1987 - 1988 : Worked as Legal Assistant in the firm of Messrs Anthony Ting & Co., Kuching, Sarawak.
1990 : Became a partner in the firm of Messrs Anthony Ting, Baru Bian & Co., Kuching, Sarawak.
1992 : Commenced practising under Messrs Baru Bian Advocates & Solicitors, Kuching, Sarawak, to this day.
• POLITICAL INVOLVEMENT
1987 : Admitted as ordinary member of Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS).
1989 – 1992 : Elected to the PBDS Youth Exco.
September 1991 : Stood as a candidate under PBDS (Opposition then) in Lawas and lost.
1992 – 1994 : Appointed as one of the Vice President of PBDS.
1995 – 2000 : Appointed the Publicity Chief of PBDS.
2000 & 2003 : Elected as a Supreme Council Member of PBDS.
(N.B- PBDS is now deregistered as a political party).
September 2004 : Stood as an Independent Candidate in the Ba’Kelalan By-election of September 2005, after the demise of the incumbent the late Dk Dr. Judson Sakai in the helicopter crash in July 2004, and lost by about 1300 votes.
May 2006 : Stood as SNAP candidate in Ba’Kelalan State Constituency in the Sarawak General Election and lost by 475 votes.
April 2008 : Joined People’s Justice Party Malaysia, or Parti KEADILAN Rakyat (PKR) as ordinary member. Appointed in November 2009 by the President as the Chairman of PKR, Sarawak. Appointed as member of PKR Political Bureau & Supreme Council.
• APPOINTMENT
March 2004 to February 2006 : Appointed as a Commission Member of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) by the then Minister Tan Sri Leo Moggie.
• MAIN AREA OF LEGAL PRACTICE
Native Customary Rights Land issues. At the moment the firm is handling one hundred over cases stretching the length and breath of Sarawak. We created the Landmark case in this area in the case of Nor ak Nyawai vs. Borneo Pulp Plantation Sdn Bhd & 2 Ors [2001], which was approved by the Federal Court in 2009 in the case of Madelli Bin Salleh. |
