KUALA LUMPUR: United Overseas Bank (M) Bhd (UOB Malaysia) is anticipating a 20% rise in total card spending volume for its premium credit-card holders over the next 12 months, with the key driver expected to be travel-related purchases. UOB Malaysia managing director of personal financial services Kevin Lam said that the spending patterns of the bank's wealthy cardholders over the past six months showed they spent the most on travel, with 17% of total spending going towards purchases of air tickets and hotel accommodation. A further 15% was on luxury products such as jewellery, watches and fashion, while 12% was on dining.
This was based on an analysis of cardholder data of customers with an annual income of RM300,000 from November 2011 to April 2012.“Almost one in every five ringgit spent on cards by wealthy consumers is travel-related. We expect this number to rise as the level of affluence in Malaysia increases and wealthy consumers travel more frequently in the coming years,” Lam said at the launch of the UOB Infinite credit card. UOB Infinite is the bank's most exclusive card product and is available strictly by invitation only to customers with an annual income of RM300,000 a year and above.
