刚看了LPI 2008 的年报....居然连英文水皮的我还可以发现错字

Over the medium-term of 5 years, a shareholder of LPI who
purchased 1,000 LPI shares at a price of RM4.14 per LPI share at
the beginning of 2004 or an investment of RM4,140 and held
them for 5 years to the end of 2008 would have received gross
dividends totaling RM4,550 and will have 1,000 LPI shares as at
the end of 2008. At the price of LPI shares of RM9.45 per ordinary
share at the end of 2008, the shareholder would have shares worth
RM9,450 which together with the gross dividends of RM4,550,
would give the shareholder an exceptionally high annual rate of
return on investment of 33.0% or a total return of 238% for the
5-year period.

If a shareholder of LPI had bought 1,000 shares in LPI when it was
listed in 1993, and assuming the shareholder had subscribed for all
the rights issues to date and had not sold any of the LPI shares, he
would have, at the end of 2008, 5,400 LPI shares worth RM51,030,
based on the share price of LPI shares of RM9.45 as at the end of
2008, in addition to receiving a total gross dividend of RM31,403,
which LPI has unfailingly paid every year since its listing in 1993.
With a capital outlay of RM6,950, including subscription for all rights
issues, the total return to this shareholder would be RM75,467 or
a remarkable average rate of return of 24.7% annually for each of
the 15 years that this shareholder has held the shares in LPI since it
was listed in 1993.

LPI again plans share buyback

PETALING JAYA: LPI Capital Bhd has again proposed a share buyback of up to 10% of its issued and paid-up capital, or 13.76 million shares, and the plan would be put up for shareholders’ approval at its AGM on Feb 12.

The company had, in February last year, received shareholders’ approval for the share buyback of up to 10% of its issued share capital and the authority for the buyback will expire on Feb 12.

However, during the 12 months, it bought back only 2,000 shares, of which 1,000 shares were purchased at an average price of RM11.40 on April 14 and another 1,000 shares at RM9.70 each on Oct 10. As at Dec 31, LPI held 1.05 million treasury shares.

The company said in a recent circular to shareholders that the proposed exercise would enable it to use its surplus financial resources to purchase the shares.

It added that the buyback plan would stabilise the supply and demand as well as LPI’s share price and thus support its fundamental value.

“The proposed renewal of share buy-back authority will be funded by internal funds,” it said.

It said the maximum amount of funds to be allocated for the corporate exercise would be subject to the balance in the retained profits and share premium accounts.

As at Dec 31, the retained profits of the company were RM86.99mil while its share premium account was RM104.63mil.

It said the public shareholding was about 35.47%. Assuming the company bought 10% of its shares or 13.76 million shares and cancelled them, the pro forma shareholding spread would be reduced to 28.3%.

The company said the total direct and indirect interests of its chairman Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow and parties acting in concert with him as at Dec 31 were about 1.42% and 42.98% respectively.

LPI said if the share buyback was implemented in full and the shares cancelled, Teh and parties acting in concert would see their direct and indirect stakes increase to 1.58% and 47.76% respectively.

However, if their equity interest rose by more than 2% in any six-month period due to the buyback, they would be obliged to undertake a mandatory offer for the remaining shares.

However, Teh and parties acting in concert might seek a waiver from the Securities Commission from undertaking the mandatory offer.

For the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, LPI posted a net profit of RM32.69mil versus RM25.21mil a year earlier.

For the financial year ended Dec 31, it posted a net profit of RM104.24mil compared with RM87.77mil in 2007.
