TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL DONATION
1。 Sleep well the night before donating.
2。 Eat regular meals the day before donating.
3。 No dieting in the previous 24 hours.
4。 Be sure to eat a good breakfast or lunch the day of your donation.
Drink 2 to 3 eight-ounce glasses of fluid before donating and in the first four hours afterwards. Water and juices are great. Avoid caffeine. A high fluid intake should continue for the next 2 to 3 days.
5。 Do not drink hot liquids, smoke, or chew gum 30 minutes prior to donating. This may falsely elevate your body temperature reading.
6。 No strenuous exercise immediately before or after donating.
7。 Be honest about your weight. The need to weigh at least 110lbs (45 KG). is set for your safety.
8. Wear comfortable, non-constrictive clothing. Short sleeves are best.
9. Relax, take a deep breath and have fun!

Will donating blood hurt?
Donating blood is not painful. It may feel like a slight pinch or sting when the needle is first inserted, but there is no pain during the donation. Think about how good you’ll feel knowing you’re helping save lives!

How much blood is taken?
One unit, which is a little less than a pint. Most healthy adults have about 10-12 pints of blood in their body.

How long will it take to replenish the pint?
Blood volume and plasma is replaced within 24 hours. Red cells need about 4 to 8 weeks for complete replacement. You can donate again in 56 days or 8 weeks.

Can I work out after I donate?
Donors should drink extra fluids and avoid strenuous exercise after donating. Avoid lifting heavy objects with your donation arm for about 4 or 5 hours after you donate.

What happens to my blood after I donate?
Every unit of whole blood goes through up to 12 tests to ensure patient safety. Your blood will be tested for ABO group (blood type) and Rh type (positive or negative). Blood is then screened for infectious diseases which include hepatitis, HIV, and syphilis.

Why should I give blood?
Because you never know when you or someone you know will need it.

•        Reality #1:
o        If only it were true. Although approximately 60% of the US population qualifies to donate blood, less than 5% of Americans actually do so. And the blood shortage in Central Virginia has gone on for almost three years now!

•        Myth #2:
o        It hurts.
•        Reality #2:
o        Okay, maybe it does---a little. Far less than getting ears pierced, though, and only briefly. Check out a real donor story to read about the actual donation experience from someone who's done it. And remember that donating blood hurts a lot less than having someone you care about need blood and not get it because it's not there.

•        Myth #3:
o        I don't have time.
•        Reality #3:
o        It doesn't take long: about 45 minutes in all from arrival to departure. And UVA, like most other large employers, allows employees to donate on company time. UVA Health System administration understands the importance of supporting the blood supply on which our patients depend, and encourages employees to take advantage of this. Ask your supervisor if you can take time from your workday to donate. If it's not convenient during a drive, make an appointment at our donor center (243-2999) to donate on some other day.

o        They ask embarrassing questions.
•        Reality #4:
o        Okay, some of the questions are personal, but they have to be. The screening personnel are very professional and are not judgmental. Their only goal is to ensure a safe blood supply for our patients and a safe donation experience for our donors.

•        Myth #5:
o        I might catch something from donating.
•        Reality #5:
o        In the United States, donations are drawn using sterile equipment that is disposed of after a single use, and the professionals who draw your blood wear sterile latex gloves that are disposed of immediately after use on a single patient. At no time will you come in contact with any piece of equipment or material that has had contact with someone else's blood or body fluids.

•        Myth #6:
o        I take medication, so I can't donate.
•        Reality #6:
o        Maybe you're right. Maybe you're not. Come to blood donation drive veneu and ask the nurse on duty there!!

•        Myth #7:
o        I'm too old.
o        I'm too young.
•        Reality #7:
o        There is no longer an upper age limit for donation. So long as you are healthy and weigh at least 45kg, you can continue to donate as a lifelong contribution to your community.
o        Maybe you are too young---if you're under 18. But once you turn 18, if you're healthy and weigh at least 45kg, you can make a real grown-up contribution to your community.

Misconception about Donating Blood
       
1. You wont feel drained or tired if you continue to drink fluids and have a good meal.

2. You can resume your normal activities after donating blood, though you are asked to refrain from exercise or heavy weight lifting for twelve hours after donation.

3. Donating blood will not leave you low of blood; in fact you will still have surplus blood after the donation.

4. If you choose to consume alcohol, you can on the next day.

5. While donating blood you will not feel any pain.

6. You will not faint or feel uncomfortable after donating blood. This is a common misconception.
       
7. You will not get AIDS if you donate blood.
       
8. Patients are just like donors - most of them have common blood types. Because your blood type is common, the demand for that type is greater than for rare types. So, even if your blood type is common there is still a requirement.

9. Blood donors donate blood and do not sell it.

来捐血前，睡足8小时，捐完血后，护士叫你躺着休息，你就别乱动，好好休息，再吃多一点，应该不会令你之后的两天都不行吧！！

地点：FOE 和 TAU CAFE 之间的空地.

988的DJ 会和大家玩一些小游戏及会有小礼物派出,希望大家可以出席支持.

你的血不够铁，应该是应为你吃不够红肉吧！你尝试看看这次捐血的前几天都吃红肉如：牛，羊，和猪肉。
