During an anti-vice raid in Geylang, a group of 5 plainclothes police officers were surrounded by a 100 strong crowd after they arrested an 18 year old man who was promoting an illegal gambling game of "si gor luck" in the backlane between Lorong 14 and 16 Geylang. Despite warnings for the 100 strong crowd to disperse, the gathered people were becoming agitated and shouted at the policemen to release the arrested teen. Feeling threatened, a police sergeant whipped out his revolver and pointed the gun laser at the crowd. This action made the crowd retreat but one man Ho Hock Hui stepped forward and scolded vulgarities at the policeman, challenging the sergeant to shoot him if he dared to. The policeman subsequently holstered his weapon. Fortunately for the plainclothes policemen, reinforcements arrived and helped disperse the crowd. The incident was captured on CCTV and the agitators in the unlawful assembly were arrested in Geylang on the same night. All 5 plainclothes police officers sustained injuries during their altercation with the 100 strong crowd.
