With his 18 points Saturday, Carlos Boozer led a Utah offensive attack that landed seven Jazz in double digits to help maul the Grizzlies.
Utah 113, Memphis 92 MEMPHIS, Tenn., March 1 (AP) -- The recent road woes for the Utah Jazz have included losses to weak Western Conference teams such as the Los Angeles Clippers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Jazz wouldn't let another cellar dweller get the best of them. Deron Williams had 19 assists and scored 13 points, and the Jazz sent Memphis Grizzlies to their eighth straight loss, 113-92 on Saturday night. "It's a road victory and road victories are hard to come by, especially this year," Williams said. "We'll take them any way we can get them." Utah improved its road record to 13-19, but still is the only one of the six division leaders in the NBA with a losing record away from home. Seven players scored in double figures for Utah, including all five starters. Carlos Boozer led Utah with 18 points, and Mehmet Okur finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Kyle Korver matched Okur's 17 points, and Ronnie Brewer and Andrei Kirilenko scored 16 apiece. Paul Millsap added 14 points as the Jazz snapped a three-game road slide. "It was an important game to try and win," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "Almost every game we play should have that kind of intensity. I know our numbers are not always as pretty as you would like them to be, but the point is trying to win." Rudy Gay led Memphis with 20 points. Hakim Warrick and Juan Carlos Navarro scored 17 points apiece, with Warrick grabbing 13 rebounds. Darko Milicic finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Utah held a 12-point lead early in the fourth, but Memphis used a 12-2 run to cut the margin to 82-80. Memphis could never overtake Utah as the Jazz answered with a 16-3 rally to put the game out of reach. Okur had eight points in the stretch, including a 3-pointer from the top of the key as the shot clock ran down. |

Utah 116, Dallas 110 SALT LAKE CITY, March 3 (AP) -- Deron Williams had 20 assists and 17 points, and Utah rallied for a 16-0 run late in the fourth quarter to beat the Dallas Mavericks 116-110 Monday night after the Jazz blew a huge lead. The Jazz took a 21-point lead shortly after forward Andrei Kirilenko was knocked out of the game with a hip injury on a flagrant foul by Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki in the first quarter. But they allowed the Mavericks to creep back and take a late lead before Utah's rally at the end. Utah made all 18 free throws in the fourth quarter and improved to 26-3 at home, the best home record in the league. Mehmet Okur had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Carlos Boozer scored a game-high 28 points and had three steals, stripping the ball two times in a row from Nowitzki as Utah pulled away in the final minutes. Josh Howard scored 25 points and Nowitzki finished with 23 for Dallas, which fell to 4-4 since acquiring Jason Kidd. Kidd finished with 19 points -- 10 of which he scored in the Mavs' furious fourth-quarter charge. He also dished out nine assists. Jason Terry scored 21 for the Mavericks. Dallas held Utah scoreless for almost five minutes early in the fourth quarter and opened the period on an 11-2 run to take its first lead of the game. Then the Mavericks went on their own scoring drought. After Kidd's 23-footer with 6:29 put Dallas up 92-89, Dallas didn't score again until Nowitzki's three-point play with 2:42 left. Utah scored 16 straight points, mostly from the foul line, and pulled far enough ahead that late 3-pointers by Nowitzki and Kidd weren't enough to lead the Mavericks back. Boozer started Utah's run on a layup, breaking a 4:59 scoring drought, and followed with two free throws. Okur made two from the line and Williams pulled back on a break opportunity and passed to Kyle Korver for a 3-pointer that put Utah up 98-92 with 4:43 left. That had the fans back on their feet. Boozer stripped the ball from Nowitzki on Dallas' next two possessions and the Jazz drew fouls at the other end both times. Williams made two from the line with 4:12 left, then Matt Harpring added two more to put the Jazz up 102-92 Harpring went to the line again with 3:13 left and after he made the first shot, Nowitzki was called for a technical. Korver made that free throw, then Harpring finished his foul shots by making another to put Utah up 105-93. Korver finished with 17 points, three more than all of Dallas' reserves combined. Kirilenko was injured with 7:04 left in the first quarter when he went up for a layup and Nowitzki came down hard with his right arm. Nowitzki caught Kirilenko on the shoulder and neck and sent him crashing to the floor, where he remained for several minutes. Kirilenko finally got up and walked gingerly to the free throw line, where Nowitzki appeared to apologize before Kirilenko made both free throws for the flagrant foul. Kirilenko was taken to a hospital, then returned to the arena in the second half in a wheelchair. There was no immediate word on his right hip injury. Notes: Williams' 14 assists in the first half were one short of John Stockton's team record for a half. ... Dallas was tied for Utah with the best home record entering the game. ... Devean George scored 12 for Dallas, the only Mavericks reserve to score more than two.

Utah 105, Minnesota 76 SALT LAKE CITY, March 5 (AP) -- Utah was already one of the few teams to lose to Minnesota once this year. Losing to the Timberwolves again Wednesday night was never much of a possibility. The Jazz easily avoided another upset by the Timberwolves, winning 105-76 for their 17th straight home victory. It was barely a week after Utah lost at Minnesota 111-100 and the Jazz, who lead the Northwest Division, were still a little embarrassed by the loss to the team with the worst record in the Western Conference. "They took it to us in Minnesota,'' said Carlos Boozer, who had 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Jazz. "We wanted to pay them back a little bit.'' Utah led by 12 at halftime, then opened the third quarter with a 15-0 run against the weary Wolves, who lost at home to Charlotte 109-89 on Tuesday. Deron Williams scored 14 of his 21 points in the third, going 6-for-7 in the period mostly on layups. Williams also had 11 assists for his fifth straight double-double. "I just wanted to try to put pressure on the defense,'' Williams said. "I didn't think I was really that aggressive scoring the ball in the first half, so I wanted to come out and try to take over a little bit and try to put the game out of reach.'' Mehmet Okur added 15 points and nine rebounds and Ronnie Brewer scored 16 for the Jazz. C.J. Miles, filling in for injured forward Andrei Kirilenko (hip), was the only Utah starter not to score in double figures. He had nine points.

Utah 126, Phoenix 118 PHOENIX, March 7 (AP) -- Carlos Boozer scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half, including a tough eight-foot bank shot with 31.1 seconds to play, and the Utah Jazz handed the Phoenix Suns their third consecutive home loss, 126-118 on Friday night. Deron Williams had 25 points and 15 asssists and Mehmet Okur had 25 points, including 4-of-6 3-pointers, and grabbed 14 rebounds to give the Jazz their fourth win in a row and just their 14th in 33 games on the road this season. Amare Stoudemire scored 37 but the Suns fell to 3-6 since Shaquille O'Neal joined the lineup. O'Neal had 20 points, his highest-scoring game with Phoenix, and Steve Nash added 17 points and 15 assists. Raja Bell added 19 points. Phoenix is 8-0 when he scores at least 20. The Jazz, who shot 57 percent, outscored Phoenix 12-4 over the frantic final 2:09. Andrei Kirilenko missed his second game in a row for Utah with a right hip strain. |

Utah 132, Denver 105 SALT LAKE CITY, March 8 (AP) -- First, Mehmet Okur drove through the Denver Nuggets with the swiftness of a guard. Then, the 6-foot-11 Utah center went outside and started shooting like a guard, too. Okur hit a career-high six 3-pointers while leading the Jazz to a 132-105 rout of the Nuggets, extending Utah's lead over Denver in the Northwest Division. Okur went 9-for-11 from the field, making his first six 3s and only missing one. He had four 3s as the Jazz pulled away with 43 points in the second quarter. Okur's only baskets inside 23-feet were a short jumper and two layups, when Okur split the defense and drove for a layup each time. "He has such a unique dimension he brings to our team,'' said Utah's Kyle Korver, who added two 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. "I don't care who you are. If somebody's hitting that many 3s it's deflating.'' Deron Williams, who had his seventh straight double-double with 16 assists and 14 points, Carlos Boozer had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Okur finished with 27 points and 11 boards in Utah's 18th straight home win, one short of the team record. Utah has a four-game lead on Denver in the Northwest Division. Had the Jazz lost, they would only be up two games on the Nuggets and whoever comes in second could miss the playoffs. The Jazz outrebounded the Nuggets 43-30, had 36 assists Denver's 16 and flustered the Nuggets into two technicals and one flagrant foul. Allen Iverson scored 28 and Carmelo Anthony added 24 points for the Nuggets, who fell to 1-2 against Utah this season. The Nuggets have 20 games left to try to catch the Jazz, including another meeting in Utah on April 12. The Nuggets were coming off a 109-96 win at home over the Spurs after trailing by eight at halftime Friday night in Denver. That composure didn't seem to make the short flight. The Nuggets visit the Spurs on Monday. "It's important for us to take all of the positive things we did tonight - what little positive things there were - to San Antonio and leave the negative here,'' said Iverson, who played with a sprained finger on his right hand. The Jazz played in Phoenix on Friday and outran the Suns 126-118, then kept up the pace Saturday back at home. Okur made his first six 3-pointers for a career high and finished 6-for-7. Kyle Korver and C.J. Miles added two 3-pointers each as the Jazz went 11-for-15 from beyond-the-arc. Paul Millsap had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Matt Harpring scored 10 for the Jazz, who went 50-for-83 from the field. Denver shot 50 percent in the first half, yet trailed by 23 at halftime after the Jazz made 15 of 21 shots in the second quarter. "I've never seen Utah shoot the ball as well as they are shooting the ball right now,'' Denver coach George Karl said. |

Chicago 108, Utah 96 CHICAGO, March 11 (AP) -- Drew Gooden tied a season high with 24 points, Ben Gordon added 19, and the Chicago Bulls beat Utah 108-96 on Tuesday night to snap the Jazz's five-game winning streak. Gordon hit several key 3-pointers, including two late in the third and one midway through the fourth after the Jazz pulled within 10. That was enough to offset strong performances by Utah's Mehmet Okur (22 points, 18 rebounds) and Deron Williams (20 points, 10 assists) and give the Bulls a much needed break from another round of drama. The latest involved Chris Duhon, who missed a shootaround at Detroit on Sunday and made some comments that didn't sit well with management. A win over the Northwest division leaders had the Bulls feeling a little better. The Bulls built a 14-point lead in the second quarter, were ahead 55-42 at halftime, and led by as much as 17 in the third quarter. Although the Jazz tried to make things interesting, Chicago hung on. The Bulls were leading by 11 late in the third when Utah's Matt Harpring had a basket negated by an offensive foul. Gordon then hit two 3-pointers in the final minute as the Bulls took an 86-71 lead into the fourth. He struck again after Utah pulled within 10 on Ronnie Brewer's free throw, burying a 3-pointer that made it 103-90 with just under five minutes remaining. Utah's Andrei Kirilenko started and scored 12 points after missing three games with a sprained right hip following a hard foul by Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki on March 3. But the good vibe surrounding his return quickly evaporated. The Jazz beat Minnesota, Phoenix and Denver by an average of 21 points without Kirilenko. They held a 4 1/2-game lead over the Nuggets in the Northwest division and trailed the Lakers by just 2 1/2 for the Western Conference's best record entering Tuesday's game. But they were off target early on and never really recovered. |

爵士刚刚在公牛主场惨吞败仗，这次来到密尔瓦基，似乎也卖不到乖。虽然第一节领先40-26，但是最后一节竟然让对手反超。幸好boozer在关键时刻上篮取分，再靠着kirilenko的火锅和boozer的盗球，才化险为夷。

Utah 114, Milwaukee 110 MILWAUKEE, March 12 (AP) -- All season long, the Utah Jazz have made a bad habit out of losing to teams they shouldn't on the road. And it might have happened again Wednesday night if it wasn't for Carlos Boozer.
Boozer hit the go-ahead layup with 46.7 seconds left and the Jazz narrowly avoided their second straight surprising road loss by holding on to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 114-110. The Jazz have been nearly untouchable at home this season, keeping them near the top of the Western Conference. But Utah carried a 14-20 road record into Wednesday night - including the latest installment in their road misadventures, a 12-point loss at Chicago on Tuesday. "We have had that problem all season,'' guard Deron Williams said. "Sometimes we play down, and it's something we can't do. We've got to attack everybody like they're the best team in the league because right now we can't afford any more losses. You see how tough the West is. Teams aren't losing right now.'' Williams scored 26 and had 13 assists for his ninth straight double-double and 41st overall.
Ronnie Brewer tied a career high with 21 points and Boozer added 20 points and 11 rebounds for his 43rd double-double. Charlie Villanueva and Michael Redd scored 26 points each to lead the Bucks. Utah coach Jerry Sloan said games like Wednesday's will toughen his team up for the playoffs. "The games have been tough,'' Sloan said. "The game in Chicago was a tough game. Physically, they got after us. These guys got after us here really hard. That's a learning process to be able to win those games - not try to win them in the first quarter, but win them as you're coming down the stretch.'' Utah certainly tried to put Milwaukee away early. The Jazz came out seemingly determined to prevent another bad road loss, running out to a 40-26 lead at the end of the first quarter. Williams had had 10 points and six assists - throwing a pair of alley-oop dunks to Brewer, two of the six slam dunks the Jazz had in the first quarter. But the Bucks rallied to go into halftime down 1, then ran out to an 11-point lead with 5:06 left in the fourth quarter. "They took the game over, really,'' Boozer said. "They had the momentum for a long time (in) the game. We came back and got stops the last four, minutes of the game and made big free throws as well.'' Said Bucks guard Charlie Bell: "We've got to play like that the whole game.'' They didn't. From there, Utah got to the free throw line and got back into the game. The Jazz went on a 12-2 run to cut Milwaukee's lead to 1, going 6-for-6 from the line during that stretch. Utah then retook the lead on Boozer's layup. After a Milwaukee timeout, Redd had his shot blocked by Andrei Kirilenko and Brewer was fouled with 25.8 seconds left. He missed the first free throw and made the second - one of only two missed free throws in the final 5 minutes for the Jazz - giving the Bucks one last chance to tie or take the lead. But Villanueva turned the ball over, and Mehmet Okur made two free throws to put the Jazz ahead 112-108. Redd hit a jumper with two seconds left to cut the lead to 112-110, but Williams hit a pair of free throws with 0.8 seconds left to seal the win.

Jefferson made a running jumper with 1.5 seconds remaining to give the Nets a 117-115 victory over the Utah Jazz on Saturday night. "On that situation, you want to win the game or put it into overtime," said Nets coach Lawrence Frank. "Richard had a great time, great attack and he didn't settle. It was a phenomenal finish and you have to give him a lot of credit." Jefferson said he was simply trying to make something happen. "I was just trying to attack and get to the hole and either get something to the rim, get an open shot for my teammates or get to the free throw line. That was the ultimate goal," Jefferson said. Carlos Boozer, who equaled his career high with 41 points for Utah, could only watch helplessly as the shot caught net. "I was hoping it would come off so I could grab the rebound," Boozer said. "He made a hell of a shot." Jefferson led the Nets with 27 points and Vince Carter scored 25. Josh Boone had 21 points and 13 rebounds as New Jersey posted its fifth straight home win over Utah. Utah 96, Toronto 79 SALT LAKE CITY, March 17 (AP) - Reserve point guard Ronnie Price sparked the Utah Jazz and got under the skin of the Toronto Raptors. Price had 13 points, five assists and directed a decisive fourth-quarter run as the Jazz tied a franchise record with their 19th straight home victory, a 96-79 win over the Toronto Raptors on Monday night. "My job is to bring energy when I step on the floor,'' Price said. "The starters on this team play a lot of minutes so I don't have a lot of time to make an impression.'' The third-year pro who backs up Deron Williams played less than 10 total minutes in the second halves of the last four games. On Monday, the Jazz outscored the Raptors by 25 points in the 13 minutes Price played. He quarterbacked the Jazz to a 24-4 run in the first 6:27 of the fourth quarter to turn a tie game into a blowout. Price had two driving layups, three assists and some pesky defense on T.J. Ford, who erupted after getting called for an offensive foul. Ford had to be restrained by teammate Jason Kapono from charging referee Eddie F. Rush. The feisty Raptor guard was whistled for two technicals and ejected. "I have been playing against T.J. since I was about 8 years old in Texas,'' Price said. "I have so much respect for him and we have had a lot of battles over the years. From the moment he entered the game, he looked like he had an aggressive attitude. I knew I had to match that with my own intensity.'' Williams scored 21 points and liked the view from the bench. "Our second group did a great job,'' he said. "They carried us pretty much the whole game. Kyle (Korver) was hitting shots, Ronnie was playing great defense, hitting shots and frustrating people out there.'' Carlos Boozer had 13 points and 10 rebounds but left the game two minutes early with a muscle strain on the left side of his back. He is probable on Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers when Utah can break its franchise record for longest home winning streak, which was set from Jan. 19-March 29, 1996 and again from Dec. 13, 1989 to March 3, 1990. Jazz starting center Mehmet Okur left the game in the first quarter due to the stomach flu. But Korver scored 17 points on 6-for-7 shooting as the Jazz reserves outscored their Toronto counterparts 47-30. Okur will be a game-time decision on Thursday. "In the last part of the ballgame, we got a little life, ran the floor and made some nice moves to the basket,"Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "his was our fifth game in seven days, so we were a bit sluggish at the start.'' |
