每年逾100消防員因縱火被捕
據2016年的1份報告，國家志願消防委員會（NVFC）指出，沒有針對消防員縱火案件的國家資料收集系統。報告稱：「由於沒有關於消防員縱火犯的官方數據來源，研究人員、消防部門領導和調查人員被迫根據已知案件的樣本進行推斷。」根據1項新聞調查顯示，每年有超過100名消防員因縱火被捕。

Since World War II, California has relied on a unique group of firefighters to battle its conflagrations: inmates. Prisoners who want to enter the Conservation Camp Program must meet security requirements and undergo two weeks of training.

The all-inmate crews live in so-called fire camps and are led by personnel from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire. They earn between $2.90 and $5 a day depending on their duties—and slightly more when actively fighting a fire. Though their numbers have fluctuated over the years, they have often comprised approximately one-third of California’s firefighting force.
