如何获取在网上的database（mysql)的资料?

小弟想知道如果要develop一个window application(vb.net),　可以getting data(query)我所租用的网络空间里的mysql database,可以用那些方法

if you know the IP address of the space you rent, then you can connect to the database inside there, but then if that server doesn't allow connection between it and outsider, then nothing you can do.

just my 2cent, correct me if i am wrong

不鼓勵通過 internet 直接控制 database
應該使用 server site script 例如 asp jsp perl php 等等

那么如何透过window-based application来存取在网上的mysql database资料呢？
我是想利用vb.net develop一个window-based application, 然后透过它来insert, update or delete online-based's mysql database
