Nazri: Don’t be too harshKUALA LUMPUR: The new MPs who did not submit their questions to Parliament in time for its new session could have overlooked the requirement, said Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said Malaysians should not be too harsh on them, adding: “I believe they did not do it on purpose.”
He said that on the Barisan Nasional side, the four former ministers and two former deputy ministers who failed to submit their questions were more used to replying to questions and not filing queries.
“This is clearly different from what they are used to do before. For the new MPs, I am sure it was not because they don’t want to send in their questions but it’s an oversight on their part. We should not be too harsh on them.
“I’m sure they will not let this happen in the next Parliament meeting,” said Nazri, who is the minister-in-charge of Parliament affairs.
He also ticked off MPs who said they did not know about the deadline and blamed it on Parliament staff for not informing them.
Pointing out that their accusation was unfair, Nazri said: “If you give that as an excuse, how come other MPs know about it and they filed their questions on time?”
Newly-elected Backbenchers Club chairman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said MPs should know that it was their duty to submit their questions to Parliament.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek chided the “errant” MPs, saying: “What’s the point of having Parliament proceedings broadcast live over television when even some outspoken MPs do not submit their questions?”
It was reported that the Cabinet had approved the live telecast of the proceedings – during question time – to be shown from 10am to 10.30am every day. There will not be censorship in the telecast.
