Nanotechnology has been defined as technology used forcontrolling, synthesizing and fabrication of materials, structures, systems anddevices with at least one characteristic dimension measured in nanometers(1~100 nm). Nanostructure is the basic building block of devices and systems.It is one of the kernel branches in nanotechnology. It has received muchattention over the past few years because of its unique properties and widerange of applications including gas sensing property, piezoelectric powergeneration, piroelectric temperature sensor, lasing effect, field emissionproperty, antibacterial coatings etc. A variety of nanostructures have beensynthesized so far including nanotubes, nanowires, nanobelts, nanorods, nanonails,nanostars, nanorings etc. Those structures will have potential to bring impactsto the semiconductor technology in the future as we continue to shrink thedimension of the device into the nanometer regime.
