ONETJ ICT to open October
KUCHING: ONETJ ICT shopping complex, Sarawak’s newest mall, specially dedicated to Information and Communication Technology products and services will open its door in October.
The construction of the mall has been completed, and renovation and stocking up of individual shop units have begun.
The grey-white colour theme on ONETJ’s exterior wall works well in portraying a neat modern image.
The white louvres on the upper exterior wall of the main entrance plus the glass-steel combo entrance roof exude modern classiness.
The generous use of glass on the building exterior wall projects spaciousness in the building.
However, it is really the green full glass facade that pulls together the building design to deliver a clean, yet sophisticated design, befitting the Mall ICT theme.
ONETJ is situated within the vicinity of the exclusive Tabuan Jaya Baru, Height Drives, Woodlands and BDC residential enclaves.
At the outer ring of the area, there is University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) campus, Universiti Institut Teknologi Mara (UiTM) campus, Sarawak International Medical Centre (SIMC), Samajaya Free Trade Zone and several other institutions.
The areas have a high density ICT-savvy population, and it is only natural that the mall is banking on them to form the crowd to the mall.
In another effort to build the crowd to the mall, there will be subsidised bus service to transport shoppers from Unimas, UiTM, polytechnics and surrounding areas to the Mall.
The four-storey mall has 60,000 sq ft of retail space with concourse area on the ground floor for special events. There will be a WiFi equipped food court on the top floor called the SaMBa Zone.
Samba, in computer term, refers to a software that hosts file sharing across different operating systems. This is therefore an appropriate name for the food court, which is essentially a place to have food of different varieties.
The food court operator reveals that a large screen would be put up in SaMBa Zone for infotainment as well.
On the second and third floor, there are retail areas dedicated for stall businesses. Here, small stalls will be set up, akin to those stalls in a PC Fair, to provide even more variety of products to shoppers.
Expect mobile phones, accessories, DVDs, silver jewellery, electronics toys and hosts of other interesting products to be on sale here.
According to ONETJ developer, Kenbest Sdn Bhd, these stalls are set up for those who want easy entry to the business where they need not to worry about renovation, utility bills, maintenance and huge start-up capital. In return, shoppers can expect a diverse range of products at competitive pricing in a PC Fair-like shopping environment.
These stalls are located in the middle of the mall, right next to the busy escalator traffic. This is definitely a new business concept previously exclusive for perfume and make-up stalls like those at Riverside Parkson.
Another notable feature of ONETJ is its nine-panel advertising space on the main wall of the building. The panels can be combined to make a larger advertisement, for example three panels in a row to create a huge landscape advertisement.
These panels face the main road, Jalan Stutong, which is linked to the new Kuching International Airport road.
A conservative estimate by the developer shows that the advertisement could generate potentially 6000 views per hour with houseowners in the surrounding area and travellers make up most of the number.
The mall has recently started its online blog, www.areuone.net/blog which chronicles the Mall construction progress and informs the public about activities in the mall.
Visitors to the blog and the mall official website, www.onetj.com.my, can also expect online activities to be held soon.
From ONETJ official website, there are over 20 computer and mobile phones retailers who have confirmed operating at the mall.
Interestingly from the tenant list, apart from the local retailers, there are new retailers with some from Kuala Lumpur. Competition between retailers always promises more competitive bargains for shoppers.
Kenbest reveals that many more retailers had registered their interest and now that the mall is almost ready, firm bookings are pouring in.
At the time of writing, ONETJ is over 80 per cent ‘occupied’. Presently, ONETJ is still actively gathering both local and national retailers from all levels to join the mall in providing Kuching with a new ICT shopping alternative.
