American tattoo artist Jake Sawyer (Jason Behr) explores and exploitsethnic designs from around the world. At a tattoo expo in Singapore, heglimpses the exotic world of traditional Samoan tatau in the work ofthe fiercely proud Alipati (Robbie Magasiva). Fatefully, Jake isattracted to Alipati’s beautiful cousin, Sina (Mia Blake).
When Jake impulsively steals an ancient Samoan tattooing tool, he
unwittingly unleashes a powerful angry spirit. Suddenly, his art takeson a frightening new dimension, exposing everyone he touches, includingthe feisty Singaporean Victoria (Caroline Cheong), to mortal peril.
Sensing the solution can only lie with the Samoans, Jake follows themto Auckland, where he runs into an old adversary, tattoo artist Crash(Michael Hurst) and a new one, the respected Samoan elder Aleki Va’a(David Fane).
His investigation takes him on a devastating journey into the darkheart of Pacific mysticism. There, Jake must recover his own soul if heis to save the woman he loves and escape with his life.
THE TATTOOIST is a supernatural thriller, made by Singaporean and New Zealand co-production partners.The story centres on Samoan spiritual beliefs, in which the barrierbetween our world and the spirit world is very thin, leading events inone to have serious and chilling repercussions in the other.
Jason Behr (The Grudge, Roswell) is set to explode back onto the big screen in supernatural thriller The Tattooist, which opens around New Zealand on 30th August 2007. The chillingly tense cross-cultural movie was filmed in Auckland and Singapore last year and stars Behr as a tattoo artist who unwittingly unleashes a deadly spirit, then faces a life-or-death battle to stop its evil killing spree.

Hollywood star Jason Behr (The Grudge, Roswell) has been calling Auckland home while he’s in New Zealand filming supernatural thriller The Tattooist – due to be released in 2007.
Behr stars as Jake Sawyer, an American tattoo artist who unwittingly releases a deadly spirit when he steals from a traditional Samoan tattooist(Robbie Magasiva, Sione’s Wedding, Stickmen). As love blossoms between Jake and Samoan beauty Sina (Mia Blake, No 2), the evil he has unleashed takes hold – and the body count rises steadily. Will Jake be able to stop the curse, or is it already too late?
The Tattooist also stars David Fane (Sione’s Wedding), Caroline Cheong (Light Years), Nathaniel Lees (The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions) and Michael Hurst (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: WarriorPrincess).
