Reds unlikely to meet Dutch club's demands before Saturday deadline

Liverpool will make a final attempt to sign Ajax star Luis Suarez before the Saturday deadline imposed by the Dutch club as it becomes increasingly likely they will wait until the summer to bring the striker to Anfield.

Ajax continue to ask for ￡30 million for the Uruguayan and have accused the Reds of lacking respect after a ￡12.7m bid was rejected. It is believed it will take at least ￡21m for the Amsterdam club to consider selling Suarez, despite the 24-year-old's clear desire to complete the move.

Frank de Boer, the Ajax manager, said on Wednesday that Liverpool have until Saturday to reach an agreement to sign the World Cup star, adding that the Reds face the prospect of a￡4.3m daily increase on his transfer value.

Liverpool are preparing their take-it-or-leave-it offer amidst reports from Holland that Suarez is unhappy with Ajax, whom he feels are "pricing him out of a deal". Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf said on Thursday that the player has demanded a move to Merseyside and feels "no longer motivated" to play for his current club.

Insiders at Liverpool now believe it is increasingly likely that the club may not sign Suarez until the summer, with owners Fenway Sports Group refusing to pay inflated fees to buy players in the January window.

The club's new American owners have been shocked by Ajax's massive valuation and know he will be available for a far more reasonable fee if they wait until the end of the season.

Ajax are resigned to Suarez's departure but have always hoped their talisman will stay at the club in the summer, when they will have time to identify and recruit a long-term replacement.

Suarez is believed to be frustrated with the situation and was expected to meet Rik van den Boog, the club’s general director, after he returned from business in South Africa on Wednesday evening.

Ex-Dutch international de Boer admits the former Groningen man has declared his interest in a switch to the Premier League club, but has warned Liverpool they must now meet Ajax's demands if they want to land their number one target.

“This situation has been going on long enough,” de Boer said on Wednesday. “We don't want to lose him. Liverpool know what they have to pay and we are sticking to our guns.

“We want to know where we stand by January 29, after that nothing more will happen.

“He thinks Liverpool are a good club, but he understands our decision to hold on to him.”

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish wants to bolster his squad this month after the club's poor start to the season, with a place in European competition for next season being the short-term target.

Damien Comolli, the club's director of football strategy, and Dalglish believe Suarez is the man to add goals, creativity and energy to the Reds' forward line in support of Fernando Torres.

Suarez scored 110 goals in 154 games for the Dutch giants and netted a stunning 49 times last season but is now keen to link up with the Spanish-speaking contingent at Anfield.

His relationship with the Ajax hierarchy has deteriorated this season and it is understood that he was unhappy that the club failed to appeal against his seven-match ban incurred by the Dutch Football Federation in late November for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal.

Holloway would get slice of Adam profit

Ian Holloway would get a cut of any transfer fee that Blackpool receive for Liverpool target Charlie Adam.


Holloway has a clause in his contract that rewards the Tangerines boss for selling a player for a higher amount than he was signed for.

Liverpool and Aston Villa have both had ￡4 million bids rejected for Adam, who Holloway signed for Blackpool from Rangers for ￡500,000 in 2009, with the club insisting the player is worth at least double that figure.

"My chairman looked at my record of producing players and helping players and selling them on and he wanted that at Blackpool," Holloway told The Sun.

The Blackpool manager described Liverpool's offer for Adam as "disgraceful" and claimed the player was worth ￡16 million. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson agrees that Adam has been seriously undervalued by his suitors and joked following Tuesday night's 3-2 victory at Bloomfield Road that the midfielder's corners alone were worth ￡10 million

Holloway added: "If you're saying I'm doing this because I'm getting 20-30% of the Adam money I'll not be very happy - it's miles away, absolute nonsense. I'm on a far bigger bonus to keep us in the Premier League and Charlie Adam can help me do that."

There is nothing in football rules to prevent a manager having a clause in his contract granting him a percentage of the profit made on a player.

An FA spokesman confirmed: "This type of agreement does not contravene any of our rules whatsoever."

PAUL Konchesky could end his unhappy six months at Liverpool by sealing a return to Fulham.

The 29-year-old full-back arrived at Anfield from Craven Cottage in August, but has struggled to nail down a regular place under new Reds boss Kenny Dalglish, and is now considering a move, possibly on loan, back to west London.

Konchesky reportedly held talks with Cottagers officials ahead of last night’s game between the two sides, and could finalise a switch before the closure of the transfer window on Tuesday. Fulham are the only club able to sign the defender during this window, as FIFA regulations prevent players from featuring for three different clubs in the same season, and Konchesky has already featured for both Fulham and Liverpool in this campaign.

Meanwhile, the Reds’ pursuit of Luis Suarez looks set to be resolved in the next few days, after Ajax set the Reds a deadline of Saturday to table a ‘good’ offer for the Uruguayan forward. The Reds hold a long-standing interest, and have tabled a bid of around ￡13m for the 24-year-old’s services.

Ajax, however, are looking to collect a fee closer to ￡25m, and the manager Frank De Boer has urged Liverpool to meet their asking price by Saturday.

"I do not want to be surprised on the last day of the window," said De Boer.

"So we have made that deadline, January 29. This situation has been going on long enough. Liverpool have to come up with a good offer and the money we want by that day."

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish last night refused to be drawn on potential transfers, stating that all business would be done "in house." The Reds are weighing up whether to make an improved bid for Suarez, whilst also contemplating increasing their bid for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam, having had a ￡4.5million bid rejected by the Seasiders last week.

早在冬季转会窗口正式开启之前，很多英媒体就开始爆炒苏亚雷斯将转投利物浦的消息，但直到本周四、距离“冬窗”关闭仅剩五天时，苏亚雷斯与安菲尔德的距离依然若即若离，这笔被认为与曼城签下哲科并列冬季最重磅交易的转会遭遇了难产。

　　显然，双方在价格上的分歧是导致这笔转会无法顺利完成的主要原因，据《每日邮报》透露，阿贾克斯主帅弗兰克-德波尔已经向利物浦下达最后通牒，并将1月29日设为转会的最后期限，甚至为了向红军施压，德波尔还夸张的声称，这笔交易拖下去损失的只有红军，因为苏亚雷斯的身价每天都会上涨500万欧元。

两家球会目前谈判的关键依然还是一个“钱”字。荷兰的《电讯报》透露，阿贾克斯方面至今依然坚持3000万欧元的高价，是双方一直没能达成协议的原因。而《电讯报》同时透露，利物浦至今为止最高的一份报价也不过1270万欧元，这与阿贾克斯的期望相去甚远，所以谈判陷入了僵局。虽说阿贾克斯方面坚持的3000万欧元有点虚高，但依照德国《转会市场》对苏亚雷斯2500万欧元身价的估算，利物浦大约只有半数的报价确实显得不够诚意。如果说达伦-本特也能卖到2400万英镑（约合2800万欧元），那么过去154次代表阿贾克斯出战打进110个球的乌拉圭人，不到达伦-本特的半价，确实也难以说服荷兰方面放人。而按照《电讯报》的说法，利物浦的最新报价提高到了1700万欧元，但阿贾克斯方面希望能至少获得2100万的转会费。
