There are four forces in the universe, as physicists currently know: electromagnetism, weak force, strong force, gravitational force. Someone (not sure who) had already formulated the Standard Model, which pretty much describes the origin of the first three forces. It says that these three forces are one and the same in the first 10^-18 or less second after the Big Bang, IF the theory is correct. However, the Standard Model is already challenged by CP violation, dark energy, etc. So it's not a complete theory. Furthermore, gravitational force is not incorporated. So, no Grand Unified Theory for you just yet. |

hmm... since neutrinos (all three of them) are included in the Standard Model, one would say these properties (i.e. their masses) are compatible with the theory, because I think (personal opinion really!) Standard Model is still a valid theorem today. But, I just checked on Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutrino, like you said, Standard Model proposes zero-mass neutrinos. So you're right! And I was surprise to find out that the mass of neutrino was only discovered in 1999. I thought it was discovered earlier. Anyway, this is going too deep for me. And thanks for the correction. |
