JUAN MATA has been quick to thank Fernando Torres for helping to make him a champion.

Torres convinced Mata, 24, to join Chelsea from Valencia last summer in a £23.5million switch.

And midfielder Mata, who starred against Bayern Munich in the dramatic victory that landed the European Cup, said: “It’s hard to put into words what Fernando has done for me here.

“He was the  fundamental reason I came. He told me I would love it here, that I’d enjoy English football and so because of him I came.

“Since I arrived, he has helped me with everything. He gave me his car and let me stay in his house. Everything. I still don’t know how I can thank him for all he has done.

“That’s why I am very happy when he scores and when he plays at his best because he deserves it.”

Arjen Robben has thanked Dutch fans for their support, claiming he has "never had a week like this" before.

The winger was booed by supporters of his club side, Bayern Munich, when the German giants faced Netherlands in a friendly last week. Bayern fans were unhappy with the 28-year-old's extra-time penalty miss in their eventual shootout defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League final.
Robben has received positive words from a number of his footballing colleagues, and after Netherlands' 2-1 friendly defeat to Bulgaria on Saturday, the former Real Madrid man also thanked fans from his homeland.

"I want to thank the Dutch supporters [for a standing ovation]. It's fantastic to receive so much support. I never had a week like this; it was very hard but that's the life of a professional athlete," Robben told SBS.

"Sometimes everyone thinks you're a p***k and sometimes you're a hero. Last week, I was a p***k. But I will be there on June 9 [for Netherlands' Euro 2012 opener with Denmark], I can assure you."

Netherlands are next in action when they face Slovakia in another friendly on Wednesday.
