（吉隆坡）日本煙草國際（JTINTER,2615,主板消費品組）今年首季業績表現良好，在整體行業跌勢中逆流而上，惟分析員認為，全年香煙市場仍然深具挑戰，而日本煙草國際將憑高股息、抗跌性的賺錢能力以抵銷部份劣勢。

日本煙草國際最新業績符合預測，這是個好開端，主要是價格較廉宜的雲士頓（WINSTON）品牌表現良好。雲士頓產品市佔率從8.1%揚升至9.5%。

馬銀行研究預測日本煙草國際今年有望派發1令吉28仙股息（加上已經宣佈的75仙資本回退），接下來維持在53仙和57仙，維持雙位數週息率，肯定是高息抗跌股。

僑豐研究將2009年及2010年財政年淨利預測，分別調高3.4%及8.7%至1億零710萬令吉和1億1470萬令吉，主要是日本煙草國際的市佔率企穩。

OSK upgrades JTI to buy

JT International Bhd (JTI), the country’s second-biggestcigarettemanufacturer, has earned an upgrade following the release ofits firstquarter (1Q) numbers, which came in within forecast.

Thisisdespite a challenging wider landscape which had pushed tobaccoindustryvolume down by an annual pace of 9% during the period due tothe twinthreats of tigher regulations and illicit cigarette trade.

Inanote yesterday, OSK Research said it had revised upwards JTI’srevenueand net profit estimates by 11.4% and 3.4% respectively inFY09. Thiswas prompted by the expansion of JTI’s market share to 18.6%in Marchthis year from 17.1% a year earlier, helped mainly by itsWinstoncigarettes, acccording to data from the AC Nielsen Retail Auditreport.

OSKalso tweaked upwards its target price for JTI sharesby almost 10% toRM5.05 from RM4.60, besides upgrading the stock to abuy from neutral.

“Weawait more details from JTI’s upcominganalyst briefing pertaining toits other brands performance, namely,its premium Mild 7 brand and VFMCamel. Although we revise up ourrevenue forecast by 11.4% in FY09,nonetheless, upon factoring forhigher operating and marketing cost, weonly revise up our net profitslightly by 3.4%,” said OSK which alsoraised its forecast for JTI FY10net profit by 8.7%.

However, theresearch house maintained itslower dividend projections of 37 sen and39 sen a share for FY09 andFY10 respectively, and assumes no specialdividends will be declaredfollowing the tobacco firm’s recent capitalrepayment which incurred anoutflow of RM196.2 million during thequarter in review.

JTI’sFY09’s 1Q net profit rose 7.3%  toRM32.99 million from RM30.75 milliona year earlier, helped by highersales volume and prices of cigarettes.Revenue advanced 16% to RM291.5million from RM251.32 million.

The tobacco firm’s net profit accounted for 31.8% of OSK’s and consensus estimates.

Againstthepreceding quarter, JTI’s revenue leapt 15.1% from RM253.2 million.JTIdid not declare dividends during the quarter in review, following a58sen a share payout in FY08.

OSK’s existing assumptionsindicatedthat JTI’s FY09 dividend payout would offer investors a grossdividendyield of 8.8%, derived from dividing annual dividends pershare by thefirm’s share price.

JTI was unchanged at RM4.20 yesterday.

“Thisassumptionis on the back of a payout ratio at 67.8% — which is similarto itspayout ratio during the years from 2003-2006 whereby nospecialdividends were declared,” OSK said.
