KLANG:A Maths whizz, who is a foreign senior lecturer, at the MultimediaUniversity in Cyberjaya claimed trial at the Sessions court here fortaking a RM800 bribe from a student in return for better grades
Knownfor his speed in solving Mathematical questions, Dr Krishna PrasadRamulapati, 52, an Indian national was charged with taking the bribefrom student Kumalini Devi Subramaniam, 24, at Block B, InformationTechnology Faculty Universiti Multimedia, Persiaraan Multimedia inCyberjaya as an inducement to give a better grade for Algorithmicoriented language analysis on June 22.
  The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested him on June 24, after the student lodged a report with the commission.
In earlier media reports it was said that the student had sat for aqualifying exam to enable her to continue her Master’s degree.
After sitting for her papers, she was allegedly approached by herlecturer who told her she did not do well in her exam and that he couldhelp her with the grades provided she agreed to his demands.
DPP Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairi asked the court to set bail at RM10,000while the defence counsel Arunan Selvaraj requested bail be set atRM5,000.
  Sessions Court judge Yong Zarida Sazali set bail of RM8,000 with two sureties and set August 3 to mention the case.
Two fellow women lecturers in their 50s posted the bail and stood assureties for Dr Prasad who has been with the varsity for two-years.
His contract is supposed to be renewed this July.
Dr Prasad, who was clad in khaki coloured pants and a simple shirt,used an old white towel to shield his face from cameramen until he waswhisked away alone in a rented Mercedez Benz 190 from the courtentrance.
  His wife, a Sri Lankan national in her mid-30s who isalso a science lecturer, waited inside the court grounds untilreporters and cameramen left.
  Under the Anti-CorruptionCommission Act 2009, if Dr Prasad is found guilty, he could face a20-year jail term or five times the bribe amount or RM10,000 or whichis higher.

知恥近乎勇，多媒體大學固然無法確保每一位教員的品德都受到規範，但是急於在事情爆發后第一時間否認以保校譽的做法絕對是可恥！
