Palm Oil Advances as Malaysian Exports Gain, Stockpiles Decline
By Pratik Parija
July 12 (Bloomberg) -- Palm oil advanced for a third day after shipments from Malaysia, the second-biggest producer, increased and stockpiles of the commodity dropped.
Futures for delivery in September rose 1.7 percent to 2,340 ringgit ($730) a metric ton on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange. The price climbed as high as 2,341 ringgit intraday.
Shipments from Malaysia gained 8.8 percent in the first 10 days of July, compared with the previous-month period, Societe Generale de Surveillance, an independent cargo surveyor, said today. A total of 460,343 tons were tracked, SGS said. Exports were 423,199 tons during the same period in June. Overseas sales climbed 9 percent in the first 10 days of the month, rival firm Intertek said July 10.
Palm oil stockpiles in Malaysia declined 7.1 percent in June from May. Inventory of the edible oil, used in food and biofuel, fell to 1,451,434 tons, the nation’s Palm Oil Board said today. Output rose 2.5 percent to 1,420,062 tons, while exports gained 5.5 percent to 1,440,884 tons
