Tiger Airways takes Delivery of New Airbus A320
Monday, 17 November 2008
Tiger Airways has expanded its Singapore fleet to 9 planes with the delivery of a new Airbus A320. The new plane provides even more capacity for Tiger Airways to take advantage of recent liberalisation between Malaysia and Singapore as well as other destinations. The airline launches services to the East Malaysian city of Kuching on 20 November 2008.
Rosalynn Tay, Managing Director of Tiger Airways Singapore said, “There is no doubt there is pent up demand for true low low fares across the Asia Pacific region. Due to Tiger Airways’ disciplined cost control, we are in the envious position to continuing growing our fleet and take advantage of these opportunities. This shiny new plane is a beacon to travelers everywhere that many more low low fares are on their way.”
To celebrate, Tiger Airways has extended its 1/3 off fares sale until 18 November.
Rosalynn Tay said, “We have had a huge response to our recent 1/3 off sale. It is obviously to travellers that a deal this good doesn’t come around everyday, so with 1/3 off our already low low fares a short break is only a click away. Passengers should also grab this opportunity to be the first to fly to Kuching with true low low fares on Tiger Airways. With our fantastic fares of Sin$29 all inclusive, there’s no reason to wait. Book now! ”
The Tiger Airways group has firm orders in place to grow its fleet to 72 Airbus aircraft over the next 7 years. The group fleet is now 13 A320 aircraft, 9 in Singapore and 4 in Australia.

Sarawak Expects More Tourists From Singapore Next Year
KUCHING, Nov 20 (Bernama) - Sarawak expects an influx of tourists from Singapore next year due to the availability of more direct flights between the two destinations.
State Urban Development and Tourism Minister Datuk Michael Manyin said Sarawak has projected a 30 percent increase in tourists arrival from the island republic next year.
"With four airlines flying from Singapore to Sarawak, we are targeting an increase of tourist arrivals to 53,000 by next year," he told reporters after welcoming passengers of Singapore low-cost carrier Tiger Airways at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) arrival hall here Thursday.
A total of 33,000 tourists came to Sarawak from Singapore last year out of a total tourist number of 4.3 million to the state.
Tiger Airways today became the fourth airline to launch a direct flight between Singapore and Kuching apart from the existing flights from SilkAir, Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia.
The Tiger Airways flight today, using Airbus A320 touched down at the Kuching International Airport at 3.50 pm with 158 passengers. It marked another milestone in the liberalisation of air travel between Sarawak and Singapore, Manyin said.
He said the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has been also directed to start tourism promotions in Singapore by next month.
"STB must make extra effort to market Sarawak to tourists in Singapore," he said, adding that STB had recently participated in the ITB Asia 2008, a trade show for the Asian travel market.
Manyin said seven million foreign tourists visited Singapore yearly and Sarawak aimed to take the advantage of promoting the state as a follow through second destination.
"Sarawak hopes to tape 10 percent of the seven million foreign tourists who visit Singapore but three percent will be good enough," he said.
Meanwhile, Managing Director of Tiger Airways Rosalynn Tay said the budget carrier is looking at the possibility of flying from Singapore to Miri.
"We have been given the permit and we are exploring the ways that we can do that. Now, we are in discussion but certainly it (the route) is in our radar screen," she said.
Tay said Tiger Airways was now offering 60,000 free seats - travellers only have to pay the airport charges and taxes between Singapore and Kuching.

More Tiger Airways flights between Singapore and Kuching
Monday, 5 January 2009
Tiger Airways has announced that, due to popular demand, it has added further flights between Singapore and Kuching during the upcoming Chinese New Year period. Between 21 January and 2 February 2009 a total of 20 extra flights will operate between the two cities.
Steve Burns, Chief Operating Officer for Tiger Aviation said:
“Since commencing daily Tiger Airways services to Kuching last month, we have been hugely impressed by the appetite for our famous low, low fares. In response to this, we are very pleased to be able to add further services on the route during the 2009 Chinese New Year
period. More Tiger Airways flights means more low fares, and more opportunities for family and friends to spend the Chinese New Year period together. Tourism will also get a boost from the increased visitor numbers to both Singapore and the Malaysian state of Sarawak”.
Tiger Airways began daily flights to Kuching on 20 November 2008, as part of a major increase in its services between Singapore and Malaysia. Singapore – Kota Kinabalu services are now also on sale, with flights commencing on 1 March 2009.
Steve Burns added:
“I expect these additional flights to be very popular, and I strongly encourage passengers to book early at www.tigerairways.com to avoid disappointment.”
