　20世纪70年代，美国正经历着从文化、商业到政治各方面的改革，许多旧有的思想被悄然革命……即将从而立之年迈入中年的哈维·米尔克（西恩·潘饰）是一个事业略有小成的小商人，他居住人来人往，不停穿梭的纽约城，每天在不停的奔波中为着更好的生活赚钱，单身的他，心里却总是觉得空空荡荡。几十年的漂泊生涯里，他有过另一半，最后却总是分开的结局收场，米尔克也曾反省过，也曾扪心自问，但却总是无法参透如何恋爱，在这方面，他还像是一个幼稚懵懂的小孩。
　　39岁的生日那天，哈维·米尔克在地铁上遇见了一个年轻俊俏的男人，他名叫斯科特·史密斯（詹姆斯·弗兰科饰）。像是冥冥中注定的一样，哈维·米尔克被斯科特·史密斯身上的独特气质深深吸引，两人在地铁上热烈的交谈起来，米尔克这才发现自己在性取向上的与众不同，他对斯科特的感觉并不仅仅是朋友、哥们那么简单，他对他的感觉，正是他一直在寻找的另一半的那种感觉。巧的是，斯科特对哈维亦是一见钟情。两个寂寞的心走在了一起。为了避开纽约城里熟识的亲朋好友，两人搬家到了旧金山，合伙开了一家摄影器材店铺，做着小本生意，自给自足。他们的恋情在圈内渐渐的传开，许多不敢出柜的同性恋人钦佩他们的勇气，渐渐他们的小店成为了旧金山同性恋人的聚集地，跟他们一样的人都在这里敞开心声，倾诉着属于自己的感情。
　　随着接触的同性恋人越来越多，米尔克和斯科特发现虽然整个美国都在革新，但在对于同性恋的态度上还是趋于保守和歧视，尤其是政府和警察的态度更是让他们不能接受。因此米尔克决定从政，竞选政府公务员，从而用自己的力量来渐渐改变目前不公的处境。虽然最开始米尔克屡战屡败，但在一位女同性恋助手的帮助下，最终顺利的当选政府调查员。可惜的是因为他将精力全部用在了政治上，斯科特黯然的离开了他。当选后的斯科特利用传统媒体、慷慨激昂的演讲阐述着自己的政见，很快也赢得了旧金山市市长乔治·莫斯科恩（丹尼斯·欧哈尔饰）的大力支持。正当米尔克为推广同性恋合法的法案而奔走呼吁之时，一名在政治生涯上遭受失败的保守派成员丹·怀特（乔什·布洛林饰），却暗暗地展开了他的刺杀计划……

之前在某oscar楼看到这戏的海报, 但没什么注意. 随着sean penn凭着这部戏夺下最佳男主角奖, 而引起了我的兴趣, 寻找一些介绍, 才知道是讲一个在美国70年代, 第一个以公开同性恋者身分当选市议员, 努力为同性恋者争取人权 - harvey milk的事迹.

虽然我知道这是在讲述同性恋者的故事,  但在戏的开头, 讲述milk和scott的吻戏, 我的确吓了一跳, 原谅我的无知, 之前没看过类似的戏,所以我没预料到现在的演员可以牺牲到将的地步.

演员方面, 我觉得主要演员都把同性恋角色演的惟妙惟肖, 虽然我不懂那些演员是真的同性恋者. 尤其是sean penn, 在看他戏里的娘娘腔, 我还真的以为他是真的同性恋者, 觉得他的最佳男主角奖真的实之名归. 就如一位网友说的, 如果sean penn现在站出来声称他是同性恋者, 他会相信. 我也会相信.

由于这部戏触及敏感话题, 而难以和大马观众见面. 觉得可惜, 毕竟这是一部很有意义的戏, 瞥开同性恋的话题, 这戏也让我们从另外一个角度, 来审查这世上常有的现象, 就是人们如何排斥和欺压异己和弱势, 现今社会的写照, 戏里的政治人物也似成相识, 他们为了自己的政治利益,  发表了一些荒唐和牵强的申明, 煽动一些愚蠢人民, 把一些弱势群体赶尽杀绝.

我觉得他后面的那句很有意思,

I ask for the movement to continue because it's not about personal gain, and it's not about ego, and it's not about power. It's about the "us's" out there. Not just the gays but the blacks and the Asians and the seniors and the disabled. The "us's." Without hope, the "us's" give up. And I know you can't live on hope alone. But without hope, life is not worth living.So you,and you,and you,you got to give them hope.

从文中, 可以看到一个本地的同志如何谴责astro在直播oscar颁奖礼的时候, 前后cencor了gay和lesbian这两个字. 觉得他讲的有意思呒所以铺上来, 恕未翻译.

However, if you caught the Oscars on Astro, you would have noticedsomething so bizarre almost to be ironic. The words ‘gay’ and ‘lesbian’were censored from both these speeches. For me, this act of censorshipdefeated the very victory won by these two men. The two moments ofsilence rang out like the gunshots that killed Harvey Milk.

Welive in a time when understanding is needed, when artists need to bebold in addressing the manifold injustices of the world. Hence, such amovie had to be made, such acceptance speeches to be uttered.Butby its act of censorship, Astro has sent a message to all Malaysiansthat gays and lesbians are still shameful things to be censored fromthe public's ears. As a gay man, I am truly offended.

After allthese years of contributing to the country through my work, of helpingpeople regardless of their orientation, being proud of who I am andhelping others be proud of who they are, I can assure you that the onlything wrong is how much hate gays have to endure simply for the way welove.

What is Astro trying to achieve with the censoring of thewords ‘gay’ and ‘lesbian’? Do they think these words will promotehomosexuality? Let me assure you that homosexuality cannot be promoted,it just happens.
Just as a person's sexuality becomes apparentto him or her when the hormones kick in the teen years; you don't needsex promoted to you by the TV - your body does its own promotion.

Meanwhile,words like ‘terrorist’, ‘rapist’ and ‘murderer’ gets passed and nobodygets their panties knotted over how these words might promoteterrorism, rapes and murders. On the other hand, words like ‘gays’ and‘lesbians’ that describe people among us who happen love the same sexget treated like it is a crime to even mention in public.

s Astro promoting hate over love? Just what kind of society does Astro want to be creating?
One where people can talk about terrorism but not love? You want to know what breeds social ills?
Itis the kind of insecurity and low self-esteem that results from suchcontinual shaming through the media, that then leads to machismo,violence, bullying, and other superficial ways with which men employ tocompensate for their insecurity.
Does Astro not know that many oftheir own staff are gay? I won't name them, but trust me, I know manyof them (and I congratulate Astro for smartly tapping into such a poolof talent). But is Astro now ashamed of its many talented gay andlesbian staff?
And does Astro not know too that a huge number ofits viewers are gay and lesbian? Otherwise, why bother to screen‘Brothers & Sisters’, ‘Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’, ‘Six FeetUnder’ and other popular TV series that show how gays and lesbians arenot only part of society but play vital roles in shaping that societyfor the better?

Is Astro ashamed of its gay and lesbianviewers? And if this is some national guideline, then Astro needs toquestion it if it hopes to be fair to its viewers. Stop censoringthe words that describe who I am. I am a Malaysian. I work hard for theright to be here, and I work hard for the right to love, just likeeveryone else.
