CHANGE OF SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATION STRUCTURE

Assalamualaikum & Good day

To our valued students,

Please be informed that effective from Trimester 1, 2009/2010, Supplementary Examination will be deferred to the Final Examination on the following trimester.

For example, student who fails in the Final Examination in Trimester 1, 2009/2010 and is granted supplementary (F* or FL* or I grade), will sit for the supplementary examination together with the Final Examination on Trimester 2, 2009/2010.

The details on the implementation are as follows:-

i) The Final Examination result (F* and FL*) is deemed valid for the GPA/CGPA calculation which is equivalent to F and FL respectively. Thus, the result can be used for the submission to the sponsors or any other parties.

ii) Student with F* and FL* can be terminated since the credit hour is counted for GPA and CGPA calculation. Student with terminated status is not eligible to sit for Supplementary Examination until s/he is approved for reinstatement.

iii) The supplementary result will be counted in the trimester when the student sits for the supplementary examination. Referring to the above example, the result will be calculated in Trimester 2, 2009/2010. The highest grade one can achieve is C (2.000 point).

iv) Student with “I” grade, Rules No. 8 on Grading System is still applicable i.e. student with CON and “I” grade cannot be terminated. However, there is an additional clause as below:
“Senate reserves the right to terminate “I” students on case to case basis”

v) Student may choose not to sit for the supplementary examination by filling up a Withdrawal for Supplementary Offer Form and the completed form must be submitted to ERU Office. An announcement will be published on the Bulletin Board.

vi) Graduating students or Foundation / IELP students to be approved to Beta / Foundation but pending due to supplementary subject(s), are required to apply for Leave of Absence (LOA) from the faculty

vii) Students who are on Leave of Absence are also applied to the above rules.

viii) Students who don’t attend the Supplementary Examination due to valid reason(s) acceptable by BOE/Senate, will be granted F** or FL** which is equivalent to F or FL, respectively. The details for F** and FL** are as below:-


CRITERIA

1. F** and FL** grade is equivalent to F and FL grade respectively. The grade shall remain until student sit for the supplementary examination within one year.

NOTE: Student has sat for the final examination and the final examination result shall remain until the student sit for the supplementary examination.

2. Student with F** and FL** can still be terminated

NOTE: The student’s final examination result shall be valid until the student sit for the supplementary examination. Terminated student is not eligible to sit for Supplementary Examination.

3. Student with F** and FL** shall not be able to register the subject, hence, there’s no additional tuition fees will be charged for the said subject and the student shall not required to do the coursework again.

NOTE: The same coursework mark will be brought forward for the calculation of the total mark. The student is only required to sit for the Supplementary Examination.

4. Only 2 reasons are acceptable for the BOE to consider i.e. submission of valid MC and student who is undergoing Industrial Training abroad.

NOTE: Any other reasons shall be recommended by the Board of Examiners (BOE)

5. Student must sit for the supplementary exam in the nearest semester when the subject is offered within one year, or otherwise the subject will be graded as F or FL.

NOTE: There must be a cutting point for F** and FL**. It may also help in keeping track the student’s supplementary record


Kindly take note that for this trimester (Trimester 3, 2008/2009), the Supplemenatry Examination will be held as usual i.e. on the first week of next trimester.

REVISION OF GRADE

Assalamualaikum & Good day

To our valued students,

The Senate in its meeting no. 134 agreed to add/revise the following grades in undergraduate evaluation:

Grade Mark Grade Point
C- 47 - <50 1.67
D+ 44 - <47 1.33
D 40 - <44 1.00
F 0 - <40 0.00

Grade D and above are considered a pass for subjects, although graduating CGPA is still 2.0. Students must also obtain sufficient credit hours to graduate from their course.

This new grading system will take effect starting Trimester 1, 2009/2010 onwards.

The Senate also decided the following:

a) For all subjects in professional programmes (Engineering, Accounting and Law) with the exception of co-curriculum, C will be the passing grade

b) For FOSEE\'s IELP programme, C will be the passing grade.

c) For all other subjects in FOSEE\'s programmes, D will be the passing grade

楼上两个，如果没错C-*是说你及格，但这个grade也可以拿supp的。但如果你的supp成绩差过C-，你的supp成绩会Overwrite你的final成绩。
你也可以选择不去考supp

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ON EXAMINATION

Dear valued students,

Please be reminded that effective this trimester (Trimester 1, 2009/2010), supplementary examination will be held at the end of Trimester 2, 2009/2010, during the final examination period. Should you wish to repeat the subject all over again, you are required to withdraw the offer of supplementary examination by filling up a form which will be published separately and submit to ERU office by Week 3 – 30th October 2009 (Foundation Programme) and 13th November 2009 (Degree/Diploma Programme).


However, there will be a Special Examination which will be held on the 3rd week of the trimester for the following reasons only:-

1) Graduating students (inclusive of Foundation to Beta) who fail or absent for two subjects or less after the main examination
2) Intensive English Language students who submit valid MCs or other reason(s) acceptable by the faculty’s Board of Examiners (BOE).


Graduating students (inclusive of Foundation to Beta) are required to appeal to sit for special examination which will be held on Week 3 of the trimester. Please fill up a form and completed form must be submitted to ERU Office latest by 16th October 2009 (for foundation) and 30th October 2009 (for degree/diploma). Any late appeal will not be entertained.

For Degree/Diploma programme, students who are eligible to sit for Supplementary Examination which will be scheduled at the end of Trimester 2, 2009/2010, the examination shall start at the end of Week 8 (including Saturday & Sunday) and may be extended until the trimester break. Students may also have examination in evening sessions (8.00 pm – 10.00 pm).

Due to the increase in the number of subjects involved in final/supplementary examination, the intensity checking may be sacrificed to ensure the sufficient slots for examination.


Students with below grade C (C-, D+ and D) shall be eligible to sit for supplementary examination (upon the recommendation of the BOE and endorsement of Senate) and the highest grade is C. However, the supplementary grade will appear in Trimester 2, 2009/2010 result while Trimester 1, 2009/2010 result remains and deemed as valid.


Students who decide to sit for Supplementary Examination, the recent supplementary result will overwrite the final examination result even though it is worse. For example, after final examination, student get C-* which is eligible to sit for supplementary examination. After supplementary examination, student Fail the subject with F grade. The F grade will overwrite the C- grade obtained earlier.


For IELP Programme, kindly take note on the following rules:-

1. If a student fails final examination, s/he must register the subject again.
2. If a student does not have valid MC as decided by the BOE, s/he will get an "F" and must register the subject again.
3. If a student has valid MC as decided by BOE, s/he will sit for Special Examination. If s/he fails Special Exam, s/he will be allowed to register again but subject to his/her attendance for classes. If s/he has yet another MC (valid or not valid) during Special Examination, s/he will also get an "F" and hence must register the subject again.

其实很复杂下，建议你们自己读那些Bulletin，不懂的话问eru为上策

我`是`diploma学生。
如果英语拿到D*，而其他全部拿到A，那我的英语要不要拿过啊？
我有去问ERU,他叫我去问我的faculties。
我去问了，他讲可以不不必拿，可是他讲不懂会不会换制度。
那如果我不拿英语，会不会影响我毕业啊？
