游戏规则是尽量保留原来的意思。

在过去的某个状况下设法完成某件事，可用 was/were able to （=managed to），但不可以用 could，could 用于表达过去的一般能力：
(Grammar in use - Raymond Murphy)
Jack was an excellent tennis player. He could beat anybody. (他有能力打败任何人）
But once he had a difficult game against Bob. Bob played very well, but in the end Jack was able to beat him. (在这一场比赛中......设法把对手打败了）

我看得出是用英文子写的，念来念去，但我还是不明白它到底什么意思。

其实我也看得有点糊涂，我猜应该是：
为什么当一个人不开心的时候就会要吃东西？
是不是当我们吃东西的时候人就会比较开心？

你应该要开心
因为不吃东西，你就会变得苗条，
那你就会开心了。

参考词典的定义：
Longman：                                                
send
to arrange for someone to go to a place such as a school, prison, or hospital and spend some time there
Cambridge:
send
to cause or order someone to go and do something

send 是派遣或送某人到某地的意思，安排或发出命令的人本身没跟着去。
不可能救护车到了现场不自己把伤者送去医院而是在现场安排别人送去吧？
用take比较适当，可是新马的学校都那么教，说了没几个人会接受。

...... 但是 by ambulance => by an ambulance，我觉得那个 a/an 非常非常重要，本地人从早犯到晚的错误......
因为这个基本语法几乎出现在每一个句子了，如果你一天说几百句英语，等于在犯几百个错误，如果解决了那个基本语法错误，一天就少犯几百个错误......

或许可以尝试这样理解，举个例子，a book 有两个意思：
1）a book = 一本书
2）a book = 书（单数，没指定那一本，任何一本）
例句：
1）I bought a book.
a book = 一本书
2）A book is made of paper.
A book = 书（单数）

第二句也可以用复数表达：
Books are made of paper.
books = 书（复数）

也就是说，单数的 book 不能单独出现：
I‘m reading book. => I'm reading a book.
That's interesting book. => That's an interesting book.
但可以由其他的定语取代：
That's the book I bought yesterday.
Have you seen my book?

OK，有时真的会漏掉。。
an是看下个字的发声是不是a, e, i, o, u。。
未必是看第一个字是不是a, e, i, o, u。。
例如：an honest man，an honor，a university。。
对吧？
还有什么例子？

另外为什么不是a book is made of papers？
