Type | Announcement | Subject | OTHERS | Description | PPL PLANTATIONS SDN BHD - DAMAGES TO BIOLOGICAL ASSETS | The Board of Directors wishes to announce that during the routine visit to the Group’s biological assets (“Estate”), the particulars of which are provided hereinafter) on 19 February 2025, the Management noticed that a certain portion of the Estate had suffered damage. This matter is currently under investigation to assess the full extent of the damage, including the causes thereof.
The Estate, with a land size of approximately 436 hectares, is planted with cloned rubber trees located at the permanent reserve forest land in Mukim of Sembrong, the State of Johor Darul Takzim. The Estate is currently owned and managed by PPL Plantations Sdn Bhd (“PPLP”), a 80%-owned subsidiary of Lii Hen Plantation Sdn Bhd, which in turn is a 90%-owned subsidiary of the Company. In 2015, PPLP took possession of the Estate and commenced the plantation infrastructure and cultivation activities. As of 31 December 2024, the carrying value of the biological assets was approximately RM5.8 million.
Having noted a discrepancy between the latest estate report and the physical condition of the planted trees on 19 February 2025, the Board of PPLP had on 20 February 2025 filed a police report on the subject matter.
In the meantime, Management of the Company and PPLP will continue with its investigation with a view to ascertain the extent and quantum of the damage and losses, including the need to make an impairment provision to the carrying value of the biological assets.
The financial impact of this incident is still being assessed and not immediately available. Further announcement(s) will be made as more information is obtained by the Board.
