.43bil.

The plant is expected to be completed earliest by 2010, after which the group will sell electricity in India.  

This will provide it with a long-term income stream.  

“We are upbeat on the prospects of Mudajaya and are expecting further upside from the Indian project, which will provide a much stronger upside for its 2008 financial year earnings,” a local brokerage said.

“Things would be much rosier once the plant is in operations,” it added.  

Furthermore, Mudajaya also has property business, focused in Sarawak. The company started developing the Batu Kawah township near Kuching city centre 10 years ago. The project has a gross development value of RM1.2bil, with an estimated completion date in 2015.

According to reports, the project currently contributes about RM70mil in sales annually.

Mudajaya recorded results that were within analysts’ expectations for its first quarter ended March 31. It posted a 19% growth in revenue to RM56.5mil from RM47.5mil in the same quarter last year. Margin increased year on year from 13.2% to 15.1%.  

On the whole, the company has performed quite consistently over the years. “Historically, the numbers don’t look bad. For a company of this size (its market capitalisation as at last Friday was RM676.19mil), it is doing well,” an analyst told StarBiz.

He said Mudajaya's prospects looked “promising.” “The company's independent power producer (IPP) project in India certainly bodes well for its future,” the analyst added.  

Another company which is aiming for a slice of the IPP pie is Zelan Bhd.  

“From a mere construction player, we have become a full-fledged engineering, procurement and commissioning (EPC) player,” group chief executive officer Chang Si Fock once told StarBiz.  

Of late, the company has indicated that it wants to be an IPP, apart from being involved in EPC works.

“Our target is that within this year we must start having ownership in IPPs,” Chang told reporters in May.  

To this end, Zelan has said that it was targeting to finalise an IPP deal in the current fiscal year ending Jan 31, 2008.  

It is in talks with IPPs in India, Indonesia and the Middle East for this purpose. Zelan is looking for opportunities in these countries as it is already actively involved in building power plants there.

This will provide the company with a recurring stream of income, minimising any cyclical effects the firm may suffer from its other business segments in case of downturns.

Zelan has four divisions, namely engineering and construction, IPP and investment, manufacturing and trading, and property development.  

In the company's latest annual report, it said it foresaw promising growth opportunities in the power area based on the forecast power demands in Asia.

The report noted that statistics from the International Energy Agency indicated that electricity demand from 2004 to 2030 was forecast to grow fastest in India and China while the Middle East would see above-average demand.

Additionally, it said, India, Indonesia and the Middle East would need to spend about US$26bil yearly over the next 25 years in power plant projects.  

As such, the group has reason to be optimistic in increasing its order book.  

With all this in the pipeline, the company expects recurring income from the IPP segment to contribute about 40% of its net profit in 2010 and beyond.  

For its EPC projects, Zelan has an order book of about RM4.7bil and has submitted bids worth RM10bil. The management has indicated that it was confident in securing the bids, although no specific targets were given.  

Meanwhile, the company also has plans to boost its property business, with plans for development in Bangkok and India as well as locally.  

On Friday, Zelan's shares closed flat at RM12 after touching a high of RM12.30. Year-to-date, Zelan shares have put on more than 100%.

Zecon gets another Matang Highway project

KUCHING: Zecon Bhd has secured a RM124mil (US$35.6mil) contract for the proposed extension project of the Matang Highway near here.

Chief executive officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the project would involve the construction of a 13.3km new dual carriageway leading to the proposed federal administrative centre in Matang.

When completed in 42 months, the project will see the highway extended closer to the city centre at Taman Matang Jaya.

Zainal said Zecon, an integrated construction and infrastructure firm, had completed nearly 60% of another stretch of 25km of the Matang highway which will link the proposed federal administrative centre to Bulatan Abang Kipli.

Zecon secured this earlier project worth RM314mil (US$90.2mil) in 2002.

"With this latest contract, Zecon’s order book has been brought to RM1.2bil (US$344.8mil)," said Zainal.

KUCHING: The Regional Development Corridor Plan which will be unveiled in October will ensure the State will achieve the objective of Vision 2020, much earlier than expected, said Chief Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud.

He said this to the media after officiating at the earthbreaking ceremony of Cats FM new radio station along Jalan Bako here yesterday.

"You have to look forward and say one thing. We have to make sure that we make a good start to the second wave of the politics of development and I want to assure the people I will do my very best. I will even squeezed my energy to make sure that we will achieve our vision 2020 as early as possible," he said.

He added that he will unveil the plan after he gets the consultant's draft report sometimes late october this year.

"Then, I will have a look at it and I will debate with the consultant and probably after that we will have what we call the regional development corridor plan that will bring us a much firmer ground of economic structure than we ever had before," he added.

Earlier in his speech, the Chief Minister said because Sarawak has its own percuilarity, it must have its own radio station like Cats FM to complement goverment's effort to transmit its policies to its people even to the remotest part of the State.

"The role of Cats FM will not be competiting against other established radion stations like RTM but it will play a complementary and supplementary role to provide accurate infomation to our people," he said.

He pointed out that radio was still very relevant to the people of Sarawak even though other forms of mass media such as satelite television, newspapers and the internet have reached the majority of the people.

Taib firmly believed that Cats FM role would be even more significant to ensure that all the policies of the government were transmitted to the people.

"We want to assure our people that we will bring development to all the nooks and corners of the State so that no one is let behind," he said.

The Chief Minister also stressed that the importance of national interest must be continously strenthened among the people as it would ensure the future survival of this country.

"As a young nation which is going to celebrate its 50th anniversary, we are still far behind from achieving our goals of a developed nation. Thus, it is  imperative for all the people to participate in the social, economic and politcal development of this counrty," he said.

In his speech, the chairman of Kristal Harta Sdn Bhd, which is the owner of Cats FM, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Bujang Mohd Nor said Cats FM's role would be strengthened with the completion of its own station in December this year.

"We plan to focus on four languages for our listerners in the future as we want to make sure that we will complement the role of RTM in Sarawak," he said.

Bujang Nor also disclaimed the perception that radio is a sunset industry.

In his speech, he also lambasted rumour mongers who have spread wild allegation about the health of the Chief Minister.

"These naughty people have bad intentions and their acts are very irresponsible," he said.

The RM12 million project will be a four-storey building which will boost the latest radio technology. It will also has an auditorium which has a seating capacity for 1, 000 people, a surau and a cafetria.

Among those present were the Chief Mniister's wife, Datuk Amar Puan Sri Hajah Laila Taib, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, Advisor of Global Upline, Tan Sri Ting Pek Kiing, Cats FM Executive Director Hanifah Taib-Alsree and Cats FM Chief Executive Officer Haji Affandi Tahir.

Rebuilding starts in Serian

Kuching: Global Upline Sdn Bhd has undertaken to rebuild two rows of double-storey shophouses starting today (Tuesday) which were razed in a June, 2007 fire.

Its advisor, Tan Sri Dato’ Paduka Ting Pek Kiing,  told reporters after the Chief Minister officiated the earth breaking ceremony of Cats Radio station in Petra Jaya yesterday afternoon that the project would  take three  months to complete.

He said construction of each shop would be estimated at a cost of RM200,000 and the total project would  cost RM3 million.

70 people were made homeless after the two wooden blocks of shops consisting of 14 shops constructed during colonial time were burnt to the ground.

There was no casualty. The shops were constructed in 1934.

14 owners and 13 tenants were affected by the incident.

Most of the shops were sundry shops besides discount store, boutique shops, hair saloons, mobile phone shops, aluminum shop, poultry feed shop, coffee shop and watch shop.

62-year-old Ahmad Nadong who operated a food stall at the Pasar Malam behind the shophouse spotted the fire and alert the occupants in the shop houses.

He asked his children and the others to help alerted the rest of the people staying in the shops.

The fire in Serian also sparked a controversy when the occupants of the shops alleged that the Fire and Rescue Services department there were slow in responding to their distress call.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan said he believed that Global Upline would be able to handle the project as they had done big projects before successfully.

Global Upline constructed the BDC interchange and the renovation of the KIA, among others.

东姑布特拉国际学校,昨由首长主持开幕

  (古晋17日讯)耗资将近2000万令吉的东姑布特拉国际学校,今天由首席部长丕显斯里泰益玛目主持开幕。

  原本是座落在凤梨路的东姑布特拉国际学校,基于人数的增加以及设备不完善,因此决定变迁到靠近州体育馆附近一块22依甲的地段。

  落成的新东姑布特拉国际学校,是一所一栋建筑物为一间课室的新设计学校。该校是在1997年开始在古晋凤梨路开课,当时全校人数只有138名,并开9班。不过至今该校从幼稚园到中学,总共有23个班级,学生人数为350人,而且是来自10个不同国家的学生。

  与此同时,报读该校的去年与今年新生人数,前后增长了30巴仙,即从去年的270人,增加到今年的350人。

  新东姑布特拉国际学校的整个兴建工程花费6个月,拥有37间全冷气设备的课室,每班的人数最多是26人,此外也拥有其他设备,包括音乐室、电脑室、多媒体礼堂等。

  另一方面,东姑布特拉国际学校董事兼日光(CMS)副集团董事经理赛阿末阿威在致词时说,东姑布特拉国际学校的设立是日光集团在古晋推动高素质国际教育方面,一个重要的起点。

  他指出,该集团不仅要为古晋市民提供高素质的教育也让国际学生有机会前来本州接受教育指导。

  他重申,日光集团将会继续维护社会责任,而协助东姑布特拉国际学校的日常运作开销。在这方面,日光集团每年将资助该学校的日常开销经费。

  他认为,东姑布特拉国际学校新校址是一所环境非常优美以及设备完善的国际学校,因此有信心可以在未来,为国家培育更多优秀的人才。

古晋节周六开锣,系列节目已陆续推出



  (古晋27日讯)一年一度的古晋节将於明晚正式开锣,为古晋市民增添了不少娱乐节目。

  一如既往,本年度古晋节庆典活动除了有市民所喜爱的美食节外,也包括了多项体育活动的举行,以及文娱活动的演出。

  2007年古晋节庆典活动已筹备就绪,众多活动於7月杪陆续上演,至到9月2日结束。今年度的古晋节也作出了一些改变,增添了不少新活动,包括可让青少年参与的活动。

  在去年,出席美食节的人数就达86万名之多,因此主办单位希望今年也能取得更好的突破。2007年古晋节庆典活动开幕礼定于8月3日举行,并将邀请联邦旅游部长拿督东姑安南前来主持。

  众多的2007年古晋节庆典活动将于本月中旬陆续推出,至到9月初为止。其中州首席部长丕显斯里泰益玛目,也将受邀观礼于8月4日所举行的古晋节大游行。

〖古晋节〗刘嘉敬:古晋节嘉年华会三重点,美食商展及文娱表演

  (古晋27日讯)2007年度古晋节嘉年华会,将于本月28日至8月19日,假浮罗岸民众会堂隆重登场。

  据古晋节嘉年华会总筹委主席刘嘉敬市议员指出,本年度的古晋节嘉年华会主要乃由三个部分组成,包括美食展、商展及夜间文娱表演。

  其中美食展共有80个摊位,主要售卖各民族传统佳肴美食。而夜间文娱晚会则将在民众会堂内所设的露天舞台举行,其中舞台旁则为商展地点。

  至于在美食节后段,也设有园艺展览,并售卖各种花种给有兴趣的公众。

  商展摊位134个

  本年度,参与商展展出的摊位共达134个,其中民众会堂二楼处内共有44个,而露天展出则有94个,主要展出本地或各种进口产品,如电器、家庭产品、冷气、中国手工艺品、农业产品、汽车、教育、金融及保险相关领域的产品等。

  当然,配合此古晋节嘉年华的举行,亦是古晋南市市政局环境与旅游小组副主席的刘嘉敬也披露,主办当局也备有各项可供儿童参与的比赛进行,其中如刷牙、填色、才艺及家庭亲子活动等,主要希望能藉此鼓励家长与孩子们能在此消磨时间并促进亲子关系。

  而一些与教育有关的活动,如亲子讲座、健康讲座等,也将于每个周末举行。

  另一方面,于古晋节嘉年华会开始当晚始,位于古晋砂拉越钩球场每晚7时正,也备有各项铜乐队表演,其中包括来自南市、北市、青统单位、圣约瑟铜乐队及圣特利莎等乐队的演出。

  本州副首长拿督巴丁宜丹斯里陈康南医生将受邀于8月6日晚7时45分,出席主持古晋节开幕礼。

  而其它如象棋赛、围棋、市长杯篮球赛及其它演出等,也纷纷于古晋节期间内陆续上演。

市区“绿肺”数目将增加,州政府计划建造更多公园及休闲设备

  (古晋27日讯)市区的“绿肺”数目将增加,州政府已计划在古晋及州内其他城镇建造更多的公园及休闲设备,以加强绿化城市环境,并为居民提供绿色的休闲场地。

  首席部长丕显斯里泰益玛目今日透露,政府拟在市区建造更多的公园,例如古晋市周遭,迄今已拥有许多大大小小的公园,这主要是为民众塑造绿化及适合休闲的环境。

  他认为,本州的市区环境绿化情况,是在其他许多国家地方所难以见到的,而外国游客也因而认为砂拉越是一个适合居住的地方。

  于今早主持了阿邦摩哈默阿戴宣誓就职为新任北市市长的仪式过后,首长受到记者访问时,针对城市绿化课题如是指出,他发现,在州图书馆范围的新公园,已日渐成为城市居民休闲场所之一,特别是在周日期间,更是人们喜欢休闲的去处。

  “这是一个很好的现象。许多城市居民经常都会到公园作休闲活动。但在这同时,我发现到靠近博物院的公园人数并没有增加的情况。”

  首长丕显斯里泰益玛目表示,本州目前已经成功的将古晋塑造成一个清洁、绿化及井井有条的城市,并且是一个令人向往的城市。

  目前城市拥有完善的基本建设,但问题是市民往往不了解他们是这些设备的受惠人。

  首长说,政府所建造的这些设备如公园、图书馆等必须获得良好的保管,人民必须持有高度的公德心。

  他很也高兴看到整体上的古晋是一个成功的城市,还荣获了许多的奖项等。

  他认为,所有市议会的行政管理所面对的最大困难是如何灌输市民使用及保护所建设的公物。

  矢言加强治理城市计划

  资深行政官员阿邦摩哈默阿戴对本身被委担任北市市政局新市长感到惊喜!

  阿邦摩哈默阿戴坦言,对于本身非受委情况,是感到意外及受宠若惊,而且是幸运之至。

  于今天在首长丕显斯里泰益玛目面前宣誓就职为新北市市长的仪式过后,受询及被委的感想时,这名现年61岁的新市长认为本身是幸运,而且感到惊讶。

  他称,古晋市是个模范城市,早已有一套良好的治理城市计划在实行了。

  基于此,他矢言将在这基础上继续加强工作的执行,确保北市管辖区的城市继续享有清洁卫生以及让市民住得舒适和感到引以为荣的城市。

《双子星号》邮轮抵古晋,大批游客下船来市区游览



  (古晋27日讯)丽星邮轮属下的《双子星号》,今日抵访古晋沈庆鸿码头,大批游客下船前来古晋市区游览。

  《双子星号》于1995年投入服务,排水量达1万9089吨,可运载788位乘客及470位船员。

  《双子星号》管理层也于今日上午邀请本地旅行社代表人和媒体上船观看,并听取简报,希望将来有更多国内外旅客乘坐邮轮,享受海阔天空之旅。

砂格戈为汶印铺电缆 砂或成区域网络接驳中心

    (本报古晋1日讯)为落实州政府提倡的“分享普遍通讯设施概念”,砂格戈(SACOFA)董事经理阿邦杰末表示,该公司将朝向2007年前完成建设400个电讯塔的目标。

    他称,砂州内目前已经有超过300个电讯塔,在为电讯及广播服务业者提供通讯网络服务。

铺设晋美海底电缆

    他说,该公司已经实行着一项由古晋连接至美里市的海底光纤电缆,全长达2700公里,并拥有高达2.5GPBS的容量。

    “我们也成功安置约1000公里及高达20GPBS容量的海底光纤电缆,从古晋连接至柔佛丰盛港。”

    砂格戈(SACOFA)通讯服务系统公司今午与砂拉越电力供应公司 (SESCO)进行基本设施合作签约仪式时,如此说道。

    身兼该公司首席执行员的他说,砂格戈公司最近也与汶莱电讯公司进行一项国际通讯合作的签署仪式。

与汶莱电讯合作

    “通过该项合作计划,砂格戈(SACOFA)公司提供海底光纤电缆,连接汶莱通讯。”

    此外,为了有效提倡本州的资讯及通讯科技基本设施,连接美里至实必丹(Sipitang)、沙巴至汶莱、林梦至老越的“婆罗州光纤电缆接驳站”的主要干线预料将在下星期竣工。

    同时,他透露,他们正计划与印尼电讯公司进行合作,通过打必禄及坤甸,连接古晋电讯至印尼加里曼丹,再到雅加达。

拟与印尼方面合作

    “如果该计划成功实行,从印尼连接砂拉越到马来西亚范围,我们将会是最大的网路通讯公司。”换句话说,砂拉越将会成为具潜能的网路接驳中心。

    他称,2002年3月开始州政府已著手进行地点收集,作为建设一站式的通讯系统的电讯塔。

    同时,砂格戈公司于2001年成立,被州政府指定负责所有电讯塔的管理工程。

    另一方面,砂电力供应公司董事经理丹斯里拿督阿兹胡仙相信,这次的合作将提供砂州最佳的通讯服务系统。

    身兼第二策划与资源管理部长的他说,砂格戈通讯服务系统公司在建设通讯塔提供电讯网络方面扮演非常重要的角色。

    砂格戈作为砂州主要的公用事业的通讯服务系统公司,今日的签署合作基本上已经达到双赢的局面。

    由于部长今日不克出席砂格戈通讯服务系统公司今午与砂拉越电力供应公司 (SESCO)进行基本通讯设施合作签约仪式,其讲稿由乡区发展部助理部长兼公用事业部助理部长拿督安布鲁伯里高代读。

首长促3地方议会协调合作 提升古晋市发展

    (本报古晋1日讯)古晋市的各大地方议会应相互合作,确保发展工作获得良好协调,以提升古晋的发展。

    砂首席部长丕显斯里泰益玛目指出,地方议会在必要时应共同展开跨越管辖区的发展工作,解决因管辖区的区分所造成发展上不便的问题。

    他称,古晋南市及北市市政局应该与巴达旺市议会保持合作,因为古晋的发展已经扩展到巴达旺市议会的范围。

克服辖区不同障碍

    他是今早出席假古晋独立广场举行的庆祝古晋升格为市19周年庆典活动上致词时,如是表示。

    他感激古晋南市与北市市政局的良好管辖方式,让古晋从小城市演变成为优良居住的大城市,并拥有5大特点,即清洁、翠绿与优美;拥有经济发展潜能、种族团结、及为面对现代化城市作准备的古晋市。

    他指出,上述5个特点是砂州其他地方政府所应注重的。

南北市可成典范

    他也表示,古晋南市与北市市政局可成为其他地方议会的典范,因为能够吸引外地的人民迁入古晋市居住。

    “起初,砂州以外的人对本州一个城市内拥有多个地方议会的管辖方式感到疑惑,但我却认为城市应该有不太大的管辖区,以便能够胜任管制地区。”

    他称,在古晋南市与北市市政局区分后,各自均获得良好的管辖范围及收入。

辖区不应太大

    此外,他表示,古晋已经面临蓬勃发展,因此地方议会也应积极的作出发展计划,并举例说,山都望及马当北部均是必须经过详细策划发展的新地区。

    另外,他也表示,古晋在面对蓬勃发展的趋势下,在未来20年必须进行更全面的发展策划,而且水源的管理、电源的管理、废弃物的管理等也应获得良好的处理。

联邦政府提供两亿贷款,改善公共运输服务

古晋15日讯)砂拉越商用车辆执照局今日与所有公共商业车辆业者举行对话,讲解即将推行的各项政策,同时听取业者所面对的问题。   

出席这项与砂商用车辆执照局对话的业者代表包括路线巴士公司、德士业者、包租车等。所探讨的问题主要有关公共车辆发展基金、重组本州包租车路线图以及更换超龄巴士车等。   

该局也邀请中小型企业银行、人民信托理事会代表等进行相关课题的讲解。   

这是该局主席法帝拉尤素今日于此一旅店与公共交通领域代表进行对话会后,在记者会上所说的。   

实际上,砂拉越商用车辆执照局主席法帝拉尤素指出,联邦政府已经通过中小型企业银行为国内公共交通提供2亿令吉的贷款,从而改善及提高国内的公共运输服务。   

在这项贷款上,他说,中小型企业银行也提供比一般借贷更低的利率。同时,允许个人(德士或包租车主)或是巴士公司申请。   

这项贷款主要是为那些车龄接近超龄的车主及巴士公司申请,充作更新他们的交通工具。   

他重申,今早的交流以及对话圆满的举行,所讨论的一些政策也获得业者的接纳。而在整个对话会上,霸王车问题是业者最为关心的课题,并希望当局能够给予解决。   

有鉴于此,他保证,在结合交通局以及警方等的下一次大型的对话会上,将会重点讨论这项问题。   

实际上,他重申,就霸王车抢摊的问题上,警方及陆路交通局应该行使权力展开取缔行动。   

另一方面,为了避免公共交通继续发生意外,他再次提醒巴士公司必须安排两位驾驶员共同负责驾驶长途的快车,从而让疲倦的司机可以替换驾驶。   

他是针对日前长途巴士发生意外有感而发,而实际上根据条例所有长途快车必须要有两为司机,而一位司机不允许持续驾驶超过6个小时。

New hotels sprouting up in Kuching city

THE hospitality industry continues to be one of the State’s economic mainstays and the heart and soul of the State capital.

Kuching City hosted most of the local and international conferences, meetings and seminars held in Sarawak, and is now internationally known for its annual World Rainforest Music Festival.

The conferences and the Festival have brought so many foreign visitors that at times, there are not enough hotels to go round.

Things, however, are expected to change for the better from next year. More new industry players mean more hotel rooms to cater for foreign tourists during a big event.

Towards this end, at least three new hotels (all four-star rated facilities) are expected to be operational in 2008, one each in 2009 and 2010.

Corporate and conference interests are believed to be the main driving force behind the frenetic development in the hospitality industry — thanks to the new Sarawak Convention and Exhibition Centre on the Kuching Isthmus east of Kuching City Centre.

Due to open end of 2009, the fully-integrated and state-of-the-art Sarawak Convention & Exhibition Centre occupies six hectares of land and will have a total floor area of 36,500sq metres.

The Centre’s pillar-free Great Hall has a capacity for 5,000 people. The Great Hall is flexible and may be reconfigured to suit different functions, exhibitions and events.

An adjacent meeting room capable of accommodating up to 1,600 persons will also be available.

When completed, the Centre will make Kuching an attractive venue for major national and regional conventions, expositions and trade shows, and boost the State’s efforts to tap the meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition (MICE) market.

Complementing the Centre will be a 428-room four-star hotel in the proposed Kuching Tower adjacent to the Centre.

Set to be the tallest building in Sarawak, Kuching Tower is within walking distance from the Centre, and the hotel will cater to delegates and visitors.

The hotel will provide discerning travellers with rooms of exquisite décor, exceptional dining facilities, and top service and hospitality.

The 33-storey Kuching Tower is owned by CMS Hotels Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad. The name of the hotel is yet to be decided. Construction is on-going and the hotel is expected to be operational in the first half of 2009.

Other major hotels are also coming up in Kuching city. One is the four star high-rise Novotel Interhill Kuching, scheduled to open in 2008. Accor Asia Pacific has been awarded the management contract.

According to hotel online news in December, 2005, Accor managing director, Michael Issenberg, said Novotel Interhill would offer very high standard of accommodation in an area that was beginning to enter Asia’s travel mainstream.

“The hotel is part of our growing network which includes the recently launched Novotel Clarke Quay Singapore and Novotel Hydro Majestic Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

The 23-storey hotel enjoys a prime location in the city centre, offering panoramic views of the city and the Sarawak River.

Novotel Interhill will be well positioned to cater to business and leisure travelers with increasing air services to Sarawak providing good connections from a number of major centres in Asia.

The 388-room hotel will play an important role in building Kuching’s tourism infrastructure by providing modern, stylish accommo-dation with one of the leading global brand names.

Rooms will include aspects of the latest ‘Novotion Room’ signature features such as a rotating desk, a flat screen television, glass curtain bathrooms and wooden floors, all re-designed to offer guests greater comfort and convenience.

The hotel will offer three Biz Executive Floors and a Biz Executive Lounge on the top floor with mezzanine and double storey ceiling.

There is also a business centre, a 1,500 square metres ballroom and six adjacent meeting rooms for between 40 and 300 pax each.

Dining and bar options will feature a speciality restaurant, lobby lounge and ‘The Square,’ Novotel’s innovative theme restaurant known for its interactive cooking experience.

Leisure facilities include a swimming pool, a Kid’s Club, a fitness centre and the first spa wellness centre in town.

A survey of the site found construction progressing well.

Global Upline Sdn Bhd is also coming up with two four-star hotels at Airport Road and Tabuan Road, also scheduled to complete next year.

To be named Four Points by Sheraton, the new hotel at the proposed 12-storey building at Airport Road is four-star rated with 360 rooms and to be managed by a well-known international hotel management.

The hotel will bring a lot of convenience to international tourists and business people as it is about three minutes drive from Kuching International Airport (KIA).

According to Global Upline advisor Tan Sri Datuk Ting Pek Kiing, the hotel will be operational before the end of August next year.

“This is one way to help boost our tourism industry. A lot of tourists have bypassed the State due to room shortage. We are anticipating many more tourists to Sarawak for future conferences and conventions.”

He said Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had been invited to officiate at the earth breaking on November 7.

Ting revealed Global Upline would also build another four-star, 220-room hotel at Tabuan Road, also scheduled to complete next year, but no name is given yet.

He said completion for the project might be later than the Four Points by Sheraton.

Both hotels will offer banquet facilities as well as rooms for conferences, seminar and meetings.

With the completion of the four new hotels, Kuching will have an additional 1,396 rooms by 2009.

Plaza Merdeka will be another icon in the heart of the city. Completion of the 13-storey complex housing a shopping mall and a 290-room hotel, is scheduled for mid-2010.

The complex is only a short distance from the Kuching Waterfront. Rakyat Elite Sdn Bhd is the developer while Times Metropolitan Sdn Bhd, the sales and leasing company.

According to Times Metropolitan Sdn Bhd director Aw Tai Hui, the hotel has yet to be named but it is going to be a three to four-star boutique business and tourist hotel from the 4th or 5th floor upwards.

“Definitely, the hotel will be there but we have not decided which group will manage it. We will find an internationally known group to take charge,” he said.

The hotel will feature designer interiors with state-of-the-art connectivity for the discerning business traveller and tourist.

It will be an integrated component of the complex, complementing the area to enhance its potential as a destination in the heart of the city.

Aw said there would be no banquet facilities but rooms mainly for meetings and seminars.

Presently, the existing four to five-star hotels in the city are Holiday Inn Kuching (four stars), Crowne Plaza Riverside Kuching (five stars), Hilton Kuching (five stars) and Merdeka Palace Hotel and Suits (five stars).

Together, these hotels offer 1,057 rooms — Holiday Inn Kuching (288), Crowne Plaza Riverside Kuching (241), Hilton Kuching (315) and Merkeka Palace Hotel & Suites (213).

The hotels are also members of Malaysian Hotel Association Sarawak Chapter (MHASC).

According to MHASC secretary Helen Voon, the association has 33 members throughout the State of which 17 are in Kuching.

She said members were mainly the three star and above hotels.

The 17 hotels in Kuching, including four resorts — Holiday Inn Resort Damai Beach, Damai Puri (formerly Holiday Inn Resort Damai Lagoon), Santubong Resort, Borneo Highlands Resort — can accommodate about 2,500 guests altogether.

Among the existing three-star hotels within the City Centre and members of MHASC are Hotel Grand Continental, Kingwood Inn, Regalis Court, Telang Usan Hotel, Rajah Court Hotel, Kuching Park Hotel and Harbour View Hotel.

Helen said monthly occupancy in the 17 hotels fluctuated.

According to her, in September, 10 member hotels registered 71 per cent occupancy rate.

“I have yet to receive the reports from the rest,” she said.

The 17 existing and another five new star-rated hotels will give Kuching 22 three to five-star hotels by 2010.

That is about 3,896 hotel rooms, not including other existing properties in the hospitality industry such as the one to two-star lodges and orchid hotels.

So far, the biggest hotel within the City Centre in terms of rooms is Hilton.

Most of these hotels also offer banquet facilities such as multi-purpose rooms and ballrooms for functions, conferences, meetings and receptions.
