stevend@thestar.com.my KUALALUMPUR: Police have recorded a statement from the woman in the sex video whichimplicates Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said. Hesaid the police have also compiled sufficient evidence on the man who appearedin the video. Basedon the investigation and expert opinion, he said, the police had no doubt that thevideo was authentic. “Thevideo did not have any element of being fake, superimposed or copied from othersources. “Weare also confident of the identity of the man in the sex video,” he said afterwitnessing the handing-over ceremony of duties to the new DeputyInspector-General of Police in Bukit Aman yesterday. “Wehave also recorded statements from all the people who may assist in theinvestigation into the case, including the woman in the video,” Ismail said. Theinvestigation was expected to be completed next week as the police awaited areport from an overseas expert to determine the authenticity of the Omega watchwhich the Datuk T trio had handed to the police. “Onceour investigation is completed, we will refer it to the Attorney-General for furtheraction,” he added. Askedwhether the people in the video could be charged if the video was recordedoverseas, Ismail said the police would make sure that the investigation was inline with the Evidence Act and Criminal Procedure Code. “Whetherthe video was filmed in Malaysia or not, it does not matter as the authenticityof the video is more important,” he said. OnMarch 21, several editors and journalists were shown a 22-minute video, showinga man resembling the Opposition Leader having sex with a woman. Thesource who identified himself only as “Datuk T” claimed that the video wasrecorded on Feb 21 in a local hotel room. Meanwhile,Bernama reported that Anwar stopped his ceramah in the interiorarea of Kapit, Sarawak, after a longhouse chief asked him about his sodomycase, the sex video and his Omega watch. Anwar,who had spoken for 20 minutes, left abruptly after longhouse chief Edison Bugapasked him to explain, according to a resident. Anwarreportedly told the 120-strong crowd that they should be more worried aboutlogging and seizure of their native customary rights land. |
