A345 All Business Class

     

Singapore Airlines redefines long-haul air travel with daily all Business Class service to New York (Newark) and Los Angeles. Launched in mid 2008, the A340-500 is fitted with 100 of the Airline's new award winning Business Class seats.

Each seat measures 30 inches (76 cm) in width and provides customers with more personal space and privacy. Arranged in a forward facing, 1-2-1, layout, with every seat having direct access to the aisle.  When it is time to sleep, the new Business Class seat converts into a fully flat bed.

Customers can also entertain themselves with their personal audio and video content from their iPod or iPhone on KrisWorld or plug in their USB thumb drives and view holiday snapshots with Photo Viewer or watch videos on Media Player on the 15.4-inch widescreen LCD monitor.

Compulsory leave for all, pay freeze for managers at SIA

SINGAPORE,April 2 — More than 1,400 Singapore Airlines staff have volunteered totake no-pay leave, but this will not be enough to help the airlinethrough the current slump.

It has thus been forced to takefurther steps: compulsory leave of up to one day a month for all, and awage freeze for management staff in the current financial year, whichends next March.

The airline said yesterday that seniormanagement are already on the shorter-work-month scheme. Managers willgo on it from May 1.

In-principle agreement has also beenreached with two of the airline's key unions, the Singapore AirlinesStaff Union and the Airline Executive Staff Union, for other groundworkers and cabin crew to be put on the scheme, possibly from May 1 aswell. Discussions are still on with the pilots' union, SIA said.

Afew weeks ago, SIA told its more than 14,000 employees thatapplications were open for no-pay leave — for anything from one week totwo years.

Staff had until March 31 to decide.

Airlinespokesman Stephen Forshaw told The Straits Times that the majority ofthose who took up the offer were cabin crew, and for periods of lessthan a month.

But even with all these measures in place, theairline said in its statement that it cannot rule out further steps tocontain costs if the economic downturn results in a worsening travelslump.

The measures taken so far are necessary because of plansto cut capacity, measured in terms of the number of seats available andtotal distance flown, by 11 per cent over the next 12 months.

SIA will also take 17 aircraft from its fleet of just over 100 planes out of service for at least a year.

AlanTan, president of the SIA Staff Union, which represents cabin crew andother rank-and-file staff, told The Straits Times that the leave schemefor cabin crew and ground staff will differ.

For ground workers, the compulsory day of leave per month can be no-pay leave, or from their paid annual leave.

Forcabin crew, it will be one day of no-pay leave every four months. Forrostering purposes and other operational reasons, they cannot take thecompulsory leave out of their annual vacations.

Captain P.James, president of the Air Line Pilots Association-Singapore, said theunion will continue to engage management. Both sides are meeting today.— Straits Times

选坐上层不用大排长龙及等待（排队）也还是有好处的，前面的business位很少人坐的。始终是一个广告。
