Superbikers have a ‘wild’ time at Juru Autocity                                                                                                                                
Atotalof 746 bikers from Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia “vroomed”their wayinto Penang island on their superbikes for a good causeduring theThree-Nation Charity Ride 2009.
Organised bythePenang Motor Sports Club, the two-day event saw the superbikersgoing“wild” as they gathered at the Autocity here before “invading”theisland yesterday.
Among them were Singaporean Tengku Abdul Rahman, his wife, Maisarah and their 21-year-old son Tengku Zul Naim.
The couple and their son rode into Malaysia on a Suzuki GSX-R 1300 and a Honda CB400 respectively.

Masirah,45,said her husband had been “crazy” about superbikes for the past 30yearsago and their son had obviously caught his “bug” as theirmachines arenow their first loves.
As for GreekChristosGiakou-matos, 44, who works at a shipping company in Singapore,theride helped him kill two birds with one stone as he will be helpingtheless fortunate and also escape from work for a while.
“Ridingsuperbikesis more of a passion rather than transpor-tation. This iswhere I onlyfocus on the speed and distance, putting away my problemsand work.”
StateYouth, Sports, Women, Family and CommunityDevelop- ment Committeechairman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi, who flagged offthe event, said RM12,000were divided among the Sinar Ceria CharityHome, Penang Bahnhof YouthCentre, Seri Cahaya Charity Home and ACSStepping Stone Work Centre.“These are the proceeds from theparticipation fees after deducting thecosts.”
Earlier, childrenfrom Sinar CeriaCharity Home and Penang Bahnhof Youth Centre weretreated to pizza andgoodies bags. They also were also taken for ashort ride around theAutocity area by some of the bikers.
Eight-year-oldM.Shankar, who had the opportunity to ride on property agent DylanBooChun Boon’s superbike, said it was an experience he would neverforget.
“Usually I only see them riding the superbikes from afar but never had the chance to look at it closely, what more riding on it.
“I will work hard to earn a lot of money when I grow up so that I can buy one for myself,” he said.
