Although in many countries around the world firearms laws allow for the personal ownership of paintball markers, in Singapore their possession for personal use is illegal. Local fields must be licensed by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) to possess and store paintball markers under very strict conditions. Their sale to individuals is prohibited in Singapore. Generally all other paintball equipment including clothing, safety equipment and accessories is legal but as the sport is still in its early days of growth, it is advisable to ask your local field operator or paintball equipment distributor about local laws.

Local tournament and paintball players have made their own arrangements with field operators, friends and store owners from neighbouring countries like Malaysia and Indonesia to purchase and store personal markers outside of Singapore so that they may compete in international paintball events.

Currently local law also prohibits recreational or competitive paintball being played without a centre-line (this is to ensure no player contact). At Red Dynasty, the only local field with speedball facilities, players are required to undergo a Basic Theory Orientation test before being permitted to play on their speedball fields without a centre-line.

The PBAS has worked closely with the SPF in bringing about changes to allow paintball competitions in Singapore. While local laws still do not allow for International Tournaments to be held in Singapore or for local tournament players to own their own markers, it is hoped that one day some compromises can be made so that development of the sport can be expanded.
